أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بَشَّارٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدٌ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ عَنْ عَلْقَمَةَ بْنِ مَرْثَدٍ عَنْ سَعْدِ بْنِ عُبَيْدَةَ عَنْ الْبَرَائِ بْنِ عَازِبٍ عَنْ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ يُثَبِّتُ اللَّهُ الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا بِالْقَوْلِ الثَّابِتِ فِي الْحَيَاةِ الدُّنْيَا وَفِي الْآخِرَةِ قَالَ نَزَلَتْ فِي عَذَابِ الْقَبْرِ يُقَالُ لَهُ مَنْ رَبُّکَ فَيَقُولُ رَبِّيَ اللَّهُ وَدِينِي دِينُ مُحَمَّدٍ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَذَلِکَ قَوْلُهُ يُثَبِّتُ اللَّهُ الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا بِالْقَوْلِ الثَّابِتِ فِي الْحَيَاةِ الدُّنْيَا وَفِي الْآخِرَةِ

It was narrated from Al Bara’ bin ‘Azib that the Prophet صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم said: “Allah will keep firm those who believe, with the word that stands firm in this world, and in the Hereafterj This was revealed concerning the torment in the grave. It will be said to him (the deceased): ‘Who is your Lord?’ And he will say: ‘My Lord is Allah and my Prophet صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم is Muhammad ‘ That is what is (the meaning of) His saying: Allah will keep firm those who believe, with the word that stands firm in this world, and in the Hereafter.” (Sahih)

أَخْبَرَنَا سُوَيْدُ بْنُ نَصْرٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ عَنْ حُمَيْدٍ عَنْ أَنَسٍ أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ سَمِعَ صَوْتًا مِنْ قَبْرٍ فَقَالَ مَتَی مَاتَ هَذَا قَالُوا مَاتَ فِي الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ فَسُرَّ بِذَلِکَ وَقَالَ لَوْلَا أَنْ لَا تَدَافَنُوا لَدَعَوْتُ اللَّهَ أَنْ يُسْمِعَکُمْ عَذَابَ الْقَبْرِ

It was narrated from Anas that the Prophet صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم heard a sound from a grave and said: “When did this man die?” They said: “He died during the Jahiliyyah.” So he was delighted and said: “Were it not that you would not bury one another, I would have prayed to Allah to make you hear the torment of the grave.” (Sahih)

أَخْبَرَنَا عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَی عَنْ شُعْبَةَ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنِي عَوْنُ بْنُ أَبِي جُحَيْفَةَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ الْبَرَائِ بْنِ عَازِبِ عَنْ أَبِي أَيُّوبَ قَالَ خَرَجَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بَعْدَ مَا غَرَبَتْ الشَّمْسُ فَسَمِعَ صَوْتًا فَقَالَ يَهُودُ تُعَذَّبُ فِي قُبُورِهَا

It was narrated that Abu Ayyub said: “The Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم went out after the sun had set, and heard a sound. He said: ‘(It is) Jews being tormented in their graves.” (Sahih)

It was narrated from Abu rairah that the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم used to say: (Allah, I seek refuge with you from the ‘torment of the grave, and I seek refuge with You from the torment of the Fire, and I seek refuge with You from the trials of life and death, and I seek refuge with You from the trial of the Dajjal).” (Sahih)

It was narrated that Abu Hurairah said: “I heard the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم after that seeking refuge with Allah from the torment of the grave.” (Sahih)

أَخْبَرَنَا سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ دَاوُدَ عَنْ ابْنِ وَهْبٍ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنِي يُونُسُ عَنْ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ أَخْبَرَنِي عُرْوَةُ بْنُ الزُّبَيْرِ أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ أَسْمَائَ بِنْتَ أَبِي بَکْرٍ تَقُولُ قَامَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَذَکَرَ الْفِتْنَةَ الَّتِي يُفْتَنُ بِهَا الْمَرْئُ فِي قَبْرِهِ فَلَمَّا ذَکَرَ ذَلِکَ ضَجَّ الْمُسْلِمُونَ ضَجَّةً حَالَتْ بَيْنِي وَبَيْنَ أَنْ أَفْهَمَ کَلَامَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَلَمَّا سَکَنَتْ ضَجَّتُهُمْ قُلْتُ لِرَجُلٍ قَرِيبٍ مِنِّي أَيْ بَارَکَ اللَّهُ لَکَ مَاذَا قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي آخِرِ قَوْلِهِ قَالَ قَدْ أُوحِيَ إِلَيَّ أَنَّکُمْ تُفْتَنُونَ فِي الْقُبُورِ قَرِيبًا مِنْ فِتْنَةِ الدَّجَّالِ

‘Urwah bin Az-Zubair (narrated) that he heard Asma’ bint Abi Bakr say: “The Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم stood up and mentioned the trial with which a person will be tested in his grave. When he mentioned that the people became restless, which prevented me from understanding what the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم had said. When they settled down, I said to a man who was near me: ‘May Allah bless you, what did the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم hi say at the end?’ He said: ‘It has been revealed to me that you will be tested in your graves with a trial close to that of the Dajjal.” (Sahih)

أَخْبَرَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ عَنْ مَالِکٍ عَنْ أَبِي الزُّبَيْرِ عَنْ طَاوُسٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَبَّاسٍ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ کَانَ يُعَلِّمُهُمْ هَذَا الدُّعَائَ کَمَا يُعَلِّمُهُمْ السُّورَةَ مِنْ الْقُرْآنِ قُولُوا اللَّهُمَّ إِنَّا نَعُوذُ بِکَ مِنْ عَذَابِ جَهَنَّمَ وَأَعُوذُ بِکَ مِنْ عَذَابِ الْقَبْرِ وَأَعُوذُ بِکَ مِنْ فِتْنَةِ الْمَسِيحِ الدَّجَّالِ وَأَعُوذُ بِکَ مِنْ فِتْنَةِ الْمَحْيَا وَالْمَمَاتِ

It was narrated from ‘Abdullah bin ‘Abbas that the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم used to teach them this supplication as he taught them Surahs of the Qur’an:(Allah, I seek refuge with You from the torment of Hell, and I seek refuge with You from the torment of the grave, and I seek refuge with You from the trial of MasIl and I seek refuge with You from the trials of life and death).” (Sahih)

It was narrated that ‘Aishah said: “The Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم came to me and there was a Jewish woman with me who was saying: ‘You will be tested in your graves.’ The Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم got upset and said: ‘Rather the Jews will be tested.” ‘Aishah said: “A few nights later, the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم said: ‘It has been revealed to me that you will be tested in your graves.” ‘Aishah said: “Afterward I heard the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم seeking refuge with Allah from the torment of the grave.” (Sahih)

It was narrated from ‘Aishah that the Prophet صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم used to seek refuge with Allah from the torment of the grave and the trial of the Dajjal, and he said: “You will be tested in your graves.” (Sahih)

أَخْبَرَنَا هَنَّادٌ عَنْ أَبِي مُعَاوِيَةَ عَنْ الْأَعْمَشِ عَنْ شَقِيقٍ عَنْ مَسْرُوقٍ عَنْ عَائِشَةَ دَخَلَتْ يَهُودِيَّةٌ عَلَيْهَا فَاسْتَوْهَبَتْهَا شَيْئًا فَوَهَبَتْ لَهَا عَائِشَةُ فَقَالَتْ أَجَارَکِ اللَّهُ مِنْ عَذَابِ الْقَبْرِ قَالَتْ عَائِشَةُ فَوَقَعَ فِي نَفْسِي مِنْ ذَلِکَ حَتَّی جَائَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَذَکَرْتُ ذَلِکَ لَهُ فَقَالَ إِنَّهُمْ لَيُعَذَّبُونَ فِي قُبُورِهِمْ عَذَابًا تَسْمَعُهُ الْبَهَائِمُ

It was narrated from ‘Aishah that a Jewish woman came to her and asked her to give her something, so ‘Aishah gave her something, and she said: “May Allah protect you from the torment of the grave.” ‘Aishah said: “She made me worried, until the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم came and I mentioned that to him. He said: ‘They are tormented in their graves with a torment that the animals hear.” (Sahih)

أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ قُدَامَةَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا جَرِيرٌ عَنْ مَنْصُورٍ عَنْ أَبِي وَائِلٍ عَنْ مَسْرُوقٍ عَنْ عَائِشَةَ قَالَتْ دَخَلَتْ عَلَيَّ عَجُوزَتَانِ مِنْ عُجُزِ يَهُودِ الْمَدِينَةِ فَقَالَتَا إِنَّ أَهْلَ الْقُبُورِ يُعَذَّبُونَ فِي قُبُورِهِمْ فَکَذَّبْتُهُمَا وَلَمْ أَنْعَمْ أَنْ أُصَدِّقَهُمَا فَخَرَجَتَا وَدَخَلَ عَلَيَّ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنَّ عَجُوزَتَيْنِ مِنْ عُجُزِ يَهُودِ الْمَدِينَةِ قَالَتَا إِنَّ أَهْلَ الْقُبُورِ يُعَذَّبُونَ فِي قُبُورِهِمْ قَالَ صَدَقَتَا إِنَّهُمْ يُعَذَّبُونَ عَذَابًا تَسْمَعُهُ الْبَهَائِمُ کُلُّهَا فَمَا رَأَيْتُهُ صَلَّی صَلَاةً إِلَّا تَعَوَّذَ مِنْ عَذَابِ الْقَبْرِ

It was narrated that ‘Aishah said: “Two of the old Jewish women of Al-Madinah came to me and said: ‘The people of the graves are tormented in their graves.’ But did not believe them, and I did not want to believe them. They left and the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم entered upon me, and I said: ‘Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم, two of the old Jewish women of Al-Madinah said that the people of the graves are tormented in their graves.’ He said: ‘They spoke the truth. They are tormented in a manner that all the animals can hear.’ And I never saw him offer any aiah but he sought refuge with Allah from the torment of the grave.” (Sahih)

أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ قُدَامَةَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا جَرِيرٌ عَنْ مَنْصُورٍ عَنْ مُجَاهِدٍ عَنْ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ مَرَّ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِحَائِطٍ مِنْ حِيطَانِ مَکَّةَ أَوْ الْمَدِينَةِ سَمِعَ صَوْتَ إِنْسَانَيْنِ يُعَذَّبَانِ فِي قُبُورِهِمَا فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يُعَذَّبَانِ وَمَا يُعَذَّبَانِ فِي کَبِيرٍ ثُمَّ قَالَ بَلَی کَانَ أَحَدُهُمَا لَا يَسْتَبْرِئُ مِنْ بَوْلِهِ وَکَانَ الْآخَرُ يَمْشِي بِالنَّمِيمَةِ ثُمَّ دَعَا بِجَرِيدَةٍ فَکَسَرَهَا کِسْرَتَيْنِ فَوَضَعَ عَلَی کُلِّ قَبْرٍ مِنْهُمَا کِسْرَةً فَقِيلَ لَهُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ لِمَ فَعَلْتَ هَذَا قَالَ لَعَلَّهُ أَنْ يُخَفَّفَ عَنْهُمَا مَا لَمْ يَيْبَسَا أَوْ إِلَی أَنْ يَيْبَسَا

The Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم passed by one of the gardens of Makkah or Al-Madinah and heard the sound of two men being tormented in their graves. The Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم said: “They are being punished but they are not being punished for anything that was difficult to avoid.” Then he said: “Indeed, one of them used not to take care to avoid getting urine on his body or clothes, and the other used to walk around Spreading gossip.” Then he called for a palm stalk which he broke in two and placed a piece of it on each grave. It was said to him: “0 Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم, why did you do that?” He said: “May it be reduced for them so long as this does not dry out” or: “until this dries out.” (Sahih)

رَسُولُ اللَّهِ يُعَذَّبَانِ وَمَا يُعَذَّبَانِ فِي کَبِيرٍ ثُمَّ ← صَوْتَ إِنْسَانَيْنِ يُعَذَّبَانِ فِي قُبُورِهِمَا ← مَرَّ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ بِحَائِطٍ مِنْ حِيطَانِ مَکَّةَ أَوْ الْمَدِينَةِ ← ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، ← مُجَاهِدٍ ← مَنْصُورٌ، ← جَرِيرٌ ← مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ قُدَامَةَ،
