أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ وَالْحَارِثُ بْنُ مِسْکِينٍ قِرَائَةً عَلَيْهِ وَأَنَا أَسْمَعُ وَاللَّفْظُ لَهُ عَنْ ابْنِ الْقَاسِمِ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي مَالِکٌ عَنْ نَافِعٍ وَعَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ دِينَارٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ أَنَّ رَجُلًا سَأَلَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَنْ صَلَاةِ اللَّيْلِ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ صَلَاةُ اللَّيْلِ مَثْنَی مَثْنَی فَإِذَا خَشِيَ أَحَدُکُمْ الصُّبْحَ صَلَّی رَکْعَةً وَاحِدَةً تُوتِرُ لَهُ مَا قَدْ صَلَّی

It was narrated from ‘Abdullah bin ‘Umar that a man asked the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم about prayer at night and the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم said: “Prayer at night is two by two, then if one of you fears that dawn will break, pray one Rak’ah to make the total number that he prayed odd.” (Sahih)

أَخْبَرَنَا عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ فَضَالَةَ بْنِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدٌ يَعْنِي ابْنَ الْمُبَارَکِ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا مُعَاوِيَةُ وَهُوَ ابْنُ سَلَّامٍ عَنْ يَحْيَی بْنِ أَبِي کَثِيرٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو سَلَمَةَ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ وَنَافِعٌ عَنْ ابْنِ عُمَرَ عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنَّهُ سَمِعَهُ يَقُولُ صَلَاةُ اللَّيْلِ رَکْعَتَيْنِ رَکْعَتَيْنِ فَإِذَا خِفْتُمْ الصُّبْحَ فَأَوْتِرُوا بِوَاحِدَةٍ

It was narrated from Ibn ‘Umar that he heard the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم say: “Prayer at night is two Rak’ahs by two Rak’ahs, then when you fear that dawn will break, pray Witr with one Rak’ah.”(Sahih).

أَخْبَرَنَا إِسْحَقُ بْنُ مَنْصُورٍ قَالَ أَنْبَأَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا مَالِکٌ عَنْ الزُّهْرِيِّ عَنْ عُرْوَةَ عَنْ عَائِشَةَ أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ کَانَ يُصَلِّي مِنْ اللَّيْلِ إِحْدَی عَشْرَةَ رَکْعَةً يُوتِرُ مِنْهَا بِوَاحِدَةٍ ثُمَّ يَضْطَجِعُ عَلَی شِقِّهِ الْأَيْمَنِ

It was narrated from ‘Aishah that the Prophet صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم used to pray eleven Rak’ahs at night, ending them with one Rak’ah of Witr, then he would lie down on his right side. (Sahih)

It was narrated from Abu Salamah bin ‘Abdur-Rahman that he asked ‘Aishah, the Mother of the Believers, about how the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم used to pray in Ramadan. She said: “The Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم did not pray more than eleven Rak’ahs during Ramadan or at any other time. He would pray four, and do not ask how beautiful or how long they were. Then he would pray four, and do not ask how beautiful or how long they were. Then he would pray three.” ‘Aishah said: “I said: ‘Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم, do you sleep before you pray Witr?’ He said: ‘‘Aishah, my eyes sleep but my heart does not.” (Sahih).

أَخْبَرَنَا إِسْمَعِيلُ بْنُ مَسْعُودٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا بِشْرُ بْنُ الْمُفَضَّلِ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ عَنْ قَتَادَةَ عَنْ زُرَارَةَ بْنِ أَوْفَی عَنْ سَعْدِ بْنِ هِشَامٍ أَنَّ عَائِشَةَ حَدَّثَتْهُ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ کَانَ لَا يُسَلِّمُ فِي رَکْعَتَيْ الْوِتْرِ

It was narrated from Saad bin Hisham, that ‘Aishah told him: “The Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم would not say the Taslimfor two Rak’ahs during Witr.” (Da’if)

أَخْبَرَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ مَيْمُونٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا مَخْلَدُ بْنُ يَزِيدَ عَنْ سُفْيَانَ عَنْ زُبَيْدٍ عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ أَبْزَی عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ أُبَيِّ بْنِ کَعْبٍ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ کَانَ يُوتِرُ بِثَلَاثِ رَکَعَاتٍ کَانَ يَقْرَأُ فِي الْأُولَی بِسَبِّحْ اسْمَ رَبِّکَ الْأَعْلَی وَفِي الثَّانِيَةِ بِقُلْ يَا أَيُّهَا الْکَافِرُونَ وَفِي الثَّالِثَةِ بِقُلْ هُوَ اللَّهُ أَحَدٌ وَيَقْنُتُ قَبْلَ الرُّکُوعِ فَإِذَا فَرَغَ قَالَ عِنْدَ فَرَاغِهِ سُبْحَانَ الْمَلِکِ الْقُدُّوسِ ثَلَاثَ مَرَّاتٍ يُطِيلُ فِي آخِرِهِنَّ

It was narrated from Ubayy bin Ka’b that the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم used to pray Witr with three Rak’ahs. In the first he would recite: “Glorify the Name of your Lord, the Most High” in the second: “Say: O you disbelievers!”; and in the third: “Say: He is Allah, (the) One”. And he would say the Qunat before bowing, and when he finished he would say: Sub Malikil-Quddus (Glory be to the Sovereign, the Most Holy) three times, elongating the words the last time. (Sahih)

It was narrated that Ubayy bin Ka’b said: “The Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم used to recite: “Glorify the Name of your Lord, the Most High;” in Witr; in the second Rak’ah he would recite: “Say: you disbelievers!”; and in the third “Say: He is Allah, (the) One”. And he only said the Taslimat the end, and he would say – meaning after the Taslim: ‘Subt (Glory be to the Sovereign, the Most Holy)’ three times.” (Da’if)

أَخْبَرَنَا الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ عِيسَی قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو أُسَامَةَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا زَکَرِيَّا بْنُ أَبِي زَائِدَةَ عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَقَ عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ عَنْ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ کَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يُوتِرُ بِثَلَاثٍ يَقْرَأُ فِي الْأُولَی بِسَبِّحْ اسْمَ رَبِّکَ الْأَعْلَی وَفِي الثَّانِيَةِ بِقُلْ يَا أَيُّهَا الْکَافِرُونَ وَفِي الثَّالِثَةِ بِقُلْ هُوَ اللَّهُ أَحَدٌ أَوْقَفَهُ زُهَيْرٌ

Zakariyyabin Abi Za’idah narrated from Abu Ishaq, from Sa’id bin Jubair, that Ibn ‘Abbas said: “The Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم used to pray Witr with three Rak’ahs. In the first he would recite: “Glorify the Name of your Lord, the Most High;” in the second: “Say: you disbelievers!”; and in the third: “Say: He is Allah, (the) One.” (Sahih) Zuhair narrated it in Mawquif form.

Zuhair narrated from Abu Ishaq, from Saeed bin Jubair, that Ibn ‘Abbas used to pray Wilr with three: (Reciting): “Glorify the Name of your Lord, the Most High;” “Say: you disbelievers!”; and: “Say: He is Allah, (the) One.” (Sahih)

أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ رَافِعٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا مُعَاوِيَةُ بْنُ هِشَامٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ عَنْ حَبِيبِ بْنِ أَبِي ثَابِتٍ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَلِيٍّ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ جَدِّهِ عَنْ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنَّهُ قَامَ مِنْ اللَّيْلِ فَاسْتَنَّ ثُمَّ صَلَّی رَکْعَتَيْنِ ثُمَّ نَامَ ثُمَّ قَامَ فَاسْتَنَّ ثُمَّ تَوَضَّأَ فَصَلَّی رَکْعَتَيْنِ حَتَّی صَلَّی سِتًّا ثُمَّ أَوْتَرَ بِثَلَاثٍ وَصَلَّی رَکْعَتَيْنِ

Sufyan narrated from Habib bin Abi Thabit, from from Muhammad bin ‘All, from his father, from his grandfather, that the Prophet got up at night and cleaned his teeth, then he prayed two Rak’ahs, then he slept. Then he got up and cleaned his teeth, then he performed Wudu’ and prayed two Rak’ahs, until he had prayed six. Then he prayed Witr with three Rak’ahs, and prayed two Rak’ahs. (Sahih)

أَخْبَرَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا حُسَيْنٌ عَنْ زَائِدَةَ عَنْ حُصَيْنٍ عَنْ حَبِيبِ بْنِ أَبِي ثَابِتٍ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَلِيِّ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَبَّاسٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ جَدِّهِ قَالَ کُنْتُ عِنْدَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَامَ فَتَوَضَّأَ وَاسْتَاکَ وَهُوَ يَقْرَأُ هَذِهِ الْآيَةَ حَتَّی فَرَغَ مِنْهَا إِنَّ فِي خَلْقِ السَّمَوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ وَاخْتِلَافِ اللَّيْلِ وَالنَّهَارِ لَآيَاتٍ لِأُولِي الْأَلْبَابِ ثُمَّ صَلَّی رَکْعَتَيْنِ ثُمَّ عَادَ فَنَامَ حَتَّی سَمِعْتُ نَفْخَهُ ثُمَّ قَامَ فَتَوَضَّأَ وَاسْتَاکَ ثُمَّ صَلَّی رَکْعَتَيْنِ ثُمَّ نَامَ ثُمَّ قَامَ فَتَوَضَّأَ وَاسْتَاکَ وَصَلَّی رَکْعَتَيْنِ وَأَوْتَرَ بِثَلَاثٍ

Husain narrated from Habib bin Abi Thabit, from Muhammad bin ‘Ali bin ‘Abdullah bin ‘Abbas, from his father, that his grand father said: “I was with the Prophet li and he got up and performed Wudu’ and cleaned his teeth while reciting this Verse until he finished: ‘Verily, in the creation of the heavens and the Earth, and in the alternation of night and day, there are indeed signs for men of understanding.’ Then he prayed two Rak’ahs, then he went back and slept until I heard him breathing deeply. Then he got up and performed Wudu and cleaned his teeth. Then he prayed two Rak’ahs, then he slept, then he got up and performed Wuصلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم la’ and cleaned his teeth and prayed two Rak’ahs and prayed Witr with three Rakahs.” (Sahih)
