حَدَّثَنِي زِيَادُ بْنُ يَحْيَى الْحَسَّانِيُّ حَدَّثَنَا حَاتِمٌ يَعْنِي ابْنَ وَرْدَانَ حَدَّثَنَا أَيُّوبُ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ سِيرِينَ عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ قَالَ خَطَبَنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَوْمَ أَضْحًى قَالَ فَوَجَدَ رِيحَ لَحْمٍ فَنَهَاهُمْ أَنْ يَذْبَحُوا قَالَ مَنْ كَانَ ضَحَّى فَلْيُعِدْ ثُمَّ ذَكَرَ بِمِثْلِ حَدِيثِهِمَا

Anas b. Malik reported: Allah's Messenger ( ‌صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ‌ ) addressed us on the day of 'Id al-Adha. He smelt the odour of flesh and he prohibited thern from slaughtering (the animals before the 'Id prayer), saying: He who slaughtered the animals (before the 'Id prayer) should do that again (as it is not valid as a sacrifice).

بِمِثْلِ حَدِيثِهِمَا ← مَنْ كَانَ ضَحَّى فَلْيُعِدْ ثُمَّ ← فَوَجَدَ رِيحَ لَحْمٍ فَنَهَاهُمْ أَنْ يَذْبَحُوا ← خَطَبَنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ يَوْمَ أَضْحًى ← اَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِکٍ، ← مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ سِيرِينَ ← أَيُّوبَ، ← حَاتِمٌ يَعْنِي ابْنَ وَرْدَانَ ← زِيَادُ بْنُ يَحْيَى الْحَسَّانِيُّ

حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ يُونُسَ حَدَّثَنَا زُهَيْرٌ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الزُّبَيْرِ عَنْ جَابِرٍ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لَا تَذْبَحُوا إِلَّا مُسِنَّةً إِلَّا أَنْ يَعْسُرَ عَلَيْكُمْ فَتَذْبَحُوا جَذَعَةً مِنْ الضَّأْنِ

Jabir reported Allah's Messenger ( ‌صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ‌ ) as saying: Sacrifice only a grown-up animal, unless it is difficult for you, in which case sacrifice a ram (of even less than a year, but more than six months' age).

و حَدَّثَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ حَاتِمٍ حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بَکْرٍ أَخْبَرَنَا ابْنُ جُرَيْجٍ أَخْبَرَنِي أَبُو الزُّبَيْرِ أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ جَابِرَ بْنَ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ يَقُولُا صَلَّی بِنَا النَّبِيُّ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَوْمَ النَّحْرِ بِالْمَدِينَةِ فَتَقَدَّمَ رِجَالٌ فَنَحَرُوا وَظَنُّوا أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَدْ نَحَرَ فَأَمَرَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مَنْ کَانَ نَحَرَ قَبْلَهُ أَنْ يُعِيدَ بِنَحْرٍ آخَرَ وَلَا يَنْحَرُوا حَتَّی يَنْحَرَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ

Jabir b. 'Abdullah reported: Allah's Messenger ( ‌صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ‌ ) led us in the 'Id prayer in Medina on the Day of Sacrifice. Some persons slaughtered their animals ahead of him under the impression that Allah's Apostle ( ‌صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ‌ ) had-already offered sacrifice. Thereupon Allah's Apostle ( ‌صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ‌ ) said: Those who had slaughtered their animals ahead of him should slaughter the other ones in their stead. And they should not sacrifice the animal before Allah's Messenger ( ‌صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ‌ ) had sacrificed (his animal)

Uqba b. 'Amir reported that Allah's Messenger ( ‌صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ‌ ) gave the gifts of goats to be distributed amongst his Companions. They sacrificed them, but a lamb of one year of age was left. (Someone) made a mention of that to the Messenger of Allah ( ‌صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ‌ ), whereupon he said: You sacrifice it

حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَکْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ هَارُونَ عَنْ هِشَامٍ الدَّسْتَوَائِيِّ عَنْ يَحْيَی بْنِ أَبِي کَثِيرٍ عَنْ بَعْجَةَ الْجُهَنِيِّ عَنْ عُقْبَةَ بْنِ عَامِرٍ الْجُهَنِيِّ قَالَ قَسَمَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِينَا ضَحَايَا فَأَصَابَنِي جَذَعٌ فَقُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنَّهُ أَصَابَنِي جَذَعٌ فَقَالَ ضَحِّ بِهِ

Amir al-Juhani reported: Allah's Messenger ( ‌صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ‌ ) distributed sacrificial animals (amongst us for sacrificing them on 'Id al-Adha). So we sacrificed them. There fell to my lot a lamb of less than one year I said: Allah's Messenger, there has fallen to my lot a lamb (Jadha'a), whereupon he said: Sacrifice that.

و حَدَّثَنِي عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ الدَّارِمِيُّ حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَی يَعْنِي ابْنَ حَسَّانَ أَخْبَرَنَا مُعَاوِيَةُ وَهُوَ ابْنُ سَلَّامٍ حَدَّثَنِي يَحْيَی بْنُ أَبِي کَثِيرٍ أَخْبَرَنِي بَعْجَةُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ أَنَّ عُقْبَةَ بْنَ عَامِرٍ الْجُهَنِيَّ أَخْبَرَهُ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَسَمَ ضَحَايَا بَيْنَ أَصْحَابِهِ بِمِثْلِ مَعْنَاهُ

This hadith has been transmitted on the authority of 'Uqba b. 'Amir al-Juhan with a slight change of wording.

حَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عَوَانَةَ عَنْ قَتَادَةَ عَنْ أَنَسٍ قَالَ ضَحَّی النَّبِيُّ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِکَبْشَيْنِ أَمْلَحَيْنِ أَقْرَنَيْنِ ذَبَحَهُمَا بِيَدِهِ وَسَمَّی وَکَبَّرَ وَوَضَعَ رِجْلَهُ عَلَی صِفَاحِهِمَا

Anas reported that Allah's Messenger ( ‌صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ‌ ) sacrificed with his own hands two horned rams which were white with black markings reciting the name of Allah and glorifying Him (saying Allah-o-Akbar). He placed his foot on their sides (while sacrificing).

حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَی بْنُ يَحْيَی أَخْبَرَنَا وَکِيعٌ عَنْ شُعْبَةَ عَنْ قَتَادَةَ عَنْ أَنَسٍ قَالَ ضَحَّی رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِکَبْشَيْنِ أَمْلَحَيْنِ أَقْرَنَيْنِ قَالَ وَرَأَيْتُهُ يَذْبَحُهُمَا بِيَدِهِ وَرَأَيْتُهُ وَاضِعًا قَدَمَهُ عَلَی صِفَاحِهِمَا قَالَ وَسَمَّی وَکَبَّرَ

Anas reported that Allah's Messenger ( ‌صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ‌ ) sacrificed two horned rams of white colour with black markings over them. He also stated: I saw him sacrificing them with his own hand and saw him placing his foot on their sides, and recited the name of Allah and Glorified Him.

حَدَّثَنَا عُثْمَانُ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ وَإِسْحَقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ وَاللَّفْظُ لِعُثْمَانَ قَالَ إِسْحَقُ أَخْبَرَنَا و قَالَ عُثْمَانُ حَدَّثَنَا جَرِيرٌ عَنْ مَنْصُورٍ عَنْ سَعْدِ بْنِ عُبَيْدَةَ حَدَّثَنِي الْبَرَائُ بْنُ عَازِبٍ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ إِذَا أَخَذْتَ مَضْجَعَکَ فَتَوَضَّأْ وُضُوئَکَ لِلصَّلَاةِ ثُمَّ اضْطَجِعْ عَلَی شِقِّکَ الْأَيْمَنِ ثُمَّ قُلْ اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْلَمْتُ وَجْهِي إِلَيْکَ وَفَوَّضْتُ أَمْرِي إِلَيْکَ وَأَلْجَأْتُ ظَهْرِي إِلَيْکَ رَغْبَةً وَرَهْبَةً إِلَيْکَ لَا مَلْجَأَ وَلَا مَنْجَا مِنْکَ إِلَّا إِلَيْکَ آمَنْتُ بِکِتَابِکَ الَّذِي أَنْزَلْتَ وَبِنَبِيِّکَ الَّذِي أَرْسَلْتَ وَاجْعَلْهُنَّ مِنْ آخِرِ کَلَامِکَ فَإِنْ مُتَّ مِنْ لَيْلَتِکَ مُتَّ وَأَنْتَ عَلَی الْفِطْرَةِ قَالَ فَرَدَّدْتُهُنَّ لِأَسْتَذْکِرَهُنَّ فَقُلْتُ آمَنْتُ بِرَسُولِکَ الَّذِي أَرْسَلْتَ قَالَ قُلْ آمَنْتُ بِنَبِيِّکَ الَّذِي أَرْسَلْتَ

Al-Bara' b. 'Azib reported that Allah's, Messenger (may peace be upon said: When you go to bed, perform ablution as is done for prayer; then lie down pn the right side and recite: O Allah, I turn my face towards Thee and entrust my affair to Thee. I retreat unto Thee for protection with hope in Thee and fear of Thee. There is no resort and no deliverer (from hardship) but Thou only. I affirm my faith in Thine books which Thou revealed and in Thine Apostles whom Thou sent. Make this as the last word of yours (when you go to sleep) and in case you die during that night, you would die upon Fitra (upon Islam). And as I repeated these words in order to commit them to memory, I said: I affirm my faith in Thy Messenger (Rasul) whom Thou sent. He said: Say: I affirm my faith in the Apostle (Nabi) whom Thou sent.

و حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ نُمَيْرٍ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ يَعْنِي ابْنَ إِدْرِيسَ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ حُصَيْنًا عَنْ سَعْدِ بْنِ عُبَيْدَةَ عَنْ الْبَرَائِ بْنِ عَازِبٍ عَنْ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِهَذَا الْحَدِيثِ غَيْرَ أَنَّ مَنْصُورًا أَتَمُّ حَدِيثًا وَزَادَ فِي حَدِيثِ حُصَيْنٍ وَإِنْ أَصْبَحَ أَصَابَ خَيْرًا

This hadith has been transmitted on the authority of al-Bara' b. 'Azib with a slight variation of wording and there is this addition in the hadith transmitted on the authority of Husain: In case you get up in the morning, you will get up with bliss.

حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّی حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو دَاوُدَ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ ح و حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ بَشَّارٍ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ وَأَبُو دَاوُدَ قَالَا حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ مُرَّةَ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ سَعْدَ بْنَ عُبَيْدَةَ يُحَدِّثُ عَنْ الْبَرَائِ بْنِ عَازِبٍ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَمَرَ رَجُلًا إِذَا أَخَذَ مَضْجَعَهُ مِنْ اللَّيْلِ أَنْ يَقُولَ اللَّهُمَّ أَسْلَمْتُ نَفْسِي إِلَيْکَ وَوَجَّهْتُ وَجْهِي إِلَيْکَ وَأَلْجَأْتُ ظَهْرِي إِلَيْکَ وَفَوَّضْتُ أَمْرِي إِلَيْکَ رَغْبَةً وَرَهْبَةً إِلَيْکَ لَا مَلْجَأَ وَلَا مَنْجَا مِنْکَ إِلَّا إِلَيْکَ آمَنْتُ بِکِتَابِکَ الَّذِي أَنْزَلْتَ وَبِرَسُولِکَ الَّذِي أَرْسَلْتَ فَإِنْ مَاتَ مَاتَ عَلَی الْفِطْرَةِ وَلَمْ يَذْکُرْ ابْنُ بَشَّارٍ فِي حَدِيثِهِ مِنْ اللَّيْلِ

Al-Bara' b. 'Azib reported that Allah's Messenger (in may peace be upon him) commanded a person (in these words): When you go to bed during night, you should say: O Allah, I surrender myself to Thee and entrust my affair to Thee, with hope in Thee and fear of Thee. There is no resort and no deliverer (from hardship but Thou). I affirm my faith in the Book which Thou revealed and in the Messengers whom Thou sent. If you die in this state you would die on Fitra, and Ibn Bashshdr did not make a mention of night in this hadith.

This hadith has been transmitted on the authority of al-Bara' b. 'Azib that Allah's Messenger ( ‌صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ‌ ) said to a person: O, so and so, as you go to your bed; the rest of the hadith is the same but with this variation of wording that he said: Thine Apostle whom Thou sent. If you die that night you would die on Fitra and if you get up in the morning you would get up with a bliss.
