أَخْبَرَنَا عَمْرُو بْنُ عَلِيٍّ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا هُشَيْمٌ عَنْ الْحَجَّاجِ بْنِ أَبِي زَيْنَبَ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ أَبَا عُثْمَانَ يُحَدِّثُ عَنْ ابْنِ مَسْعُودٍ قَالَ رَآنِيَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَقَدْ وَضَعْتُ شِمَالِي عَلَی يَمِينِي فِي الصَّلَاةِ فَأَخَذَ بِيَمِينِي فَوَضَعَهَا عَلَی شِمَالِي

it was narrated that Al- bin Abi Zainab said: “I heard Abu ‘Uthman narrate that Ibn Mas’ud said: ‘The Prophet ~ saw me when I had placed my left hand on my right in prayer. He took hold of my right hand and placed it on my left.” (Hasan)

أَخْبَرَنَا سُوَيْدُ بْنُ نَصْرٍ قَالَ أَنْبَأَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ الْمُبَارَکِ عَنْ زَائِدَةَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا عَاصِمُ بْنُ کُلَيْبٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي أَنَّ وَائِلَ بْنَ حُجْرٍ أَخْبَرَهُ قَالَ قُلْتُ لَأَنْظُرَنَّ إِلَی صَلَاةِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ کَيْفَ يُصَلِّي فَنَظَرْتُ إِلَيْهِ فَقَامَ فَکَبَّرَ وَرَفَعَ يَدَيْهِ حَتَّی حَاذَتَا بِأُذُنَيْهِ ثُمَّ وَضَعَ يَدَهُ الْيُمْنَی عَلَی کَفِّهِ الْيُسْرَی وَالرُّسْغِ وَالسَّاعِدِ فَلَمَّا أَرَادَ أَنْ يَرْکَعَ رَفَعَ يَدَيْهِ مِثْلَهَا قَالَ وَوَضَعَ يَدَيْهِ عَلَی رُکْبَتَيْهِ ثُمَّ لَمَّا رَفَعَ رَأْسَهُ رَفَعَ يَدَيْهِ مِثْلَهَا ثُمَّ سَجَدَ فَجَعَلَ کَفَّيْهِ بِحِذَائِ أُذُنَيْهِ ثُمَّ قَعَدَ وَافْتَرَشَ رِجْلَهُ الْيُسْرَی وَوَضَعَ کَفَّهُ الْيُسْرَی عَلَی فَخِذِهِ وَرُکْبَتِهِ الْيُسْرَی وَجَعَلَ حَدَّ مِرْفَقِهِ الْأَيْمَنِ عَلَی فَخِذِهِ الْيُمْنَی ثُمَّ قَبَضَ اثْنَتَيْنِ مِنْ أَصَابِعِهِ وَحَلَّقَ حَلْقَةً ثُمَّ رَفَعَ إِصْبَعَهُ فَرَأَيْتُهُ يُحَرِّکُهَا يَدْعُو بِهَا

Wa’il bin Hujr said: “I said: am going to watch how the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم prays.’ So watched him and he stood and said the Takbir, and raised his hands until they were in level with his ears, then he placed his right hand over his left hand, wrist and lower forearm. When he wanted to bow he raised his hands likewise, and placed his hands on his knees. When he raised his head, he raised his hands likewise. Then he prostrated and placed his hands in level with his ears. Then he sat up and placed his left leg under him; he put his left hand on his left thigh and knee, and he put the edge of his right elbow on his right thigh, then he held two of his fingers together and made a circle, and raised his forefinger, and I saw him moving it and supplicating with it.” (Sahih).

أَخْبَرَنَا إِسْحَقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ قَالَ أَنْبَأَنَا جَرِيرٌ عَنْ هِشَامٍ ح و أَخْبَرَنَا سُوَيْدُ بْنُ نَصْرٍ قَالَ أَنْبَأَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ الْمُبَارَکِ وَاللَّفْظُ لَهُ عَنْ هِشَامٍ عَنْ ابْنِ سِيرِينَ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ نَهَی أَنْ يُصَلِّيَ الرَّجُلُ مُخْتَصِرًا

it was narrated from Abu Hurairah that the Prophet صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم forbade praying with one’s hands on one’s waist. (Sahih)

أَخْبَرَنَا حُمَيْدُ بْنُ مَسْعَدَةَ عَنْ سُفْيَانَ بْنِ حَبِيبٍ عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ زِيَادٍ عَنْ زِيَادِ بْنِ صُبَيْحٍ قَالَ صَلَّيْتُ إِلَی جَنْبِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ فَوَضَعْتُ يَدِي عَلَی خَصْرِي فَقَالَ لِي هَکَذَا ضَرْبَةً بِيَدِهِ فَلَمَّا صَلَّيْتُ قُلْتُ لِرَجُلٍ مَنْ هَذَا قَالَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عُمَرَ قُلْتُ يَا أَبَا عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ مَا رَابَکَ مِنِّي قَالَ إِنَّ هَذَا الصَّلْبُ وَإِنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ نَهَانَا عَنْهُ

It was narrated that Ziyád bin Subaih said: “I prayed beside Ibn ‘Umar and put my hand on my waist, and he did this to me — knocked it with his hand. When I had finished praying I said to a man: ‘Who is this?’ He said: “Abdullah bin ‘Umar.’ I said: ‘Abu ‘Abdur-Rahman, why are you angry with me?’ He said: ‘This is the posture of crucifixion, and the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم forbade us to do this.” (Sahih)

إِنَّ هَذَا الصَّلْبُ وَإِنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ نَهَانَا عَنْهُ ← عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عُمَرَ قُلْتُ يَا أَبَا عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ مَا رَابَکَ مِنِّي ← لِي هَکَذَا ضَرْبَةً بِيَدِهِ فَلَمَّا صَلَّيْتُ قُلْتُ لِرَجُلٍ مَنْ هَذَا ← صَلَّيْتُ إِلَی جَنْبِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ فَوَضَعْتُ يَدِي عَلَی خَصْرِي ← زِيَادِ بْنِ صُبَيْحٍ ← سَعِيدِ بْنِ زِيَادٍ ← سُفْيَانُ بْنُ حَبِيبٍ، ← حُمَيْدُ بْنُ مَسْعَدَةَ

أَخْبَرَنَا عَمْرُو بْنُ عَلِيٍّ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَی عَنْ سُفْيَانَ بْنِ سَعِيدٍ الثَّوْرِيِّ عَنْ مَيْسَرَةَ عَنْ الْمِنْهَالِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو عَنْ أَبِي عُبَيْدَةَ أَنَّ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ رَأَی رَجُلًا يُصَلِّي قَدْ صَفَّ بَيْنَ قَدَمَيْهِ فَقَالَ خَالَفَ السُّنَّةَ وَلَوْ رَاوَحَ بَيْنَهُمَا کَانَ أَفْضَلَ

It was narrated from Abu ‘Ubaidah that ‘Abdullah saw a man who was praying with his feet together. He said: “He is going against the Sunnah; if he shifted his weight from one to the other that would be better.” (Da’if)

أَخْبَرَنَا إِسْمَعِيلُ بْنُ مَسْعُودٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا خَالِدٌ عَنْ شُعْبَةَ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنِي مَيْسَرَةُ بْنُ حَبِيبٍ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ الْمِنْهَالَ بْنَ عَمْرٍو يُحَدِّثُ عَنْ أَبِي عُبَيْدَةَ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ أَنَّهُ رَأَی رَجُلًا يُصَلِّي قَدْ صَفَّ بَيْنَ قَدَمَيْهِ فَقَالَ أَخْطَأَ السُّنَّةَ وَلَوْ رَاوَحَ بَيْنَهُمَا کَانَ أَعْجَبَ إِلَيَّ

It was narrated from ‘Abdullah that he saw a man praying with his feet together. He said: “He is not following the Sunnah. If he were to shift his weight from one to the other I would like that better.” (Da’if)

«أَخْطَأَ السَّنَةَ، وَلَوْ رَاوَحَ بَيْنَهُمَا كَانَ أَعْجَبَ إِلَيَّ» ← عَبْدِ اللَّهِ أَنَّهُ رَأَی رَجُلًا يُصَلِّي قَدْ صَفَّ بَيْنَ قَدَمَيْهِ ← أَبِي عُبَيْدَةَ ← الْمِنْهَالِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو ← مَيْسَرَةَ بْنِ حَبِيبٍ، ← شُعْبَةُ، ← خَالِدٌ، ← إِسْمَعِيلُ بْنُ مَسْعُودٍ

It was narrated from Abu Hurairah that the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم used to pause briefly when he had started to pray.(Sahih)

أَخْبَرَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ حُجْرٍ قَالَ أَنْبَأَنَا جَرِيرٌ عَنْ عُمَارَةَ بْنِ الْقَعْقَاعِ عَنْ أَبِي زُرْعَةَ بْنِ عَمْرِو بْنِ جَرِيرٍ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ قَالَ کَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِذَا افْتَتَحَ الصَّلَاةَ سَکَتَ هُنَيْهَةً فَقُلْتُ بِأَبِي أَنْتَ وَأُمِّي يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ مَا تَقُولُ فِي سُکُوتِکَ بَيْنَ التَّکْبِيرِ وَالْقِرَائَةِ قَالَ أَقُولُ اللَّهُمَّ بَاعِدْ بَيْنِي وَبَيْنَ خَطَايَايَ کَمَا بَاعَدْتَ بَيْنَ الْمَشْرِقِ وَالْمَغْرِبِ اللَّهُمَّ نَقِّنِي مِنْ خَطَايَايَ کَمَا يُنَقَّی الثَّوْبُ الْأَبْيَضُ مِنْ الدَّنَسِ اللَّهُمَّ اغْسِلْنِي مِنْ خَطَايَايَ بِالْمَائِ وَالثَّلْجِ وَالْبَرَدِ

It was narrated that Abu Hurairah said: “When the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم started to pray he would pause briefly. I said: ‘May my father and mother be ransomed for you, Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم, what do you say when you pause briefly between the Takbir and recitation?’ He said: ‘I say:(Allah, put a great distance between me and my sins, as great as the distance You have made between the East and the West; Allah, cleanse me of my sins as a white garment is cleansed from filth; Allah, wash away my sins with snow and water and hail).” (Sahih)

أَخْبَرَنَا عَمْرُو بْنُ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ سَعِيدٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا شُرَيْحُ بْنُ يَزِيدَ الْحَضْرَمِيُّ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنِي شُعَيْبُ بْنُ أَبِي حَمْزَةَ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُنْکَدِرِ عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ قَالَ کَانَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِذَا اسْتَفْتَحَ الصَّلَاةَ کَبَّرَ ثُمَّ قَالَ إِنَّ صَلَاتِي وَنُسُکِي وَمَحْيَايَ وَمَمَاتِي لِلَّهِ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ لَا شَرِيکَ لَهُ وَبِذَلِکَ أُمِرْتُ وَأَنَا مِنْ الْمُسْلِمِينَ اللَّهُمَّ اهْدِنِي لِأَحْسَنِ الْأَعْمَالِ وَأَحْسَنِ الْأَخْلَاقِ لَا يَهْدِي لِأَحْسَنِهَا إِلَّا أَنْتَ وَقِنِي سَيِّئَ الْأَعْمَالِ وَسَيِّئَ الْأَخْلَاقِ لَا يَقِي سَيِّئَهَا إِلَّا أَنْتَ

It was narrated that Jabir bin ‘Abdullah said: “When the Prophet ~ started to pray, he would say the Takbir, then say: (Indeed, my alah (prayer), my sacrifice, my living, and my dying are for Allah, the Lord of all that exists. He has no partner. And of this I have been commanded, and I am one of the Muslims. Allah, guide me to the best of deeds and the best of manners, for none can guide to the best of them but You. And protect me from bad deeds and bad manners, for none can protect against them but You.)” (Sahih).

أَخْبَرَنَا عَمْرُو بْنُ عَلِيٍّ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ مَهْدِيٍّ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْعَزِيزِ بْنُ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي عَمِّي الْمَاجِشُونُ بْنُ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ الْأَعْرَجِ عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي رَافِعٍ عَنْ عَلِيٍّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ کَانَ إِذَا اسْتَفْتَحَ الصَّلَاةَ کَبَّرَ ثُمَّ قَالَ وَجَّهْتُ وَجْهِيَ لِلَّذِي فَطَرَ السَّمَوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضَ حَنِيفًا وَمَا أَنَا مِنْ الْمُشْرِکِينَ إِنَّ صَلَاتِي وَنُسُکِي وَمَحْيَايَ وَمَمَاتِي لِلَّهِ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ لَا شَرِيکَ لَهُ وَبِذَلِکَ أُمِرْتُ وَأَنَا مِنْ الْمُسْلِمِينَ اللَّهُمَّ أَنْتَ الْمَلِکُ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا أَنْتَ أَنَا عَبْدُکَ ظَلَمْتُ نَفْسِي وَاعْتَرَفْتُ بِذَنْبِي فَاغْفِرْ لِي ذُنُوبِي جَمِيعًا لَا يَغْفِرُ الذُّنُوبَ إِلَّا أَنْتَ وَاهْدِنِي لِأَحْسَنِ الْأَخْلَاقِ لَا يَهْدِي لِأَحْسَنِهَا إِلَّا أَنْتَ وَاصْرِفْ عَنِّي سَيِّئَهَا لَا يَصْرِفُ عَنِّي سَيِّئَهَا إِلَّا أَنْتَ لَبَّيْکَ وَسَعْدَيْکَ وَالْخَيْرُ کُلُّهُ فِي يَدَيْکَ وَالشَّرُّ لَيْسَ إِلَيْکَ أَنَا بِکَ وَإِلَيْکَ تَبَارَکْتَ وَتَعَالَيْتَ أَسْتَغْفِرُکَ وَأَتُوبُ إِلَيْکَ

It was narrated from ‘Ali may Allah be pleased with him, that the when the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم started to pray, he would say Takbir, then say: (Verily, I have turned my face toward Him Who has created the heavens and the Earth UanIfa (worshipping none but Allah Alone), and I am not of the idolaters’. Verily, my Salah, my sacrifice, my living, and my dying are for Allah, the Lord of the all that exists. He has no partner. And of this I have been commanded, and I am one of the Muslims. Allah, You are the Sovereign and there is none worthy of worship but You. I am Your slave, I have wronged myself and I acknowledge my sin. Forgive me all my sins for no one forgives sins but You. Guide me to the best of manners for none can guide to the best of them but You. Protect me from bad manners for none can protect against them but You. I am at Your service, all goodness is in Your hands, and evil is not to be attributed to You. I rely on You and turn to You, blessed and exalted are You, I seek Your forgiveness and repent to You.” (Sahih)

أَخْبَرَنَا يَحْيَی بْنُ عُثْمَانَ الْحِمْصِيُّ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ حِمْيَرٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا شُعَيْبُ بْنُ أَبِي حَمْزَةَ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ الْمُنْکَدِرِ وَذَکَرَ آخَرَ قَبْلَهُ عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ هُرْمُزَ الْأَعْرَجِ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ مَسْلَمَةَ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ کَانَ إِذَا قَامَ يُصَلِّي تَطَوُّعًا قَالَ اللَّهُ أَکْبَرُ وَجَّهْتُ وَجْهِيَ لِلَّذِي فَطَرَ السَّمَوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضَ حَنِيفًا مُسْلِمًا وَمَا أَنَا مِنْ الْمُشْرِکِينَ إِنَّ صَلَاتِي وَنُسُکِي وَمَحْيَايَ وَمَمَاتِي لِلَّهِ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ لَا شَرِيکَ لَهُ وَبِذَلِکَ أُمِرْتُ وَأَنَا أَوَّلُ الْمُسْلِمِينَ اللَّهُمَّ أَنْتَ الْمَلِکُ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا أَنْتَ سُبْحَانَکَ وَبِحَمْدِکَ ثُمَّ يَقْرَأُ

It was narrated from Muhammad bin Maslamah that when the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم stood to offer a voluntary prayer he would say: (Allah is Most Great. Verily, I have turned my face toward Him Who has created the heavens and the Earth Hanifa (worshipping none but Allah alone), as a Muslim, and I am not of the idolators. Verily, my Salah, my sacrifice, my living, and my dying are for Allah, the Lord of the all that exists. He has no partner. And of this I have been commanded, and I am the first of the Muslims Allah, You are the Sovereign, there is none worthy of worship but You, glory and praise be to You.)” Then he would recite. (Sahih)

أَخْبَرَنَا عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ فَضَالَةَ بْنِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ قَالَ أَنْبَأَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ قَالَ أَنْبَأَنَا جَعْفَرُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ عَلِيٍّ عَنْ أَبِي الْمُتَوَکِّلِ عَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ کَانَ إِذَا افْتَتَحَ الصَّلَاةَ قَالَ سُبْحَانَکَ اللَّهُمَّ وَبِحَمْدِکَ تَبَارَکَ اسْمُکَ وَتَعَالَی جَدُّکَ وَلَا إِلَهَ غَيْرُکَ

It was narrated from Abu Saeed that when the Prophet صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم started to pray he would say: Subhanakallahumma, wa bihamdika tabarakasmuka wa ta ‘ala jadduka wa lailaha ghairuk (Glory and praise be to You, Allah. Blessed be Your name and exalted be Your majesty, there is none worthy of worship except You.)” (Hasan)
