حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ يُونُسَ حَدَّثَنَا زُهَيْرٌ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو إِسْحَقَ ح و حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَی بْنُ يَحْيَی أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو خَيْثَمَةَ عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَقَ قَالَ سَأَلْتُ الْأَسْوَدَ بْنَ يَزِيدَ عَمَّا حَدَّثَتْهُ عَائِشَةُ عَنْ صَلَاةِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَتْ کَانَ يَنَامُ أَوَّلَ اللَّيْلِ وَيُحْيِ آخِرَهُ ثُمَّ إِنْ کَانَتْ لَهُ حَاجَةٌ إِلَی أَهْلِهِ قَضَی حَاجَتَهُ ثُمَّ يَنَامُ فَإِذَا کَانَ عِنْدَ النِّدَائِ الْأَوَّلِ قَالَتْ وَثَبَ وَلَا وَاللَّهِ مَا قَالَتْ قَامَ فَأَفَاضَ عَلَيْهِ الْمَائَ وَلَا وَاللَّهِ مَا قَالَتْ اغْتَسَلَ وَأَنَا أَعْلَمُ مَا تُرِيدُ وَإِنْ لَمْ يَکُنْ جُنُبًا تَوَضَّأَ وُضُوئَ الرَّجُلِ لِلصَّلَاةِ ثُمَّ صَلَّی الرَّکْعَتَيْنِ

It is reported on the authority of 'A'isha that the prayer of Allah's Messenger ( ‌صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ‌ ) in the night consisted of ten rak'ahs. He observed a Witr and two rak'ahs (of Sunan) of the dawn prayer, and thus the total comes to thirteen rak'ahs.

حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَکْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ وَأَبُو کُرَيْبٍ قَالَا حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَی بْنُ آدَمَ حَدَّثَنَا عَمَّارُ بْنُ رُزَيْقٍ عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَقَ عَنْ الْأَسْوَدِ عَنْ عَائِشَةَ قَالَتْ کَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يُصَلِّي مِنْ اللَّيْلِ حَتَّی يَکُونَ آخِرَ صَلَاتِهِ الْوِتْرُ

A'isha thus reported about the (night prayer) of the Messenger of Allah ( ‌صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ‌ ): He used to sleep in the early part of the night, and woke up in the latter part. If he then wished intercourse with his wife, he satisfied his desire, and then went to sleep; and when the first call to prayer was made he jumped up (by Allah, she, i. e. 'A'isha, did not say he stood up ), and poured water over him (by Allah she, i. e. 'A'isha, did not say that he took a bath but I know what she meant) and if he did not have an intercourse, he performed ablution, just as a man performs ablution for prayer and then observed two rak'ahs.

حَدَّثَنِي هَنَّادُ بْنُ السَّرِيِّ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الْأَحْوَصِ عَنْ أَشْعَثَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ مَسْرُوقٍ قَالَ سَأَلْتُ عَائِشَةَ عَنْ عَمَلِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَتْ کَانَ يُحِبُّ الدَّائِمَ قَالَ قُلْتُ أَيَّ حِينٍ کَانَ يُصَلِّي فَقَالَتْ کَانَ إِذَا سَمِعَ الصَّارِخَ قَامَ فَصَلَّی

A'isha observed that the Messenger of Allah ( ‌صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ‌ ) used to observe prayer in the night and the last of his (night) prayer was Witr.

الصَّارِخَ قَامَ فَصَلَّی ← قُلْتُ أَيَّ حِينٍ کَانَ يُصَلِّي فَقَالَتْ کَانَ إِذَا ← عَمَلِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ فَقَالَتْ کَانَ يُحِبُّ الدَّائِمَ ← سَأَلْتُ عَائِشَةَ ← مَسْرُوقٍ ← أَبِيهِ ← أَشْعَثَ، ← أَبُو الْأَحْوَصِ، ← هَنَّادُ بْنُ السَّرِيِّ

حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو کُرَيْبٍ أَخْبَرَنَا ابْنُ بِشْرٍ عَنْ مِسْعَرٍ عَنْ سَعْدٍ عَنْ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ عَنْ عَائِشَةَ قَالَتْ مَا أَلْفَی رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ السَّحَرُ الْأَعْلَی فِي بَيْتِي أَوْ عِنْدِي إِلَّا نَائِمًا

Masruq is reported to have asked 'A'isha about the action (most pleasing to) the Messenger of Allah ( ‌صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ‌ ). She said: He (the Holy Prophet) loved (that action) which one keeps on doing regularly. I said (to 'A'isha): When did he pray (at night)? She replied: When he heard the cock crow, he got up and observed prayer.

حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَکْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ وَنَصْرُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ وَابْنُ أَبِي عُمَرَ قَالَ أَبُو بَکْرٍ حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ بْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ عَنْ أَبِي النَّضْرِ عَنْ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ عَنْ عَائِشَةَ قَالَتْ کَانَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِذَا صَلَّی رَکْعَتَيْ الْفَجْرِ فَإِنْ کُنْتُ مُسْتَيْقِظَةً حَدَّثَنِي وَإِلَّا اضْطَجَعَ

A'isha reported: Never did the earlier part of the dawn find the Messenger of Allah ( ‌صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ‌ ) but sleeping in my house or near me.

حَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ وَإِسْحَقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ وَسُوَيْدُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ وَيَعْقُوبُ الدَّوْرَقِيُّ کُلُّهُمْ عَنْ مَرْوَانَ الْفَزَارِيِّ قَالَ قُتَيْبَةُ حَدَّثَنَا الْفَزَارِيُّ عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ الْأَصَمِّ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ الْأَصَمِّ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ قَالَ أَتَی النَّبِيَّ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ رَجُلٌ أَعْمَی فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنَّهُ لَيْسَ لِي قَائِدٌ يَقُودُنِي إِلَی الْمَسْجِدِ فَسَأَلَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنْ يُرَخِّصَ لَهُ فَيُصَلِّيَ فِي بَيْتِهِ فَرَخَّصَ لَهُ فَلَمَّا وَلَّی دَعَاهُ فَقَالَ هَلْ تَسْمَعُ النِّدَائَ بِالصَّلَاةِ قَالَ نَعَمْ قَالَ فَأَجِبْ

Abdullah reported Allah's Messenger ( ‌صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ‌ ) as saying about people who are absent from Jumu'a prayer: I intend that I should command a person to lead people in prayer, and then burn those persons who absent themselves from Jumu'a prayer in their houses.

حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَکْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بِشْرٍ الْعَبْدِيُّ حَدَّثَنَا زَکَرِيَّائُ بْنُ أَبِي زَائِدَةَ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْمَلِکِ بْنُ عُمَيْرٍ عَنْ أَبِي الْأَحْوَصِ قَالَ قَالَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ لَقَدْ رَأَيْتُنَا وَمَا يَتَخَلَّفُ عَنْ الصَّلَاةِ إِلَّا مُنَافِقٌ قَدْ عُلِمَ نِفَاقُهُ أَوْ مَرِيضٌ إِنْ کَانَ الْمَرِيضُ لَيَمْشِي بَيْنَ رَجُلَيْنِ حَتَّی يَأْتِيَ الصَّلَاةَ وَقَالَ إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَلَّمَنَا سُنَنَ الْهُدَی وَإِنَّ مِنْ سُنَنِ الْهُدَی الصَّلَاةَ فِي الْمَسْجِدِ الَّذِي يُؤَذَّنُ فِيهِ

Abu Huraira reported: There came to the Messenger of Allah ( ‌صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ‌ ) a blind man and said: Messenger of Allah, I have no one to guide me to the mosque. He, therefore, asked. Allah's Messenger ( ‌صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ‌ ) permission to say prayer in his house. He (tee Holy Prophet) granted him permission. Then when the man turned away he called him and said: Do you hear the call to prayer? He said: Yes. He (the Prophet then) said: Respond to it.

حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَکْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ حَدَّثَنَا الْفَضْلُ بْنُ دُکَيْنٍ عَنْ أَبِي الْعُمَيْسِ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ الْأَقْمَرِ عَنْ أَبِي الْأَحْوَصِ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ قَالَ مَنْ سَرَّهُ أَنْ يَلْقَی اللَّهَ غَدًا مُسْلِمًا فَلْيُحَافِظْ عَلَی هَؤُلَائِ الصَّلَوَاتِ حَيْثُ يُنَادَی بِهِنَّ فَإِنَّ اللَّهَ شَرَعَ لِنَبِيِّکُمْ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ سُنَنَ الْهُدَی وَإِنَّهُنَّ مِنْ سُنَنِ الْهُدَی وَلَوْ أَنَّکُمْ صَلَّيْتُمْ فِي بُيُوتِکُمْ کَمَا يُصَلِّي هَذَا الْمُتَخَلِّفُ فِي بَيْتِهِ لَتَرَکْتُمْ سُنَّةَ نَبِيِّکُمْ وَلَوْ تَرَکْتُمْ سُنَّةَ نَبِيِّکُمْ لَضَلَلْتُمْ وَمَا مِنْ رَجُلٍ يَتَطَهَّرُ فَيُحْسِنُ الطُّهُورَ ثُمَّ يَعْمِدُ إِلَی مَسْجِدٍ مِنْ هَذِهِ الْمَسَاجِدِ إِلَّا کَتَبَ اللَّهُ لَهُ بِکُلِّ خَطْوَةٍ يَخْطُوهَا حَسَنَةً وَيَرْفَعُهُ بِهَا دَرَجَةً وَيَحُطُّ عَنْهُ بِهَا سَيِّئَةً وَلَقَدْ رَأَيْتُنَا وَمَا يَتَخَلَّفُ عَنْهَا إِلَّا مُنَافِقٌ مَعْلُومُ النِّفَاقِ وَلَقَدْ کَانَ الرَّجُلُ يُؤْتَی بِهِ يُهَادَی بَيْنَ الرَّجُلَيْنِ حَتَّی يُقَامَ فِي الصَّفِّ

Abdullah (b. Mas'ud) reported: I have seen the time when no one stayed away from prayer except a hypocrite, whose hypocrisy was well known, or a sick man, but if a sick man could walk between two persons (i.e. with the help of two persons with one on each side) he would come to prayer. And (further) said: The Messenger of Allah ( ‌صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ‌ ) taught us the paths of right guidance, among which is prayer in the mosque in which the Adhan is called.

حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَکْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الْأَحْوَصِ عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ الْمُهَاجِرِ عَنْ أَبِي الشَّعْثَائِ قَالَ کُنَّا قُعُودًا فِي الْمَسْجِدِ مَعَ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ فَأَذَّنَ الْمُؤَذِّنُ فَقَامَ رَجُلٌ مِنْ الْمَسْجِدِ يَمْشِي فَأَتْبَعَهُ أَبُو هُرَيْرَةَ بَصَرَهُ حَتَّی خَرَجَ مِنْ الْمَسْجِدِ فَقَالَ أَبُو هُرَيْرَةَ أَمَّا هَذَا فَقَدْ عَصَی أَبَا الْقَاسِمِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ

Abdullah (b. Mas'ud) reported: He who likes to meet Allah tomorrow as Muslim, he should persevere in observing these prayers, when a call is announced for them, for Allah has laid down for your Prophet the paths of right guidance, and these (prayers) are among the paths of right guidance. If you were to pray in your houses as this man why stays away (from the mosque) prays in his house, you would abandon the practice of your Prophet, and if you were to abandon the practice of your Prophet, you would go astray. No man purifies himself, doing it well, then makes for one of those mosques without Allah recording a blessing for him for every step he takes raising him a degree for it, and effacing a sin from him for it. I have seen the time when no one stayed away from it, except a hypocrite, who was well known for his hypocrisy, whereas a man would be brought swaying (due to weakness) between two men till he was set up in a row.

حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ أَبِي عُمَرَ الْمَکِّيُّ حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ هُوَ ابْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ عَنْ عُمَرَ بْنِ سَعِيدٍ عَنْ أَشْعَثَ بْنِ أَبِي الشَّعْثَائِ الْمُحَارِبِيِّ عَنْ أَبِيهِ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ أَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ وَرَأَی رَجُلًا يَجْتَازُ الْمَسْجِدَ خَارِجًا بَعْدَ الْأَذَانِ فَقَالَ أَمَّا هَذَا فَقَدْ عَصَی أَبَا الْقَاسِمِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ

Abu Sha'tha' reported: While we were sitting with Abu Huraira in a mosque a man went out of the mosque after the call to prayer had been announced. (A man stood up in the mosque and set off.) Abu Huraira's eyes followed him till he went out of the mosque. Upon this Abu Huraira said: This man has disobeyed Abu'l- Qasim (Muhammad) ( ‌صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ‌ ).

اَمَّا ھٰذَا فَقَدْ عَصَی اَبَا الْقَاسِمِ ← أَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ وَرَأَی رَجُلًا يَجْتَازُ الْمَسْجِدَ خَارِجًا بَعْدَ الْأَذَانِ ← أَبِيهِ ← أَشْعَثَ بْنِ أَبِي الشَّعْثَائِ الْمُحَارِبِيِّ ← عُمَرُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ، ← سُفْيَانُ هُوَ ابْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ، ← ابْنُ أَبِي عُمَرَ الْمَکِّيُّ

حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ أَخْبَرَنَا الْمُغِيرَةُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ الْمَخْزُومِيُّ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْوَاحِدِ وَهُوَ ابْنُ زِيَادٍ حَدَّثَنَا عُثْمَانُ بْنُ حَکِيمٍ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ أَبِي عَمْرَةَ قَالَ دَخَلَ عُثْمَانُ بْنُ عَفَّانَ الْمَسْجِدَ بَعْدَ صَلَاةِ الْمَغْرِبِ فَقَعَدَ وَحْدَهُ فَقَعَدْتُ إِلَيْهِ فَقَالَ يَا ابْنَ أَخِي سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ مَنْ صَلَّی الْعِشَائَ فِي جَمَاعَةٍ فَکَأَنَّمَا قَامَ نِصْفَ اللَّيْلِ وَمَنْ صَلَّی الصُّبْحَ فِي جَمَاعَةٍ فَکَأَنَّمَا صَلَّی اللَّيْلَ کُلَّهُ

Abu Sha'tha' al-Muharibi reported on the authority of his father, who said: I heard it from Abu Huraira that he saw a person getting out of the mosque after the call to prayer had been announced. Upon this he remarked: This (man) disobeyed Abu'l-Qasim ( ‌صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ‌ ).

رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ← يَا ابْنَ أَخِي ← دَخَلَ عُثْمَانُ بْنُ عَفَّانَ الْمَسْجِدَ بَعْدَ صَلَاةِ الْمَغْرِبِ فَقَعَدَ وَحْدَهُ فَقَعَدْتُ إِلَيْهِ ← عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ أَبِي عَمْرَةَ ← عُثْمَانَ بْنِ حَكِيمٍ ← عَبْدِ الْوَاحِدِ وَهُوَ ابْنُ زِيَادٍ ← الْمُغِيرَةُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ الْمَخْزُومِيُّ ← إِسْحَقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ

حَدَّثَنِيهِ زُهَيْرُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ الْأَسَدِيُّ ح و حَدَّثَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ رَافِعٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ جَمِيعًا عَنْ سُفْيَانَ عَنْ أَبِي سَهْلٍ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ حَکِيمٍ بِهَذَا الْإِسْنَادِ مِثْلَهُ

Abd al-Rahman b. Abd 'Amr reported: 'Uthman b. 'Affan (narrated the mosque after evening prayer and sat alone. I also sat alone with him, so he said: 0, son of my brother, I heard the Messenger of Allah ( ‌صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ‌ ) say: He who observed the 'Isha' prayer in congregation, it was as if he prayed up to midnight, and he who prayed the morning prayer in congregation, it was as if he prayed the whole night.
