و حَدَّثَنَاه أَبُو بَکْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ يَعْنِي ابْنَ مُوسَی حَدَّثَنَا شَيْبَانُ عَنْ أَشْعَثَ بْنِ أَبِي الشَّعْثَائِ عَنْ الْأَسْوَدِ بْنِ يَزِيدَ عَنْ عَائِشَةَ قَالَتْ سَأَلْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَنْ الْحِجْرِ وَسَاقَ الْحَدِيثَ بِمَعْنَی حَدِيثِ أَبِي الْأَحْوَصِ وَقَالَ فِيهِ فَقُلْتُ فَمَا شَأْنُ بَابِهِ مُرْتَفِعًا لَا يُصْعَدُ إِلَيْهِ إِلَّا بِسُلَّمٍ وَقَالَ مَخَافَةَ أَنْ تَنْفِرَ قُلُوبُهُمْ

A'isha (Allah be pleased with her) reported: I asked Allah's Messenger ( ‌صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ‌ ) about the wall, circumpassing the House (i. e. whether the wall on the side of Hijr was included in the Ka'ba). He said, Yes. I said: Then why did they not include it in the House? He said: 'Your people ran short of the means (to do so). I said: Why is it that the level of its door is raised high? He said: Your people did it so that they should admit one whom they liked, and forbid him whom they disliked, and if your people were not new converts to faith, and I did not apprehend that their hearts would feel agitated at this. I would have definitely included (the area of) this wall-in the House and would have brought the door to the level of the ground.

حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَی بْنُ يَحْيَی قَالَ قَرَأْتُ عَلَی مَالِکٍ عَنْ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ عَنْ سُلَيْمَانَ بْنِ يَسَارٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَبَّاسٍ أَنَّهُ قَالَ کَانَ الْفَضْلُ بْنُ عَبَّاسٍ رَدِيفَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَجَائَتْهُ امْرَأَةٌ مِنْ خَثْعَمَ تَسْتَفْتِيهِ فَجَعَلَ الْفَضْلُ يَنْظُرُ إِلَيْهَا وَتَنْظُرُ إِلَيْهِ فَجَعَلَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَصْرِفُ وَجْهَ الْفَضْلِ إِلَی الشِّقِّ الْآخَرِ قَالَتْ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنَّ فَرِيضَةَ اللَّهِ عَلَی عِبَادِهِ فِي الْحَجِّ أَدْرَکَتْ أَبِي شَيْخًا کَبِيرًا لَا يَسْتَطِيعُ أَنْ يَثْبُتَ عَلَی الرَّاحِلَةِ أَفَأَحُجُّ عَنْهُ قَالَ نَعَمْ وَذَلِکَ فِي حَجَّةِ الْوَدَاعِ

A'isha reported: I asked Allah's Messenger ( ‌صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ‌ ) about Hijr, and the rest of the hadith is the same. I also said: Why is it that the door has been made on a higher level, and one cannot (get into it) but with the help of a ladder? The rest of the hadith is the same as reported above and the concluding words are: (I do not change it) out of the apprehension that their hearts may disapprove of it.

حَدَّثَنِي عَلِيُّ بْنُ خَشْرَمٍ أَخْبَرَنَا عِيسَی عَنْ ابْنِ جُرَيْجٍ عَنْ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ حَدَّثَنَا سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ يَسَارٍ عَنْ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ عَنْ الْفَضْلِ أَنَّ امْرَأَةً مِنْ خَثْعَمَ قَالَتْ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنَّ أَبِي شَيْخٌ کَبِيرٌ عَلَيْهِ فَرِيضَةُ اللَّهِ فِي الْحَجِّ وَهُوَ لَا يَسْتَطِيعُ أَنْ يَسْتَوِيَ عَلَی ظَهْرِ بَعِيرِهِ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَحُجِّي عَنْهُ

Abdullah b. 'Abbas reported that while al-Fadl b. Abbas had been riding behind Allah's Messenger ( ‌صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ‌ ) a women of the tribe of Khath'am came to him (to the Holy Proppet) asking for a religious verdict. Fadl looked at her and she looked at him. Allah's Messenger ( ‌صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ‌ ) turned the face of al-Fadl to the other side. She said: Messenger of Allah, there is an obligation from Allah upon His servants in regard to Hajj. (But) my father is an aged man; he is incapable of riding safely. May I perform Hajj on his behalf? He said: Yes. It was during the Farewell Pilgrimage.

حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَکْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ وَزُهَيْرُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ وَابْنُ أَبِي عُمَرَ جَمِيعًا عَنْ ابْنِ عُيَيْنَةَ قَالَ أَبُو بَکْرٍ حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ بْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ عُقْبَةَ عَنْ کُرَيْبٍ مَوْلَی ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ عَنْ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ عَنْ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لَقِيَ رَکْبًا بِالرَّوْحَائِ فَقَالَ مَنْ الْقَوْمُ قَالُوا الْمُسْلِمُونَ فَقَالُوا مَنْ أَنْتَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ فَرَفَعَتْ إِلَيْهِ امْرَأَةٌ صَبِيًّا فَقَالَتْ أَلِهَذَا حَجٌّ قَالَ نَعَمْ وَلَکِ أَجْرٌ

Fadl reported that a woman of Banu Khath'am said: Messenger of Allah, my father is very old. There is an old obligation of Hajj upon him from Allah, but he is not capable of sitting on the back of the camel. Thereupon Allah's Apostle ( ‌صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ‌ ) said: Perform Hajj on his behalf.

حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو کُرَيْبٍ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْعَلَائِ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو أُسَامَةَ عَنْ سُفْيَانَ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عُقْبَةَ عَنْ کُرَيْبٍ عَنْ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ رَفَعَتْ امْرَأَةٌ صَبِيًّا لَهَا فَقَالَتْ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ أَلِهَذَا حَجٌّ قَالَ نَعَمْ وَلَکِ أَجْرٌ

Ibn Abbas reported that Allah's Apostle ( ‌صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ‌ ) met some riders at al-Rauha and asked who they were. They replied that they were Muslims. They said: Who art thou? He said: (I am) Messengef of Allah. A woman (then) lifted up a boy to him and said: Would this child be credited with having performed the Hajj? Thereupon he said: Yes, and you will have a reward.

رَفَعَتْ امْرَأَةٌ صَبِيًّا لَهَا فَقَالَتْ ← ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، ← كُرَيْبٍ، ← مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عُقْبَةَ ← سُفْيَانَ، ← أَبُو أُسَامَةَ ← أَبُو کُرَيْبٍ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْعَلائِ

و حَدَّثَنِي زُهَيْرُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ هَارُونَ أَخْبَرَنَا الرَّبِيعُ بْنُ مُسْلِمٍ الْقُرَشِيُّ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ زِيَادٍ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ قَالَ خَطَبَنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ قَدْ فَرَضَ اللَّهُ عَلَيْکُمْ الْحَجَّ فَحُجُّوا فَقَالَ رَجُلٌ أَکُلَّ عَامٍ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ فَسَکَتَ حَتَّی قَالَهَا ثَلَاثًا فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لَوْ قُلْتُ نَعَمْ لَوَجَبَتْ وَلَمَا اسْتَطَعْتُمْ ثُمَّ قَالَ ذَرُونِي مَا تَرَکْتُکُمْ فَإِنَّمَا هَلَکَ مَنْ کَانَ قَبْلَکُمْ بِکَثْرَةِ سُؤَالِهِمْ وَاخْتِلَافِهِمْ عَلَی أَنْبِيَائِهِمْ فَإِذَا أَمَرْتُکُمْ بِشَيْئٍ فَأْتُوا مِنْهُ مَا اسْتَطَعْتُمْ وَإِذَا نَهَيْتُکُمْ عَنْ شَيْئٍ فَدَعُوهُ

A hadith like this has been narrated on the authority of Ibn 'Abbas through another chain of transmitters.

حَدَّثَنَا زُهَيْرُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّی قَالَا حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَی وَهُوَ الْقَطَّانُ عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ أَخْبَرَنِي نَافِعٌ عَنْ ابْنِ عُمَرَ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ لَا تُسَافِرْ الْمَرْأَةُ ثَلَاثًا إِلَّا وَمَعَهَا ذُو مَحْرَمٍ

Abu Huraira (Allah be pleased with him) reported: Allah's Messenger ( ‌صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ‌ ) addressed us and said: O people, Allah has made Hajj obligatory for you; so perform Hajj. Thereupon a person said: Messenger of Allah, (is it to be performed) every year? He (the Holy Prophet) kept quiet, and he repeated (these words) thrice, whereupon Allah's Messenger ( ‌صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ‌ ) said: If I were to say Yes, it would become obligatory (for you to perform it every year) and you would not be able to do it. Then he said: Leave me with what I have left to you, for those who were before you were desroyed because of excessive questioning, and their opposition to their apostles. So when I command you to do anything, do it as much as it lies in your power and when I forbid you to do anything, then abandon it.

Ibn Umar (Allah be pleased with them) reported Allah's Messenger ( ‌صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ‌ ) as saying: A woman should not set out on three (days' journey) except when she has a Mahram with her.

و حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ رَافِعٍ حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ أَبِي فُدَيْکٍ أَخْبَرَنَا الضَّحَّاکُ عَنْ نَافِعٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ عَنْ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ لَا يَحِلُّ لِامْرَأَةٍ تُؤْمِنُ بِاللَّهِ وَالْيَوْمِ الْآخِرِ تُسَافِرُ مَسِيرَةَ ثَلَاثِ لَيَالٍ إِلَّا وَمَعَهَا ذُو مَحْرَمٍ

This hadith has been narrated on the same authority by Ubaidullah. And in the narration of Abu Bakr (the words are): More than three (days). Ibn Numair narrated on the authority of his father, (and the words are): Three (days) except (when) she has a Mahram with her.

حَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ وَعُثْمَانُ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ جَمِيعًا عَنْ جَرِيرٍ قَالَ قُتَيْبَةُ حَدَّثَنَا جَرِيرٌ عَنْ عَبْدِ الْمَلِکِ وَهُوَ ابْنُ عُمَيْرٍ عَنْ قَزَعَةَ عَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ مِنْهُ حَدِيثًا فَأَعْجَبَنِي فَقُلْتُ لَهُ أَنْتَ سَمِعْتَ هَذَا مِنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ فَأَقُولُ عَلَی رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مَا لَمْ أَسْمَعْ قَالَ سَمِعْتُهُ يَقُولُ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لَا تَشُدُّوا الرِّحَالَ إِلَّا إِلَی ثَلَاثَةِ مَسَاجِدَ مَسْجِدِي هَذَا وَالْمَسْجِدِ الْحَرَامِ وَالْمَسْجِدِ الْأَقْصَی وَسَمِعْتُهُ يَقُولُ لَا تُسَافِرْ الْمَرْأَةُ يَوْمَيْنِ مِنْ الدَّهْرِ إِلَّا وَمَعَهَا ذُو مَحْرَمٍ مِنْهَا أَوْ زَوْجُهَا

Abdullah b. Umar (Allah -be pleased with them) reported Allah's Apostle (ﷺ) as saying: It is not lawful for a woman who believes in Allah and the Hereafter to travel for more than three nights journey except when there is a Mahram with her.
