حَدَّثَنَا مُوسَی بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْوَاحِدِ عَنْ الْأَعْمَشِ عَنْ أَبِي وَائِلٍ عَنْ ابْنِ مَسْعُودٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ عَنْ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ مَنْ حَلَفَ عَلَی يَمِينٍ لِيَقْتَطِعَ بِهَا مَالًا لَقِيَ اللَّهَ وَهُوَ عَلَيْهِ غَضْبَانُ

Narrated Ibn Mas`ud: The Prophet said, "Whoever takes a (false) oath in order to grab (others) property, then Allah will be angry with him when he will meet Him."

حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ نَصْرٍ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ أَخْبَرَنَا مَعْمَرٌ عَنْ هَمَّامٍ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَرَضَ عَلَی قَوْمٍ الْيَمِينَ فَأَسْرَعُوا فَأَمَرَ أَنْ يُسْهَمَ بَيْنَهُمْ فِي الْيَمِينِ أَيُّهُمْ يَحْلِفُ

Narrated Abu Huraira: The Prophet asked some people to take an oath, and they hurried for it. The Prophet ordered that lots should be drawn amongst them as to who would take an oath first.

حَدَّثَنِي إِسْحَاقُ أَخْبَرَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ هَارُونَ أَخْبَرَنَا الْعَوَّامُ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي إِبْرَاهِيمُ أَبُو إِسْمَاعِيلَ السَّکْسَکِيُّ سَمِعَ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ أَبِي أَوْفَی رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا يَقُولُ أَقَامَ رَجُلٌ سِلْعَتَهُ فَحَلَفَ بِاللَّهِ لَقَدْ أَعْطَی بِهَا مَا لَمْ يُعْطِهَا فَنَزَلَتْ إِنَّ الَّذِينَ يَشْتَرُونَ بِعَهْدِ اللَّهِ وَأَيْمَانِهِمْ ثَمَنًا قَلِيلًا وَقَالَ ابْنُ أَبِي أَوْفَی النَّاجِشُ آکِلُ رِبًا خَائِنٌ

Narrated `Abdullah bin Abu `Aufa: A man displayed some goods in the market and took a false oath that he had been offered so much for them though he was not offered that amount Then the following Divine Verse was revealed:-- "Verily! Those who purchase a little gain at the cost of Allah's covenant and their oaths . . . Will get painful punishment." (3.77) Ibn Abu `Aufa added, "Such person as described above is a treacherous Riba eater (i.e. eater of usury).

Narrated Abu Wail from `Abdullah: The Prophet said, "Whoever takes a false oath in order to grab another man's (or his brother's) property, then Allah will be angry with him when he will meet him." Then Allah confirmed this by revealing the Divine Verse: "Verily! Those who purchase a little gain at the cost of Allah's Covenant and their oaths . . . Will get painful punishment." (3.77) Al-Ash'ath met me and asked, "What did `Abdullah tell you today?" I said, "So and so." He said, "The Verse was revealed regarding my case."

حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي مَالِکٌ عَنْ عَمِّهِ أَبِي سُهَيْلِ بْنِ مَالِکٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ طَلْحَةَ بْنَ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ يَقُولُ جَائَ رَجُلٌ إِلَی رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَإِذَا هُوَ يَسْأَلُهُ عَنْ الْإِسْلَامِ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ خَمْسُ صَلَوَاتٍ فِي الْيَوْمِ وَاللَّيْلَةِ فَقَالَ هَلْ عَلَيَّ غَيْرُهَا قَالَ لَا إِلَّا أَنْ تَطَّوَّعَ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَصِيَامُ شَهْرِ رَمَضَانَ قَالَ هَلْ عَلَيَّ غَيْرُهُ قَالَ لَا إِلَّا أَنْ تَطَّوَّعَ قَالَ وَذَکَرَ لَهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ الزَّکَاةَ قَالَ هَلْ عَلَيَّ غَيْرُهَا قَالَ لَا إِلَّا أَنْ تَطَّوَّعَ فَأَدْبَرَ الرَّجُلُ وَهُوَ يَقُولُ وَاللَّهِ لَا أَزِيدُ عَلَی هَذَا وَلَا أَنْقُصُ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَفْلَحَ إِنْ صَدَقَ

Narrated Talha bin 'Ubaidullah: A man came to Allah's Apostle asking him about Islam, Allah's Apostle said, "You have to offer five compulsory prayers in a day and a night (24 hours)." The man asked, "Is there any more compulsory prayers for me?" Allah's Apostle said, "No, unless you like to offer Nawafil (i.e. optional prayers)." Allah's Apostle then added, "You have to observe fasts during the month of Ramadan." The man said, "Am I to fast any other days?' Allah's Apostle said, "No, unless you wish to observe the optional fast voluntarily." Then Allah's Apostle told him about the compulsory Zakat. The man asked, "Do I have to give anything besides?" Allah's Apostle said, "No, unless you wish to give in charity voluntarily." So, the man departed saying, "By Allah I will neither do more nor less than that." Allah's Apostle said, "If he has said the truth he will be successful."

وَاللَّهِ لَا أَزِيدُ عَلَی هَذَا وَلَا أَنْقُصُ ← لَا إِلَّا أَنْ تَطَّوَّعَ فَأَدْبَرَ الرَّجُلُ وَهُوَ ← هل عليّ غيرها؟ ← لَهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ الزَّکَاةَ ← "لَا إِلَّا أَنْ تَطَوَّعَ". ← هَلْ عَلَيَّ غَيْرهُ؟ ← رَسُولُ اللَّهِ وَصِيَامُ شَهْرِ رَمَضَانَ ← "لَا إِلَّا أَنْ تَطَوَّعَ". ← هل عليّ غيرها؟ ← رَسُولُ اللَّهِ خَمْسُ صَلَوَاتٍ فِي الْيَوْمِ وَاللَّيْلَةِ ← الْإِسْلَامِ، ← جَائَ رَجُلٌ إِلَی رَسُولِ اللَّهِ فَإِذَا هُوَ يَسْأَلُهُ ← طَلْحَۃَ بْنَ عُبَیْدِ اللہِ ← أَبِيهِ أَنَّهُ ← عَمِّهِ أَبِي سُهَيْلِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ، ← مَالِكٍ، ← إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ،

حَدَّثَنَا مُوسَی بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ حَدَّثَنَا جُوَيْرِيَةُ قَالَ ذَکَرَ نَافِعٌ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ مَنْ کَانَ حَالِفًا فَلْيَحْلِفْ بِاللَّهِ أَوْ لِيَصْمُتْ

Narrated `Abdullah: The Prophet said, "Whoever has to take an oath should swear by Allah or remain silent." (i.e. He should not swear by other than Allah.)

حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مَسْلَمَةَ عَنْ مَالِکٍ عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ عُرْوَةَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ زَيْنَبَ عَنْ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهَا أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ إِنَّکُمْ تَخْتَصِمُونَ إِلَيَّ وَلَعَلَّ بَعْضَکُمْ أَلْحَنُ بِحُجَّتِهِ مِنْ بَعْضٍ فَمَنْ قَضَيْتُ لَهُ بِحَقِّ أَخِيهِ شَيْئًا بِقَوْلِهِ فَإِنَّمَا أَقْطَعُ لَهُ قِطْعَةً مِنْ النَّارِ فَلَا يَأْخُذْهَا

Narrated Um Salama: Once Allah's Apostle said, "You people present your cases to me and some of you may be more eloquent and persuasive in presenting their argument. So, if I give some one's right to another (wrongly) because of the latter's (tricky) presentation of the case, I am really giving him a piece of fire; so he should not take it."

حَدَّثَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ حَمْزَةَ حَدَّثَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ سَعْدٍ عَنْ صَالِحٍ عَنْ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ أَنَّ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ عَبَّاسٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا أَخْبَرَهُ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنِي أَبُو سُفْيَانَ أَنَّ هِرَقْلَ قَالَ لَهُ سَأَلْتُکَ مَاذَا يَأْمُرُکُمْ فَزَعَمْتَ أَنَّهُ أَمَرَکُمْ بِالصَّلَاةِ وَالصِّدْقِ وَالْعَفَافِ وَالْوَفَائِ بِالْعَهْدِ وَأَدَائِ الْأَمَانَةِ قَالَ وَهَذِهِ صِفَةُ نَبِيٍّ

Narrated `Abdullah bin `Abbas: Abu Sufyan told me that Heraclius said to him, "When I inquired you what he (i.e. Muhammad) ordered you, you replied that he ordered you to establish the prayer, to speak the truth, to be chaste, to keep promises and to pay back trusts." Then Heraclius added, "These are really the qualities of a prophet."

Narrated Abu Huraira: Allah's Apostle said, "The signs of a hypocrite are three: (1) whenever he speaks, he tells a lie, (2) whenever he is entrusted, he proves to be dishonest, (3) whenever he promises, he breaks his promise.

حَدَّثَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ مُوسَی أَخْبَرَنَا هِشَامٌ عَنْ ابْنِ جُرَيْجٍ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنِي عَمْرُو بْنُ دِينَارٍ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَلِيٍّ عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمْ قَالَ لَمَّا مَاتَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ جَائَ أَبَا بَکْرٍ مَالٌ مِنْ قِبَلِ الْعَلَائِ بْنِ الْحَضْرَمِيِّ فَقَالَ أَبُو بَکْرٍ مَنْ کَانَ لَهُ عَلَی النَّبِيِّ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ دَيْنٌ أَوْ کَانَتْ لَهُ قِبَلَهُ عِدَةٌ فَلْيَأْتِنَا قَالَ جَابِرٌ فَقُلْتُ وَعَدَنِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنْ يُعْطِيَنِي هَکَذَا وَهَکَذَا وَهَکَذَا فَبَسَطَ يَدَيْهِ ثَلَاثَ مَرَّاتٍ قَالَ جَابِرٌ فَعَدَّ فِي يَدِي خَمْسَ مِائَةٍ ثُمَّ خَمْسَ مِائَةٍ ثُمَّ خَمْسَ مِائَةٍ

Narrated Muhammad bin `Ali: Jabir bin `Abdullah said, "When the Prophet died, Abu Bakr received some property from Al-`Ala bin Al-Hadrami. Abu Bakr said to the people, "Whoever has a money claim on the Prophet, or was promised something by him, should come to us (so that we may pay him his right)." Jabir added, "I said (to Abu Bakr), Allah's Apostle promised me that he would give me this much, and this much, and this much (spreading his hands three times)." Jabir added, "Abu Bakr counted for me and handed me five-hundred (gold pieces), and then five-hundred, and then five-hundred."

حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحِيمِ أَخْبَرَنَا سَعِيدُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ حَدَّثَنَا مَرْوَانُ بْنُ شُجَاعٍ عَنْ سَالِمٍ الْأَفْطَسِ عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ قَالَ سَأَلَنِي يَهُودِيٌّ مِنْ أَهْلِ الْحِيرَةِ أَيَّ الْأَجَلَيْنِ قَضَی مُوسَی قُلْتُ لَا أَدْرِي حَتَّی أَقْدَمَ عَلَی حَبْرِ الْعَرَبِ فَأَسْأَلَهُ فَقَدِمْتُ فَسَأَلْتُ ابْنَ عَبَّاسٍ فَقَالَ قَضَی أَکْثَرَهُمَا وَأَطْيَبَهُمَا إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِذَا قَالَ فَعَلَ

Narrated Sa`id bin Jubair: A Jew from Hira asked me which one of the two periods Musa (i.e. Prophet Moses) completed. I said, "I don't know, (but wait) till I see the most learned 'Arab and inquire him about it." So, I went to Ibn `Abbas and asked him. He replied, "Moses completed the longer and better period." Ibn `Abbas added, "No doubt, an apostle of Allah always does what he says."
