حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ کَثِيرٍ عَنْ سُفْيَانَ حَدَّثَنَا مَنْصُورٌ وَالْأَعْمَشُ عَنْ أَبِي الضُّحَی عَنْ مَسْرُوقٍ قَالَ أَتَيْتُ ابْنَ مَسْعُودٍ فَقَالَ إِنَّ قُرَيْشًا أَبْطَئُوا عَنْ الْإِسْلَامِ فَدَعَا عَلَيْهِمْ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَأَخَذَتْهُمْ سَنَةٌ حَتَّی هَلَکُوا فِيهَا وَأَکَلُوا الْمَيْتَةَ وَالْعِظَامَ فَجَائَهُ أَبُو سُفْيَانَ فَقَالَ يَا مُحَمَّدُ جِئْتَ تَأْمُرُ بِصِلَةِ الرَّحِمِ وَإِنَّ قَوْمَکَ هَلَکُوا فَادْعُ اللَّهَ فَقَرَأَ فَارْتَقِبْ يَوْمَ تَأْتِي السَّمَائُ بِدُخَانٍ مُبِينٍ ثُمَّ عَادُوا إِلَی کُفْرِهِمْ فَذَلِکَ قَوْلُهُ تَعَالَی يَوْمَ نَبْطِشُ الْبَطْشَةَ الْکُبْرَی إِنَّا مُنْتَقِمُونَ يَوْمَ بَدْرٍ قَالَ أَبُو عَبْد اللَّهِ وَزَادَ أَسْبَاطٌ عَنْ مَنْصُورٍ فَدَعَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَسُقُوا الْغَيْثَ فَأَطْبَقَتْ عَلَيْهِمْ سَبْعًا وَشَکَا النَّاسُ کَثْرَةَ الْمَطَرِ قَالَ اللَّهُمَّ حَوَالَيْنَا وَلَا عَلَيْنَا فَانْحَدَرَتْ السَّحَابَةُ عَنْ رَأْسِهِ فَسُقُوا النَّاسُ حَوْلَهُمْ

Narrated Masruq: One day I went to Ibn Mas`ud who said, "When Quraish delayed in embracing Islam, the Prophet I invoked Allah to curse them, so they were afflicted with a (famine) year because of which many of them died and they ate the carcasses and Abu Sufyan came to the Prophet and said, 'O Muhammad! You came to order people to keep good relation with kith and kin and your nation is being destroyed, so invoke Allah I ? So the Prophet I recited the Holy verses of Sirat-Ad-Dukhan: 'Then watch you For the day that The sky will Bring forth a kind Of smoke Plainly visible.' (44.10) When the famine was taken off, the people renegade once again as nonbelievers. The statement of Allah, (in Sura "Ad- Dukhan"-44) refers to that: 'On the day when We shall seize You with a mighty grasp.' (44.16) And that was what happened on the day of the battle of Badr." Asbath added on the authority of Mansur, "Allah's Apostle prayed for them and it rained heavily for seven days. So the people complained of the excessive rain. The Prophet said, 'O Allah! (Let it rain) around us and not on us.' So the clouds dispersed over his head and it rained over the surroundings."

أَتَيْتُ ابْنَ مَسْعُودٍ ← مَسْرُوقٍ ← أَبِي الضُّحَى، ← مَنْصُورٍ، وَالْأَعْمَشُ، ← سُفْيَانَ، ← مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ كَثِيرٍ،

حَدَّثَني مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَبِي بَکْرٍ حَدَّثَنَا مُعْتَمِرٌ عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ عَنْ ثَابِتٍ عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِکٍ قَالَ کَانَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَخْطُبُ يَوْمَ جُمُعَةٍ فَقَامَ النَّاسُ فَصَاحُوا فَقَالُوا يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ قَحَطَ الْمَطَرُ وَاحْمَرَّتْ الشَّجَرُ وَهَلَکَتْ الْبَهَائِمُ فَادْعُ اللَّهَ يَسْقِينَا فَقَالَ اللَّهُمَّ اسْقِنَا مَرَّتَيْنِ وَايْمُ اللَّهِ مَا نَرَی فِي السَّمَائِ قَزَعَةً مِنْ سَحَابٍ فَنَشَأَتْ سَحَابَةٌ وَأَمْطَرَتْ وَنَزَلَ عَنْ الْمِنْبَرِ فَصَلَّی فَلَمَّا انْصَرَفَ لَمْ تَزَلْ تُمْطِرُ إِلَی الْجُمُعَةِ الَّتِي تَلِيهَا فَلَمَّا قَامَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَخْطُبُ صَاحُوا إِلَيْهِ تَهَدَّمَتْ الْبُيُوتُ وَانْقَطَعَتْ السُّبُلُ فَادْعُ اللَّهَ يَحْبِسْهَا عَنَّا فَتَبَسَّمَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ثُمَّ قَالَ اللَّهُمَّ حَوَالَيْنَا وَلَا عَلَيْنَا فَکَشَطَتْ الْمَدِينَةُ فَجَعَلَتْ تَمْطُرُ حَوْلَهَا وَلَا تَمْطُرُ بِالْمَدِينَةِ قَطْرَةٌ فَنَظَرْتُ إِلَی الْمَدِينَةِ وَإِنَّهَا لَفِي مِثْلِ الْإِکْلِيلِ

Narrated Anas: Allah's Apostle I was delivering the Khutba (sermon) on a Friday when the people stood up, shouted and said, "O Allah's Apostle! There is no rain (drought), the trees have dried and the livestock are destroyed; Please pray to Allah for rain." So Allah's Apostle said twice, "O Allah! Bless us with rain." By Allah, there was no trace of cloud in the sky and suddenly the sky became overcast with clouds and it started raining. The Prophet came down the pulpit and offered the prayer. When he came back from the prayer (to his house) it was raining and it rained continuously till the next Friday. When the Prophet started delivering the Friday Khutba (sermon), the people started shouting and said to him, "The houses have collapsed and the roads are cut off; so please pray to Allah to withhold the rain." So the Prophet smiled and said, "O Allah! Round about us and not on us." So the sky became clear over Medina but it kept on raining over the outskirts (of Medina) and not a single drop of rain fell over Median. I looked towards the sky which was as bright and clear as a crown.

کَانَ النَّبِيُّ يَخْطُبُ يَوْمَ جُمُعَةٍ فَقَامَ النَّاسُ فَصَاحُوا فَقَالُوا ← اَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِکٍ، ← ثَابِتٍ، ← عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ ← مُعْتَمِرٌ ← مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَبِي بَكْرٍ،

وَقَالَ لَنَا أَبُو نُعَيْمٍ عَنْ زُهَيْرٍ عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ خَرَجَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ يَزِيدَ الْأَنْصَارِيُّ وَخَرَجَ مَعَهُ الْبَرَائُ بْنُ عَازِبٍ وَزَيْدُ بْنُ أَرْقَمَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمْ فَاسْتَسْقَی فَقَامَ بِهِمْ عَلَی رِجْلَيْهِ عَلَی غَيْرِ مِنْبَرٍ فَاسْتَغْفَرَ ثُمَّ صَلَّی رَکْعَتَيْنِ يَجْهَرُ بِالْقِرَائَةِ وَلَمْ يُؤَذِّنْ وَلَمْ يُقِمْ قَالَ أَبُو إِسْحَاقَ وَرَأَی عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ يَزِيدَ الْأَنْصَارِيُّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ

Narrated 'Abdullah bin Yazid Al-Ansari that he went out with Al-Bara' bin 'Azib, and Zaid bin Arqam and invoked for rain. He ('Abdullah bin Yazid) stood up but not on a pulpit and invoked Allah for rain and then offered two Rak'a prayers with loud recitation without pronouncing Adhan or Iqama. Abu Ishaq said that 'Adbullah bin Yazid had seen the Prophet (saws) (doing the same)

حَدَّثَنَاأَبُو الْيَمَانِ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا شُعَيْبٌ عَنْ الزُّهْرِيِّ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي عَبَّادُ بْنُ تَمِيمٍ أَنَّ عَمَّهُ وَکَانَ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَخْبَرَهُ أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ خَرَجَ بِالنَّاسِ يَسْتَسْقِي لَهُمْ فَقَامَ فَدَعَا اللَّهَ قَائِمًا ثُمَّ تَوَجَّهَ قِبَلَ الْقِبْلَةِ وَحَوَّلَ رِدَائَهُ فَأُسْقُوا

Narrated `Abbas bin Tamim: that his uncle (who was one of the companions of the Prophet) had told him, "The Prophet went out with the people to invoke Allah for rain for them. He stood up and invoked Allah for rain, then faced the Qibla and turned his cloak (inside out) and it rained."

عَبَّادُ بْنُ تَمِيمٍ أَنَّ عَمَّهُ وَکَانَ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ النَّبِيِّ ← الزُّهْرِيِّ، ← شُعَيْبٌ، ← حَدَّثَنَاأَبُو الْيَمَانِ

حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو نُعَيْمٍ حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ أَبِي ذِئْبٍ عَنْ الزُّهْرِيِّ عَنْ عَبَّادِ بْنِ تَمِيمٍ عَنْ عَمِّهِ قَالَ خَرَجَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَسْتَسْقِي فَتَوَجَّهَ إِلَی الْقِبْلَةِ يَدْعُو وَحَوَّلَ رِدَائَهُ ثُمَّ صَلَّی رَکْعَتَيْنِ جَهَرَ فِيهِمَا بِالْقِرَائَةِ

Narrated `Abbas bin Tamim: from his uncle who said, "The Prophet went out to invoke Allah for rain. He faced the Qibla invoking Allah. He turned over his cloak (inside out) and then offered two rak`at and recited the Qur'an aloud in them."

عَمِّہٖ ← عَبَّادِ بْنِ تَمِيمٍ ← الزُّهْرِيِّ، ← ابْنِ أَبِي ذِئْبٍ ← أَبُو نُعَيْمٍ،

حَدَّثَنَا آدَمُ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ أَبِي ذِئْبٍ عَنْ الزُّهْرِيِّ عَنْ عَبَّادِ بْنِ تَمِيمٍ عَنْ عَمِّهِ قَالَ رَأَيْتُ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَوْمَ خَرَجَ يَسْتَسْقِي قَالَ فَحَوَّلَ إِلَی النَّاسِ ظَهْرَهُ وَاسْتَقْبَلَ الْقِبْلَةَ يَدْعُو ثُمَّ حَوَّلَ رِدَائَهُ ثُمَّ صَلَّی لَنَا رَکْعَتَيْنِ جَهَرَ فِيهِمَا بِالْقِرَائَةِ

Narrated `Abbas bin Tamim from his uncle: "I saw the Prophet on the day when he went out to offer the Istisqa' prayer. He turned his back towards the people and faced the Qibla and asked Allah for rain. Then he turned his cloak inside out and led us in a two rak`at prayer and recited the Qur'an aloud in them."

رَأَيْتُ النَّبِيَّ يَوْمَ خَرَجَ يَسْتَسْقِي ← عَمِّہٖ ← عَبَّادِ بْنِ تَمِيمٍ ← الزُّهْرِيِّ، ← ابْنِ أَبِي ذِئْبٍ ← آدَمُ،

حَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي بَکْرٍ سَمِعَ عَبَّادَ بْنَ تَمِيمٍ عَنْ عَمِّهِ أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ اسْتَسْقَی فَصَلَّی رَکْعَتَيْنِ وَقَلَبَ رِدَائَهُ

Narrated `Abbas bin Tamim from his uncle who said: "The Prophet invoked Allah for rain and offered a two rak`at prayer and he put his cloak inside out."

عَمِّہٖ ← عَبَّادِ بْنِ تَمِيمٍ ← عَبْدُ اللہِ بْنُ اَبِیْ بَکْرِ ← سُفْيَانَ، ← قُتَيْبَةُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ

حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي بَکْرٍ سَمِعَ عَبَّادَ بْنَ تَمِيمٍ عَنْ عَمِّهِ قَالَ خَرَجَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِلَی الْمُصَلَّی يَسْتَسْقِي وَاسْتَقْبَلَ الْقِبْلَةَ فَصَلَّی رَکْعَتَيْنِ وَقَلَبَ رِدَائَهُ قَالَ سُفْيَانُ فَأَخْبَرَنِي المَسْعُودِيُّ عَنْ أَبِي بَکْرٍ قَالَ جَعَلَ الْيَمِينَ عَلَی الشِّمَالِ

Narrated `Abbas bin Tamim from his uncle who said: "The Prophet went out to the Musalla to offer the Istisqa' prayer, faced the Qibla and offered a tworak` at prayer and turned his cloak inside out." Narrated Abu Bakr, "The Prophet put the right side of his cloak on his left side."

جَعَلَ الْيَمِينَ عَلَی الشِّمَالِ ← أَبِي بَكْرٍ، ← سُفْيَانُ فَأَخْبَرَنِي المَسْعُودِيُّ ← خَرَجَ النَّبِيُّ إِلَی الْمُصَلَّی يَسْتَسْقِي وَاسْتَقْبَلَ الْقِبْلَةَ فَصَلَّی رَکْعَتَيْنِ وَقَلَبَ رِدَائَهُ ← عَمِّہٖ ← عَبَّادِ بْنِ تَمِيمٍ ← عَبْدُ اللہِ بْنُ اَبِیْ بَکْرِ ← سُفْيَانَ، ← عَبْدُ اللہِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ،

حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ الْوَهَّابِ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَی بْنُ سَعِيدٍ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنِي أَبُو بَکْرِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ أَنَّ عَبَّادَ بْنَ تَمِيمٍ أَخْبَرَهُ أَنَّ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ زَيْدٍ الْأَنْصَارِيَّ أَخْبَرَهُ أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ خَرَجَ إِلَی الْمُصَلَّی يُصَلِّي وَأَنَّهُ لَمَّا دَعَا أَوْ أَرَادَ أَنْ يَدْعُوَ اسْتَقْبَلَ الْقِبْلَةَ وَحَوَّلَ رِدَائَهُ قَالَ أَبُو عَبْد اللَّهِ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ زَيْدٍ هَذَا مَازِنِيٌّ وَالْأَوَّلُ کُوفِيٌّ هُوَ ابْنُ يَزِيدَ

Narrated `Abdullah bin Zaid Al-Ansari: The Prophet went out towards the Musalla in order to offer the Istisqa' prayer and when he intended to invoke (Allah) or started invoking, he faced the Qibla and turned his cloak inside out.

أَنَّ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ زَيْدٍ الْأَنْصَارِيَّ ← أَبُو بَکْرِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ أَنَّ عَبَّادَ بْنَ تَمِيمٍ ← يَحْيَی بْنُ سَعِيدٍ ← عَبْدُ الْوَهَّابِ، ← مُحَمَّدٍ

قَالَ أَيُّوبُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ:‏‏‏‏ حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي أُوَيْسٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ سُلَيْمَانَ بْنِ بِلَالٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ يَحْيَى بْنُ سَعِيدٍ:‏‏‏‏ سَمِعْتُ أَنَسَ بْنَ مَالِكٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ أَتَى رَجُلٌ أَعْرَابِيٌّ مِنْ أَهْلِ الْبَدْوِ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَوْمَ الْجُمُعَةِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقَالَ:‏‏‏‏ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ هَلَكَتِ الْمَاشِيَةُ هَلَكَ الْعِيَالُ هَلَكَ النَّاسُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَرَفَعَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَدَيْهِ يَدْعُو، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَرَفَعَ النَّاسُ أَيْدِيَهُمْ مَعَهُ يَدْعُونَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ فَمَا خَرَجْنَا مِنَ الْمَسْجِدِ حَتَّى مُطِرْنَا فَمَا زِلْنَا نُمْطَرُ حَتَّى كَانَتِ الْجُمُعَةُ الْأُخْرَى، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَأَتَى الرَّجُلُ إِلَى نَبِيِّ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ:‏‏‏‏ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ بَشِقَ الْمُسَافِرُ وَمُنِعَ الطَّرِيقُ.

Narrated Anas bin Malik: A bedouin came to Allah's Messenger (saws) on a Friday and said, "O Allah's Messenger ! The livestock, the offspring, and the people have perished." So, Allah's Messenger (saw) raised both his hands invoking Allah (for rain) and the people too raised their hands with Allah's Messenger (saws) invoking Allah (for rain). We had not left the mosque when it started raining. It rained till the next Friday when the same man came to Allah's Messenger (saws) and said, "O Allah's Messenger! The travelers are compelled to postpone their journeys (because of excessive rain) and the roads are overflowed."

أَتَى رَجُلٌ أَعْرَابِيٌّ مِنْ أَهْلِ الْبَدْوِ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ يَوْمَ الْجُمُعَةِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقَالَ:‏‏‏‏ ← اَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِکٍ، ← يَحْيَی بْنُ سَعِيدٍ ← سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ بِلَالٍ ← أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي أُوَيْسٍ، ← أَيُّوبُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ

وَقَالَ الْأُوَيْسِيُّ:‏‏‏‏ حَدَّثَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ سَعِيدٍ وَشَرِيكٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏سَمِعَا أَنَسًا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنَّهُ رَفَعَ يَدَيْهِ حَتَّى رَأَيْتُ بَيَاضَ إِبْطَيْهِ.

The narrator Anas added that the Prophet (saws) raised his hands (during the invocation) to such an extent that the whiteness of his armpits was visible.

النَّبِيِّ أَنَّهُ رَفَعَ يَدَيْهِ حَتَّى رَأَيْتُ بَيَاضَ إِبْطَيْهِ. ← يَحْيَى بْنِ سَعِيدٍ وَشَرِيكٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏سَمِعَا أَنَسًا، ← مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ ← وَقَالَ الْأُوَيْسِيُّ:‏‏‏‏

حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بَشَّارٍ حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَی وَابْنُ أَبِي عَدِيٍّ عَنْ سَعِيدٍ عَنْ قَتَادَةَ عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِکٍ قَالَ کَانَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لَا يَرْفَعُ يَدَيْهِ فِي شَيْئٍ مِنْ دُعَائِهِ إِلَّا فِي الِاسْتِسْقَائِ وَإِنَّهُ يَرْفَعُ حَتَّی يُرَی بَيَاضُ إِبْطَيْهِ

Narrated Anas bin Malik: The Prophet never raised his hands for any invocation except for that of Istisqa' and he used to raise them so much that the whiteness of his armpits became visible. (Note: It may be that Anas did not see the Prophet raising his hands, but it is narrated that the Prophet used to raise his hands for invocations other than Istisqa. See Hadith No. 807 & 808 and also see Hadith No. 612, Vol. 5).
