أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ الْمُبَارَکِ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَی قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا زُهَيْرٌ عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَقَ قَالَ أَتَيْتُ الْأَسْوَدَ بْنَ يَزِيدَ وَکَانَ لِي أَخًا صَدِيقًا فَقُلْتُ يَا أَبَا عَمْرٍو حَدِّثْنِي مَا حَدَّثَتْکَ بِهِ أُمُّ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ عَنْ صَلَاةِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ قَالَتْ کَانَ يَنَامُ أَوَّلَ اللَّيْلِ وَيُحْيِي آخِرَهُ

It was narrated that Abu Ishaq said: “I came to Al-Aswad bin Yazid, who was a close friend of mine, and said: ‘Abu ‘Amr, tell me what the Mother of the Believers told you about the prayer of the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم He said: She said: ‘He used to sleep for the first part of the night and stay up for the latter part.” (Sahih)

کَانَ يَنَامُ أَوَّلَ اللَّيْلِ وَيُحْيِي آخِرَهُ ← صَلَاةِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ← مَا حَدَّثَتْکَ بِهِ أُمُّ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ ← أَتَيْتُ الْأَسْوَدَ بْنَ يَزِيدَ وَکَانَ لِي أَخًا صَدِيقًا فَقُلْتُ يَا أَبَا عَمْرٍو ← أَبِي إِسْحَقَ ← زُهَيْرٍ ← يَحْيَى ← مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ الْمُبَارَکِ

أَخْبَرَنَا هَارُونُ بْنُ إِسْحَقَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدَةُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ عَنْ سَعِيدٍ عَنْ قَتَادَةَ عَنْ زُرَارَةَ بْنِ أَوْفَی عَنْ سَعْدِ بْنِ هِشَامٍ عَنْ عَائِشَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهَا قَالَتْ لَا أَعْلَمُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَرَأَ الْقُرْآنَ کُلَّهُ فِي لَيْلَةٍ وَلَا قَامَ لَيْلَةً حَتَّی الصَّبَاحَ وَلَا صَامَ شَهْرًا کَامِلًا قَطُّ غَيْرَ رَمَضَانَ

It was narrated that ‘Aishah, may Allah be pleased with her, said: “I do not know that the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم recited the whole Qur’an in one night, or spent a whole night in worship until dawn, or that he ever fasted an entire month apart from Ramadan.” (Sahih)

عَائِشَةَ ← سَعْدِ بْنِ هِشَامٍ ← زُرَارَةَ بْنِ أَوْفَى ← قَتَادَةَ ← سَعِيدٌ، ← عَبْدَةُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ ← هَارُونُ بْنُ إِسْحَقَ

أَخْبَرَنَا شُعَيْبُ بْنُ يُوسُفَ عَنْ يَحْيَی عَنْ هِشَامٍ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنِي أَبِي عَنْ عَائِشَةَ أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ دَخَلَ عَلَيْهَا وَعِنْدَهَا امْرَأَةٌ فَقَالَ مَنْ هَذِهِ قَالَتْ فُلَانَةُ لَا تَنَامُ فَذَکَرَتْ مِنْ صَلَاتِهَا فَقَالَ مَهْ عَلَيْکُمْ بِمَا تُطِيقُونَ فَوَاللَّهِ لَا يَمَلُّ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ حَتَّی تَمَلُّوا وَلَکِنَّ أَحَبَّ الدِّينِ إِلَيْهِ مَا دَاوَمَ عَلَيْهِ صَاحِبُهُ

It was narrated from ‘Aishah that the Prophet صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم came in to her and there was a woman with her.He said: “Who is this?” She said: “So-and-so, and she does not sleep.” And she told him about how she prayed a great deal. He said: “Stop praising her. You should do what you can, for by Allah, Allah never gets tired (of giving reward) until you get tired. And the most beloved of religious actions to him is that in which a person persists.” (Sahih).

عَائِشَةَ ← أَبِي ← هِشَامٍ ← يَحْيَى ← شُعَيْبُ بْنُ يُوسُفَ

أَخْبَرَنَا عِمْرَانُ بْنُ مُوسَی عَنْ عَبْدِ الْوَارِثِ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْعَزِيزِ عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِکٍ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ دَخَلَ الْمَسْجِدَ فَرَأَی حَبْلًا مَمْدُودًا بَيْنَ سَارِيَتَيْنِ فَقَالَ مَا هَذَا الْحَبْلُ فَقَالُوا لِزَيْنَبَ تُصَلِّي فَإِذَا فَتَرَتْ تَعَلَّقَتْ بِهِ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ حُلُّوهُ لِيُصَلِّ أَحَدُکُمْ نَشَاطَهُ فَإِذَا فَتَرَ فَلْيَقْعُدْ

It was narrated from Anas bin Malik that the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم entered the Masjid and saw a rope tied between two pillars. He said: “What is this rope?” They said: “It is for Zainab when she prays; if she gets tired she holds on to it.” The Prophet said: “Untie it. Let anyone of you pray as long as he has energy, and if he gets tired let him sit down.” (Sahih)

اَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِکٍ، ← عَبْدُ الْعَزِيزِ، ← عَبْدُ الْوَارِثِ ← عِمْرَانُ بْنُ مُوسَى

أَخْبَرَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مَنْصُورٍ وَاللَّفْظُ لَهُ عَنْ سُفْيَانَ عَنْ زِيَادِ بْنِ عِلَاقَةَ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ الْمُغِيرَةَ بْنَ شُعْبَةَ يَقُولُ قَامَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ حَتَّی تَوَرَّمَتْ قَدَمَاهُ فَقِيلَ لَهُ قَدْ غَفَرَ اللَّهُ لَکَ مَا تَقَدَّمَ مِنْ ذَنْبِکَ وَمَا تَأَخَّرَ قَالَ أَفَلَا أَکُونُ عَبْدًا شَکُورًا

It was narrated that Ziyad bin ‘Haqah said: “I heard AlMughira bin Shu’bah say: ‘The Prophet صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم stood (in prayer at night) until his feet swelled up, and it was said to him: Allah has forgiven your past and future sins.

الْمُغِيرَةَ بْنَ شُعْبَةَ ← زِيَادِ بْنِ عِلَاقَةَ ← سُفْيَانَ، ← قُتَيْبَةُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مَنْصُورٍ وَاللَّفْظُ لَهُ

أَخْبَرَنَا عَمْرُو بْنُ عَلِيٍّ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا صَالِحُ بْنُ مِهْرَانَ وَکَانَ ثِقَةً قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا النُّعْمَانُ بْنُ عَبْدِ السَّلَامِ عَنْ سُفْيَانَ عَنْ عَاصِمِ بْنِ کُلَيْبٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ قَالَ کَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يُصَلِّي حَتَّی تَزْلَعَ يَعْنِي تَشَقَّقُ قَدَمَاهُ

It was narrated that Abu Hurairah said: “The Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم used to pray until he developed fissures in his feet.” (Sahih).

کَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ يُصَلِّي حَتَّی تَزْلَعَ يَعْنِي تَشَقَّقُ قَدَمَاهُ ← أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، ← أَبِيهِ ← عَاصِمِ بْنِ کُلَیْبٍ، ← سُفْيَانَ، ← النُّعْمَانُ بْنُ عَبْدِ السَّلَامِ ← صَالِحُ بْنُ مِهْرَانَ وَکَانَ ثِقَةً ← عَمْرُو بْنُ عَلِيٍّ،

أَخْبَرَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادٌ عَنْ بُدَيْلٍ وَأَيُّوبُ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ شَقِيقٍ عَنْ عَائِشَةَ قَالَتْ کَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يُصَلِّي لَيْلًا طَوِيلًا فَإِذَا صَلَّی قَائِمًا رَکَعَ قَائِمًا وَإِذَا صَلَّی قَاعِدًا رَکَعَ قَاعِدًا

It was narrated that ‘Aishah said: “The Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم used to pray for a long time at night. If he started to pray standing, he would bow standing and if he started to pray sitting, he would bow sitting.” (Sahih).

أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدَةُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحِيمِ قَالَ أَنْبَأَنَا وَکِيعٌ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي يَزِيدُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ ابْنِ سِيرِينَ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ شَقِيقٍ عَنْ عَائِشَةَ قَالَتْ کَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يُصَلِّي قَائِمًا وَقَاعِدًا فَإِذَا افْتَتَحَ الصَّلَاةَ قَائِمًا رَکَعَ قَائِمًا وَإِذَا افْتَتَحَ الصَّلَاةَ قَاعِدًا رَکَعَ قَاعِدًا

It was narrated that ‘Aishah said: “The Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم used to pray standing and sitting. If he started his prayer standing, he would bow standing, and if he started his prayer sitting, he would bow sitting.” (Sahih).

أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ الْقَاسِمِ عَنْ مَالِکٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ يَزِيدَ وَأَبُو النَّضْرِ عَنْ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ عَنْ عَائِشَةَ أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ کَانَ يُصَلِّي وَهُوَ جَالِسٌ فَيَقْرَأُ وَهُوَ جَالِسٌ فَإِذَا بَقِيَ مِنْ قِرَائَتِهِ قَدْرَ مَا يَکُونُ ثَلَاثِينَ أَوْ أَرْبَعِينَ آيَةً قَامَ فَقَرَأَ وَهُوَ قَائِمٌ ثُمَّ رَکَعَ ثُمَّ سَجَدَ ثُمَّ يَفْعَلُ فِي الرَّکْعَةِ الثَّانِيَةِ مِثْلَ ذَلِکَ

It was narrated from ‘Aishah that the Prophet صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم used to pray when he was sitting. He would recite while sitting, then when there were thirty or forty verses left, he would stand up and recite while standing, then he bowed and prostrated, then he would do likewise in the second Rak’ah. (Sahih).

عَائِشَةَ ← اَبِیْ سَلَمَۃَ ← عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ يَزِيدَ وَأَبُو النَّضْرِ ← مَالِكٍ، ← ابْنُ الْقَاسِمِ ← مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ1،

أَخْبَرَنَا إِسْحَقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ قَالَ أَنْبَأَنَا عِيسَی بْنُ يُونُسَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا هِشَامُ بْنُ عُرْوَةَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ عَائِشَةَ قَالَتْ مَا رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ صَلَّی جَالِسًا حَتَّی دَخَلَ فِي السِّنِّ فَکَانَ يُصَلِّي وَهُوَ جَالِسٌ يَقْرَأُ فَإِذَا غَبَرَ مِنْ السُّورَةِ ثَلَاثُونَ أَوْ أَرْبَعُونَ آيَةً قَامَ فَقَرَأَ بِهَا ثُمَّ رَکَعَ

It was narrated that ‘Aishah said: “I never saw the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم pray sitting down until he grew old. Then he would pray sitting down and when there were thirty or forty verses left, be would stand up and recite them, then bow.” (Sahih)

عَائِشَةَ ← أَبِيهِ ← هِشَامُ بْنُ عُرْوَةَ، ← عِيسَى بْنُ يُونُسَ ← إِسْحَقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ

أَخْبَرَنَا زِيَادُ بْنُ أَيُّوبَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ عُلَيَّةَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا الْوَلِيدُ بْنُ أَبِي هِشَامٍ عَنْ أَبِي بَکْرِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ عَمْرَةَ عَنْ عَائِشَةَ قَالَتْ کَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقْرَأُ وَهُوَ قَاعِدٌ فَإِذَا أَرَادَ أَنْ يَرْکَعَ قَامَ قَدْرَ مَا يَقْرَأُ إِنْسَانٌ أَرْبَعِينَ آيَةً

It was narrated that ‘Aishah said: “The Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم used to recite sitting, and when he wanted to bow he would stand up for as long as it takes a person to recite forty verses.”(Sahih).

أَخْبَرَنَا عَمْرُو بْنُ عَلِيٍّ عَنْ عَبْدِ الْأَعْلَی قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا هِشَامٌ عَنْ الْحَسَنِ عَنْ سَعْدِ بْنِ هِشَامِ بْنِ عَامِرٍ قَالَ قَدِمْتُ الْمَدِينَةَ فَدَخَلْتُ عَلَی عَائِشَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهَا قَالَتْ مَنْ أَنْتَ قُلْتُ أَنَا سَعْدُ بْنُ هِشَامِ بْنِ عَامِرٍ قَالَتْ رَحِمَ اللَّهُ أَبَاکَ قُلْتُ أَخْبِرِينِي عَنْ صَلَاةِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَتْ إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ کَانَ وَکَانَ قُلْتُ أَجَلْ قَالَتْ إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ کَانَ يُصَلِّي بِاللَّيْلِ صَلَاةَ الْعِشَائِ ثُمَّ يَأْوِي إِلَی فِرَاشِهِ فَيَنَامُ فَإِذَا کَانَ جَوْفُ اللَّيْلِ قَامَ إِلَی حَاجَتِهِ وَإِلَی طَهُورِهِ فَتَوَضَّأَ ثُمَّ دَخَلَ الْمَسْجِدَ فَيُصَلِّي ثَمَانِيَ رَکَعَاتٍ يُخَيَّلُ إِلَيَّ أَنَّهُ يُسَوِّي بَيْنَهُنَّ فِي الْقِرَائَةِ وَالرُّکُوعِ وَالسُّجُودِ وَيُوتِرُ بِرَکْعَةٍ ثُمَّ يُصَلِّي رَکْعَتَيْنِ وَهُوَ جَالِسٌ ثُمَّ يَضَعُ جَنْبَهُ فَرُبَّمَا جَائَ بِلَالٌ فَآذَنَهُ بِالصَّلَاةِ قَبْلَ أَنْ يُغْفِيَ وَرُبَّمَا يُغْفِي وَرُبَّمَا شَکَکْتُ أَغْفَی أَوْ لَمْ يُغْفِ حَتَّی يُؤْذِنَهُ بِالصَّلَاةِ فَکَانَتْ تِلْکَ صَلَاةُ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ حَتَّی أَسَنَّ وَلُحِمَ فَذَکَرَتْ مِنْ لَحْمِهِ مَا شَائَ اللَّهُ قَالَتْ وَکَانَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يُصَلِّي بِالنَّاسِ الْعِشَائَ ثُمَّ يَأْوِي إِلَی فِرَاشِهِ فَإِذَا کَانَ جَوْفُ اللَّيْلِ قَامَ إِلَی طَهُورِهِ وَإِلَی حَاجَتِهِ فَتَوَضَّأَ ثُمَّ يَدْخُلُ الْمَسْجِدَ فَيُصَلِّي سِتَّ رَکَعَاتٍ يُخَيَّلُ إِلَيَّ أَنَّهُ يُسَوِّي بَيْنَهُنَّ فِي الْقِرَائَةِ وَالرُّکُوعِ وَالسُّجُودِ ثُمَّ يُوتِرُ بِرَکْعَةٍ ثُمَّ يُصَلِّي رَکْعَتَيْنِ وَهُوَ جَالِسٌ ثُمَّ يَضَعُ جَنْبَهُ وَرُبَّمَا جَائَ بِلَالٌ فَآذَنَهُ بِالصَّلَاةِ قَبْلَ أَنْ يُغْفِيَ وَرُبَّمَا أَغْفَی وَرُبَّمَا شَکَکْتُ أَغْفَی أَمْ لَا حَتَّی يُؤْذِنَهُ بِالصَّلَاةِ قَالَتْ فَمَا زَالَتْ تِلْکَ صَلَاةُ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ

It was narrated that Saad bin Hisham bin ‘Amir said: “I came to Al-Madinah and entered upon ‘Aishah, may Allah be pleased with her. She said: “Who are you?” I said: “I am Saad bin Hisham bin ‘Amir.” She said: “May Allah have mercy on your father.” I said: “Tell me about the prayer of the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم a.” She said: “The Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم did such and such.” I said: “Yes indeed.” She said: “The Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم used to pray ‘Isha’ at night, then he would go to his bed and sleep. In the middle of the night, he would get up to relieve himself and go to his water for purification and perform Wudu Then he went into the Masjid and prayed eight Rak’ahs. I think he made the recitation, bowing and prostration equal in length. Then be prayed one Rak’ah of Witr, then he prayed two Rak’ahs sitting down. Then he lay down on his side. Sometimes Bilal would come and tell him that it was time to pray before he napped, and sometimes he napped. And sometimes I was not sure if he had napped or not before he told him that it was time to pray. This is how the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم used to pray until he grew older and gained weight” — and she mentioned whatever Allah willed about his gaining weight. She said: “And the Prophet used to lead the people in praying Witr, then he would go to his bed. In the middle of the night, he would get up and go to water for purification, and to relieve himself, then he would perform WuduThen he would go into the Masjid and pray six Rak’ahs, and I think he made the recitation, bowing and prostration equal in length. Then he prayed one Rak’ah of Witr, then he prayed two Rak’ahs sitting down. Then he lay down on his side. Sometimes Bilal would come and tell him that it was time to pray before he napped, and sometimes he napped. And sometimes I was not sure if he had napped or not before he told him that it was time to pray.” She said: “And this is how the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم continued to pray.” (Da’if)
