حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو جَعْفَرٍ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الصَّبَّاحِ حَدَّثَنَا حَفْصُ بْنُ غِيَاثٍ حَدَّثَنَا عَاصِمٌ الْأَحْوَلُ قَالَ قِيلَ لِأَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِکٍ بَلَغَکَ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ لَا حِلْفَ فِي الْإِسْلَامِ فَقَالَ أَنَسٌ قَدْ حَالَفَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بَيْنَ قُرَيْشٍ وَالْأَنْصَارِ فِي دَارِهِ

It was said to Anas b. Malik: You must have heard this that Allah's Messenger ( ‌صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ‌ ) said: There is no alliance (hilf) of brotherhood in Islam. Anas said: Allah's Messenger ( ‌صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ‌ ) established the bond of fraternity between the Quraish and the Ansar in his home.

Anas reported Allah's Messenger ( ‌صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ‌ ) established fraternity between the Quraish and the Ansar in his house at Medina.

حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَکْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ نُمَيْرٍ وَأَبُو أُسَامَةَ عَنْ زَکَرِيَّائَ عَنْ سَعْدِ بْنِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ جُبَيْرِ بْنِ مُطْعِمٍ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لَا حِلْفَ فِي الْإِسْلَامِ وَأَيُّمَا حِلْفٍ کَانَ فِي الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ لَمْ يَزِدْهُ الْإِسْلَامُ إِلَّا شِدَّةً

Jubair b. Mut'im reported Allah's Messenger ( ‌صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ‌ ) as saying: There is no alliance (hilf) in Islam but (the hilf) established in the pre-Islamic days (for good). Islam intensifies and strengthens it.

حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَکْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ وَإِسْحَقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ وَعَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عُمَرَ بْنِ أَبَانَ کُلُّهُمْ عَنْ حُسَيْنٍ قَالَ أَبُو بَکْرٍ حَدَّثَنَا حُسَيْنُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ الْجُعْفِيُّ عَنْ مُجَمَّعِ بْنِ يَحْيَی عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ أَبِي بُرْدَةَ عَنْ أَبِي بُرْدَةَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ قَالَ صَلَّيْنَا الْمَغْرِبَ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ثُمَّ قُلْنَا لَوْ جَلَسْنَا حَتَّی نُصَلِّيَ مَعَهُ الْعِشَائَ قَالَ فَجَلَسْنَا فَخَرَجَ عَلَيْنَا فَقَالَ مَا زِلْتُمْ هَاهُنَا قُلْنَا يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّيْنَا مَعَکَ الْمَغْرِبَ ثُمَّ قُلْنَا نَجْلِسُ حَتَّی نُصَلِّيَ مَعَکَ الْعِشَائَ قَالَ أَحْسَنْتُمْ أَوْ أَصَبْتُمْ قَالَ فَرَفَعَ رَأْسَهُ إِلَی السَّمَائِ وَکَانَ کَثِيرًا مِمَّا يَرْفَعُ رَأْسَهُ إِلَی السَّمَائِ فَقَالَ النُّجُومُ أَمَنَةٌ لِلسَّمَائِ فَإِذَا ذَهَبَتْ النُّجُومُ أَتَی السَّمَائَ مَا تُوعَدُ وَأَنَا أَمَنَةٌ لِأَصْحَابِي فَإِذَا ذَهَبْتُ أَتَی أَصْحَابِي مَا يُوعَدُونَ وَأَصْحَابِي أَمَنَةٌ لِأُمَّتِي فَإِذَا ذَهَبَ أَصْحَابِي أَتَی أُمَّتِي مَا يُوعَدُونَ

Abu Burda reported on the authority of his father: We offered the sunset prayer along with Allah's Apostle ( ‌صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ‌ ). We then said: If we sit (along with Allah's Messenger) and observe night prayer with him it would be very good, so we sat down and he came to us and said: You are still sitting here. I said: Allah's Messenger, we observed evening prayer with you, then we said: Let us sit down and observe night prayer along with you, whereupon he said: You have done well or you have done right. He then lifted his head towards the sky and it often happened that as he lifted his head towards the sky, he said: The stars are a source of security for the sky and when the stars disappear there comes to the sky, i. e. (it meets the same fate) as it has been promised (it would plunge into darkness). And I am a source of safety and security to my Companions and when I would go away there would fall to the lot (of my Companions) as they have been promised with and my Companions are a source of security for the Umma and as they would go there would fall to the lot of my Umma as (its people) have been promised.

حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو خَيْثَمَةَ زُهَيْرُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ وَأَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَبْدَةَ الضَّبِّيُّ وَاللَّفْظُ لِزُهَيْرٍ قَالَا حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ بْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ قَالَ سَمِعَ عَمْرٌو جَابِرًا يُخْبِرُ عَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ الْخُدْرِيِّ عَنْ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ يَأْتِي عَلَی النَّاسِ زَمَانٌ يَغْزُو فِئَامٌ مِنْ النَّاسِ فَيُقَالُ لَهُمْ فِيکُمْ مَنْ رَأَی رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَيَقُولُونَ نَعَمْ فَيُفْتَحُ لَهُمْ ثُمَّ يَغْزُو فِئَامٌ مِنْ النَّاسِ فَيُقَالُ لَهُمْ فِيکُمْ مَنْ رَأَی مَنْ صَحِبَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَيَقُولُونَ نَعَمْ فَيُفْتَحُ لَهُمْ ثُمَّ يَغْزُو فِئَامٌ مِنْ النَّاسِ فَيُقَالُ لَهُمْ هَلْ فِيکُمْ مَنْ رَأَی مَنْ صَحِبَ مَنْ صَحِبَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَيَقُولُونَ نَعَمْ فَيُفْتَحُ لَهُمْ

Abu Sa'id Khudri reported Allah's Apostle ( ‌صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ‌ ) as saying: A time would come for the people when groups of people would set out for fighting in the cause of Allah and it would be said to them: Is there one amongst you who saw Allah's Messenger ( ‌صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ‌ )? And they would say: Yes, and they would be victorious. Then the people would set out for fighting in the cause of Allah and it would be said to them: Is there one amongst you who saw those (who have had the privilege of sitting in the company of Allah's Messenger ( ‌صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ‌ )? And they would say: Yes, and victory would be granted to them. Then a group of persons would set out for fighting in the cause of Allah and it would be said to them: Is there one amongst you who saw one of those who saw those who (had the privilege) of sitting in the company of Allah's Messenger ( ‌صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ‌ )? And they would say: Yes, and the Victory would be granted to them.

حَدَّثَنِي سَعِيدُ بْنُ يَحْيَی بْنِ سَعِيدٍ الْأُمَوِيُّ حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ جُرَيْجٍ عَنْ أَبِي الزُّبَيْرِ عَنْ جَابِرٍ قَالَ زَعَمَ أَبُو سَعِيدٍ الْخُدْرِيُّ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَأْتِي عَلَی النَّاسِ زَمَانٌ يُبْعَثُ مِنْهُمْ الْبَعْثُ فَيَقُولُونَ انْظُرُوا هَلْ تَجِدُونَ فِيکُمْ أَحَدًا مِنْ أَصْحَابِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَيُوجَدُ الرَّجُلُ فَيُفْتَحُ لَهُمْ بِهِ ثُمَّ يُبْعَثُ الْبَعْثُ الثَّانِي فَيَقُولُونَ هَلْ فِيهِمْ مَنْ رَأَی أَصْحَابَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَيُفْتَحُ لَهُمْ بِهِ ثُمَّ يُبْعَثُ الْبَعْثُ الثَّالِثُ فَيُقَالُ انْظُرُوا هَلْ تَرَوْنَ فِيهِمْ مَنْ رَأَی مَنْ رَأَی أَصْحَابَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ثُمَّ يَکُونُ الْبَعْثُ الرَّابِعُ فَيُقَالُ انْظُرُوا هَلْ تَرَوْنَ فِيهِمْ أَحَدًا رَأَی مَنْ رَأَی أَحَدًا رَأَی أَصْحَابَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَيُوجَدُ الرَّجُلُ فَيُفْتَحُ لَهُمْ بِهِ

Abu Sa'id Khudri reported Allah's Messenger ( ‌صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ‌ ) as saying: There would come to the people a time when a detachment would be sent for fighting in the cause of Allah and they would say: See, if you can find amongst them someone from amongst the Companions of Allah's Apostle ( ‌صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ‌ ). They would find a person and they would be granted victory because of him. Then a second detachment would be sent to them and they would say: Do you find amongst them one who had had the privilege of seeing the Companions of the Messenger of Allah ( ‌صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ‌ )? -and the victory would be granted to them because of him. Then the third detachment would be sent and it would be said to them: See, if you find amongst them (who had had the honour of seeing one) who saw those who saw the Companions of Allah's Apostle ( ‌صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ‌ ). Then the fourth detachment would be sent and it would be said to them: See it you find amongst them one who had the privilege (of seeing) one who saw those who saw those who saw the Companions of Allah's Apostle ( ‌صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ‌ ), and a person would be found and they would be granted victory because of him.

حَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ وَهَنَّادُ بْنُ السَّرِيِّ قَالَا حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الْأَحْوَصِ عَنْ مَنْصُورٍ عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ يَزِيدَ عَنْ عَبِيدَةَ السَّلْمَانِيِّ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ خَيْرُ أُمَّتِي الْقَرْنُ الَّذِينَ يَلُونِي ثُمَّ الَّذِينَ يَلُونَهُمْ ثُمَّ الَّذِينَ يَلُونَهُمْ ثُمَّ يَجِيئُ قَوْمٌ تَسْبِقُ شَهَادَةُ أَحَدِهِمْ يَمِينَهُ وَيَمِينُهُ شَهَادَتَهُ لَمْ يَذْکُرْ هَنَّادٌ الْقَرْنَ فِي حَدِيثِهِ و قَالَ قُتَيْبَةُ ثُمَّ يَجِيئُ أَقْوَامٌ

Abdullah reported Allah's Messenger ( ‌صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ‌ ) as saying: The best of my Umma would be those of the generation nearest to mine. Then those nearest to them, then those nearest to them, then people would come whose witness would precede the oath and the oath will precede the witness. Hannad has not made the mention of Qarn in his narration. Qutaiba said that, instead of the word Qaum, the word Aqwam has been used.

حَدَّثَنَا عُثْمَانُ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ وَإِسْحَقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ الْحَنْظَلِيُّ قَالَ إِسْحَقُ أَخْبَرَنَا و قَالَ عُثْمَانُ حَدَّثَنَا جَرِيرٌ عَنْ مَنْصُورٍ عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ عَبِيدَةَ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ قَالَ سُئِلَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَيُّ النَّاسِ خَيْرٌ قَالَ قَرْنِي ثُمَّ الَّذِينَ يَلُونَهُمْ ثُمَّ الَّذِينَ يَلُونَهُمْ ثُمَّ يَجِيئُ قَوْمٌ تَبْدُرُ شَهَادَةُ أَحَدِهِمْ يَمِينَهُ وَتَبْدُرُ يَمِينُهُ شَهَادَتَهُ قَالَ إِبْرَاهِيمُ کَانُوا يَنْهَوْنَنَا وَنَحْنُ غِلْمَانٌ عَنْ الْعَهْدِ وَالشَّهَادَاتِ

Abdullah reported: It was asked from Allah's Apostle ( ‌صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ‌ ) who amongst the people were the best. He said: (People) of my generation, then those next to them, then those next to them, then there would come a people whose evidence would precede their oath and their oath would precede their evidence. Ibrahim said: They forbade us to make vows and bear witness when we were too young.

و حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّی وَابْنُ بَشَّارٍ قَالَا حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ ح و حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّی وَابْنُ بَشَّارٍ قَالَا حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ کِلَاهُمَا عَنْ مَنْصُورٍ بِإِسْنَادِ أَبِي الْأَحْوَصِ وَجَرِيرٍ بِمَعْنَی حَدِيثِهِمَا وَلَيْسَ فِي حَدِيثِهِمَا سُئِلَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ

This hadith has been transmitted by Mansur on the authority of Abu al-Ahwas and Jarir with a slight variation of wording.

وحدثني الحسن بن علي الحلواني ، حدثنا ازهر بن سعد السمان ، عن ابن عون ، عن إبراهيم ، عن عبيدة ، عن عبد الله ، عن النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم، قال: " خير الناس قرني، ثم الذين يلونهم، ثم الذين يلونهم، فلا ادري في الثالثة، او في الرابعة، قال: ثم يتخلف من بعدهم خلف تسبق شهادة احدهم يمينه، ويمينه شهادته ".

Abdullah (b. Mas'ud) reported Allah's Apostle ( ‌صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ‌ ) as saying: The best among people are of my generation, then those next to them. (The narrator said): I do not know whether (he said) it three times or four times. Then there would fellow after them such persons whose evidence would precede the oath, and in case of some others, the oath (would precede) the evidence.

حَدَّثَنِي يَعْقُوبُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ حَدَّثَنَا هُشَيْمٌ عَنْ أَبِي بِشْرٍ ح و حَدَّثَنِي إِسْمَعِيلُ بْنُ سَالِمٍ أَخْبَرَنَا هُشَيْمٌ أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو بِشْرٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ شَقِيقٍ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ خَيْرُ أُمَّتِي الْقَرْنُ الَّذِينَ بُعِثْتُ فِيهِمْ ثُمَّ الَّذِينَ يَلُونَهُمْ وَاللَّهُ أَعْلَمُ أَذَکَرَ الثَّالِثَ أَمْ لَا قَالَ ثُمَّ يَخْلُفُ قَوْمٌ يُحِبُّونَ السَّمَانَةَ يَشْهَدُونَ قَبْلَ أَنْ يُسْتَشْهَدُوا

Abu Huraira reported Allah's Messenger (may, peace be upon him) as saying: The best age of my Umma is one in which I was sent (by Allah as an Apostle), then the one next to that. (The narrator said): And Allah knows best whether he stated this third (time) or not. Then there would come people who would love (to look) bulky and they would hasten to the witness box before they are asked to bear witness.

حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بَشَّارٍ حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ ح و حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو بَکْرِ بْنُ نَافِعٍ حَدَّثَنَا غُنْدَرٌ عَنْ شُعْبَةَ ح و حَدَّثَنِي حَجَّاجُ بْنُ الشَّاعِرِ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الْوَلِيدِ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عَوَانَةَ کِلَاهُمَا عَنْ أَبِي بِشْرٍ بِهَذَا الْإِسْنَادِ مِثْلَهُ غَيْرَ أَنَّ فِي حَدِيثِ شُعْبَةَ قَالَ أَبُو هُرَيْرَةَ فَلَا أَدْرِي مَرَّتَيْنِ أَوْ ثَلَاثَةً

This hadith has been reported on the authority of Abu Huraira through another chain of transmitters (but with this variation) that Abu Huraira said: I do not know whether he (the Holy Prophet) said (these words: Then next ) twice or thrice.

أَبُو هُرَيْرَةَ فَلَا أَدْرِي مَرَّتَيْنِ أَوْ ثَلَاثَةً ← أَبِي بِشْرٍ بِهَذَا الْإِسْنَادِ مِثْلَهُ غَيْرَ أَنَّ فِي حَدِيثِ شُعْبَةَ ← أَبُو عَوَانَةَ کِلَاهُمَا ← أَبُو الْوَلِيدِ، ← حَجَّاجُ بْنُ الشَّاعِرِ ← و، ← شُعْبَةُ، ← غُنْدَرٌ، ← أَبُو بَکْرِ بْنُ نَافِعٍ ← و، ← مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ ← مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بَشَّارٍ
