jabir b. Abdullah (Allah be pleased with them) reported: I saw Allah's Messenger ( ‌صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ‌ ) walking swiftly from the Black Stone till he completed three circuits up to it.

حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو کَامِلٍ فُضَيْلُ بْنُ حُسَيْنٍ الْجَحْدَرِيُّ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْوَاحِدِ بْنُ زِيَادٍ حَدَّثَنَا الْجُرَيْرِيُّ عَنْ أَبِي الطُّفَيْلِ قَالَ قُلْتُ لِابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ أَرَأَيْتَ هَذَا الرَّمَلَ بِالْبَيْتِ ثَلَاثَةَ أَطْوَافٍ وَمَشْيَ أَرْبَعَةِ أَطْوَافٍ أَسُنَّةٌ هُوَ فَإِنَّ قَوْمَکَ يَزْعُمُونَ أَنَّهُ سُنَّةٌ قَالَ فَقَالَ صَدَقُوا وَکَذَبُوا قَالَ قُلْتُ مَا قَوْلُکَ صَدَقُوا وَکَذَبُوا قَالَ إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَدِمَ مَکَّةَ فَقَالَ الْمُشْرِکُونَ إِنَّ مُحَمَّدًا وَأَصْحَابَهُ لَا يَسْتَطِيعُونَ أَنْ يَطُوفُوا بِالْبَيْتِ مِنْ الْهُزَالِ وَکَانُوا يَحْسُدُونَهُ قَالَ فَأَمَرَهُمْ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنْ يَرْمُلُوا ثَلَاثًا وَيَمْشُوا أَرْبَعًا قَالَ قُلْتُ لَهُ أَخْبِرْنِي عَنْ الطَّوَافِ بَيْنَ الصَّفَا وَالْمَرْوَةِ رَاکِبًا أَسُنَّةٌ هُوَ فَإِنَّ قَوْمَکَ يَزْعُمُونَ أَنَّهُ سُنَّةٌ قَالَ صَدَقُوا وَکَذَبُوا قَالَ قُلْتُ وَمَا قَوْلُکَ صَدَقُوا وَکَذَبُوا قَالَ إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ کَثُرَ عَلَيْهِ النَّاسُ يَقُولُونَ هَذَا مُحَمَّدٌ هَذَا مُحَمَّدٌ حَتَّی خَرَجَ الْعَوَاتِقُ مِنْ الْبُيُوتِ قَالَ وَکَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لَا يُضْرَبُ النَّاسُ بَيْنَ يَدَيْهِ فَلَمَّا کَثُرَ عَلَيْهِ رَکِبَ وَالْمَشْيُ وَالسَّعْيُ أَفْضَلُ

Jabir b. Abdullah (Allah be pleased with them) reported that Allah's Messenger ( ‌صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ‌ ) walked swiftly in three circuitsfrom stone to stone.

و حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّی حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ أَخْبَرَنَا الْجُرَيْرِيُّ بِهَذَا الْإِسْنَادِ نَحْوَهُ غَيْرَ أَنَّهُ قَالَ وَکَانَ أَهْلُ مَکَّةَ قَوْمَ حَسَدٍ وَلَمْ يَقُلْ يَحْسُدُونَهُ

Abu Tufail reported: I said to Ibn `Abbas (Allah be pleased with them): Do you think that walking swiftly round the House in three circuits, and just walking in four circuits is the Sunnah (of the Holy Prophet), for your people say that it is Sunnah? Thereupon he (Ibn `Abbas) said: They have told the truth and the lie (too). I said: What do your words They have told the truth and the lie (too) imply? Thereupon he said: Allah's Messenger ( ‌صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ‌ ) came to Mecca and the polytheists said that Muhammad and his Companions had emaciated and would, therefore, be unable to circumambulate the House; and they felt jealous of him (the Holy Prophet). (It was due to this) that Allah's Messenger ( ‌صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ‌ ) commanded them to walk swiftly in three (circuits) and walk (normally) in four. I said to him: Inform me if it is Sunnah to observe Tawaf between al-Safa and al-Marwa while riding, for your people look upon it as Sunnah. He (Ibn `Abbas) said: They have told the truth and the lie too. I said: What do your words They have told the truth and the lie too imply? He said: When Allah's Messenger ( ‌صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ‌ ) had come to Mecca, there was such a large gathering of people around him that even the virgins had come out of their houses (to catch a glimpse of his face). And they were saying: He is Muhammad; He is Muhammad. Allah's Messenger ( ‌صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ‌ ) (was so gentle and kind) that the people were not beaten back (to make way) in front of him. When there was a throng (of people) around him, he rode (the she-camel). However, walking and trotting are better.

و حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ أَبِي عُمَرَ حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ عَنْ ابْنِ أَبِي حُسَيْنٍ عَنْ أَبِي الطُّفَيْلِ قَالَ قُلْتُ لِابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ إِنَّ قَوْمَکَ يَزْعُمُونَ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ رَمَلَ بِالْبَيْتِ وَبَيْنَ الصَّفَا وَالْمَرْوَةِ وَهِيَ سُنَّةٌ قَالَ صَدَقُوا وَکَذَبُوا

This hadith has been narrated on the authority of jurairi with the same chain of transmitters but with a slight variation of words (and this is) that he (the narrator) did not say: They felt jealous of him. but said: The people of Mecca, were jealous people.

و حَدَّثَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ رَافِعٍ حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَی بْنُ آدَمَ حَدَّثَنَا زُهَيْرٌ عَنْ عَبْدِ الْمَلِکِ بْنِ سَعِيدِ بْنِ الْأَبْجَرِ عَنْ أَبِي الطُّفَيْلِ قَالَ قُلْتُ لِابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ أُرَانِي قَدْ رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ فَصِفْهُ لِي قَالَ قُلْتُ رَأَيْتُهُ عِنْدَ الْمَرْوَةِ عَلَی نَاقَةٍ وَقَدْ کَثُرَ النَّاسُ عَلَيْهِ قَالَ فَقَالَ ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ ذَاکَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِنَّهُمْ کَانُوا لَا يُدَعُّونَ عَنْهُ وَلَا يُکْرَهُونَ

Abu Tufail reported: I said to Ibn 'Abbas (Allah be pleased with them): People are of the view that Allah's Messenger ( ‌صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ‌ ) moved quickly round the House and between al-Safa and al-Marwa, and (thus) it is Sunnah. He said: They told the truth and they told the lie.

و حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو الرَّبِيعِ الزَّهْرَانِيُّ حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادٌ يَعْنِي ابْنَ زَيْدٍ عَنْ أَيُّوبَ عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ عَنْ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ قَدِمَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَأَصْحَابُهُ مَکَّةَ وَقَدْ وَهَنَتْهُمْ حُمَّی يَثْرِبَ قَالَ الْمُشْرِکُونَ إِنَّهُ يَقْدَمُ عَلَيْکُمْ غَدًا قَوْمٌ قَدْ وَهَنَتْهُمْ الْحُمَّی وَلَقُوا مِنْهَا شِدَّةً فَجَلَسُوا مِمَّا يَلِي الْحِجْرَ وَأَمَرَهُمْ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنْ يَرْمُلُوا ثَلَاثَةَ أَشْوَاطٍ وَيَمْشُوا مَا بَيْنَ الرُّکْنَيْنِ لِيَرَی الْمُشْرِکُونَ جَلَدَهُمْ فَقَالَ الْمُشْرِکُونَ هَؤُلَائِ الَّذِينَ زَعَمْتُمْ أَنَّ الْحُمَّی قَدْ وَهَنَتْهُمْ هَؤُلَائِ أَجْلَدُ مِنْ کَذَا وَکَذَا قَالَ ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ وَلَمْ يَمْنَعْهُ أَنْ يَأْمُرَهُمْ أَنْ يَرْمُلُوا الْأَشْوَاطَ کُلَّهَا إِلَّا الْإِبْقَائُ عَلَيْهِمْ

Abu Tufail reported; I. said to Ibn 'Abbas (Allah be pleased with them): I think that I saw Allah's Messenger ( ‌صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ‌ ). He (Ibn 'Abbis) said' Give a description of him to me. I said: I saw him near al-Marwa on the back of a she- camel, and people had thronged around him. Thereupon Ibn'Abbis said: It was Allah's Messenger ( ‌صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ‌ ) for they (the Compainions of the Holy Prophet) were neither pushed aside from him, nor were they turned away.

و حَدَّثَنِي عَمْرٌو النَّاقِدُ وَابْنُ أَبِي عُمَرَ وَأَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَبْدَةَ جَمِيعًا عَنْ ابْنِ عُيَيْنَةَ قَالَ ابْنُ عَبْدَةَ حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ عَنْ عَمْرٍو عَنْ عَطَائٍ عَنْ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ إِنَّمَا سَعَی رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَرَمَلَ بِالْبَيْتِ لِيُرِيَ الْمُشْرِکِينَ قُوَّتَهُ

Ibn 'Abbas (At lab be pleased with them) reported: Allah's Messenger ( ‌صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ‌ ) and his Companions came to Mecca and the fever in Medina had weakened them. Thereupon the polytheists (of Mecca) said: There would come to you a people whom the fever has made weak and they have suffered severely from it. They sat in Hatim. Thereupon Allah's Apostle ( ‌صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ‌ ) commanded them to walk quickly ift three circuits and walk (in four) between the two corners. so that the polytheists should. see their endurance. The polytheists then said (to one anothery You were under the impression that fever had emaciated them. whereas they are stronger than so and so. Ibn Abbas said: He (the Holy Prophet) did not command them (the Muslims) to walk quickly in all the circuits out of kindness to them.

حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَی بْنُ يَحْيَی أَخْبَرَنَا اللَّيْثُ ح و حَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ حَدَّثَنَا لَيْثٌ عَنْ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ عَنْ سَالِمِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ أَنَّهُ قَالَ لَمْ أَرَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَمْسَحُ مِنْ الْبَيْتِ إِلَّا الرُّکْنَيْنِ الْيَمَانِيَيْنِ

Ibn Abbas (Allah be pleased with them) reported: Allah. 's Messenger (peace be upon him) observed Sa'i and walked quickly round the House with a view to showing his strength to the polytheists.

Ahdullah b. Umar (reported) that he had not seen Allah's Messenger (way peace he upon him) touching anything in the House, except the two Yamani corners.

و حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّی حَدَّثَنَا خَالِدُ بْنُ الْحَارِثِ عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ عَنْ نَافِعٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ذَکَرَ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ کَانَ لَا يَسْتَلِمُ إِلَّا الْحَجَرَ وَالرُّکْنَ الْيَمَانِيَ

Salim reported on the authority of his father (Allah he pleased with him) that Allah'& Messenger (tinny peace be upon him) did not touch any of the corners of the House. except that of Black Corner (in which the Black Stone is embedded and that (portion) near it, towards the houses of the tribe of jumuhi.

Nafi' reported on the authority of 'Abdullah (Allah be pleased with him) that Allah's Messenger (way peace be upon him) did not touch but the Stone and the Yamani corner.

Ibn 'Umar (Allah be pleased with them) reported: I have not abandoned touching of Yamani corners (and kissing of) the Stone since I saw Allah's messneger ( ‌صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ‌ ) touching them both In hardship and ease.

مَا تَرَكْتُهُ مُنْذُ رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ يَفْعَلُهُ. ← رَأَيْتُ ابْنَ عُمَرَ يَسْتَلِمُ الْحَجَرَ بِيَدِهِ ثُمَّ قَبَّلَ يَدَهُ ← نَافِعٍ ← عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ ← أَبُو خَالِدٍ الْأَحْمَرُ، ← أَبُو بَکْرٍ ← أَبِي خَالِدٍ ← أَبُو بَکْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ وَابْنُ نُمَيْرٍ جَمِيعًا
