أَخْبَرَنَا إِسْحَقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ قَالَ أَنْبَأَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ قَالَ أَنْبَأَنَا مَعْمَرٌ عَنْ قَتَادَةَ عَنْ أَنَسٍ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَذَلِکَ عِنْدَ السُّحُورِ يَا أَنَسُ إِنِّي أُرِيدُ الصِّيَامَ أَطْعِمْنِي شَيْئًا فَأَتَيْتُهُ بِتَمْرٍ وَإِنَائٍ فِيهِ مَائٌ وَذَلِکَ بَعْدَ مَا أَذَّنَ بِلَالٌ فَقَالَ يَا أَنَسُ انْظُرْ رَجُلًا يَأْکُلْ مَعِي فَدَعَوْتُ زَيْدَ بْنَ ثَابِتٍ فَجَائَ فَقَالَ إِنِّي قَدْ شَرِبْتُ شَرْبَةَ سَوِيقٍ وَأَنَا أُرِيدُ الصِّيَامَ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَأَنَا أُرِيدُ الصِّيَامَ فَتَسَحَّرَ مَعَهُ ثُمَّ قَامَ فَصَلَّی رَکْعَتَيْنِ ثُمَّ خَرَجَ إِلَی الصَّلَاةِ

أَخْبَرَنِي هِلَالُ بْنُ الْعَلَائِ بْنِ هِلَالٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا حُسَيْنُ بْنُ عَيَّاشٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا زُهَيْرٌ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو إِسْحَقَ عَنْ الْبَرَائِ بْنِ عَازِبٍ أَنَّ أَحَدَهُمْ کَانَ إِذَا نَامَ قَبْلَ أَنْ يَتَعَشَّی لَمْ يَحِلَّ لَهُ أَنْ يَأْکُلَ شَيْئًا وَلَا يَشْرَبَ لَيْلَتَهُ وَيَوْمَهُ مِنْ الْغَدِ حَتَّی تَغْرُبَ الشَّمْسُ حَتَّی نَزَلَتْ هَذِهِ الْآيَةُ وَکُلُوا وَاشْرَبُوا إِلَی الْخَيْطِ الْأَسْوَدِ قَالَ وَنَزَلَتْ فِي أَبِي قَيْسِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو أَتَی أَهْلَهُ وَهُوَ صَائِمٌ بَعْدَ الْمَغْرِبِ فَقَالَ هَلْ مِنْ شَيْئٍ فَقَالَتْ امْرَأَتُهُ مَا عِنْدَنَا شَيْئٌ وَلَکِنْ أَخْرُجُ أَلْتَمِسُ لَکَ عَشَائً فَخَرَجَتْ وَوَضَعَ رَأْسَهُ فَنَامَ فَرَجَعَتْ إِلَيْهِ فَوَجَدَتْهُ نَائِمًا وَأَيْقَظَتْهُ فَلَمْ يَطْعَمْ شَيْئًا وَبَاتَ وَأَصْبَحَ صَائِمًا حَتَّی انْتَصَفَ النَّهَارُ فَغُشِيَ عَلَيْهِ وَذَلِکَ قَبْلَ أَنْ تَنْزِلَ هَذِهِ الْآيَةُ فَأَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ فِيهِ

It was narrated that ‘Amr bin Al-’As said: “The Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم said: ‘The difference between our fasting and the fasting of the people of the Book, is eating Sahur”. (Sahih)

أَخْبَرَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ حُجْرٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا جَرِيرٌ عَنْ مُطَرِّفٍ عَنْ الشَّعْبِيِّ عَنْ عَدِيِّ بْنِ حَاتِمٍ أَنَّهُ سَأَلَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَنْ قَوْلِهِ تَعَالَی حَتَّی يَتَبَيَّنَ لَکُمْ الْخَيْطُ الْأَبْيَضُ مِنْ الْخَيْطِ الْأَسْوَدِ قَالَ هُوَ سَوَادُ اللَّيْلِ وَبَيَاضُ النَّهَارِ

It was narrated that Anas said: “The Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم said, at the time of Sahur: O' ‘Anas, I want to fast, so give me something to eat.’ So I brought him some dates and a vessel of water.That was after the Adhan of Bilal.He said:O ‘Anas, find a man to come and eat with me.’ So I called Zaid bin Thabit, who came and said: ‘I drank some Sawiq and I want to fast.’ The Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم : said: ‘I also want to fast.’ So he ate Sahur with him, then he got up and prayed two Rak’ahs, then he went out to the prayer.” (Da’if)

أَخْبَرَنَا عَمْرُو بْنُ عَلِيٍّ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَی قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا التَّيْمِيُّ عَنْ أَبِي عُثْمَانَ عَنْ ابْنِ مَسْعُودٍ عَنْ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ إِنَّ بِلَالًا يُؤَذِّنُ بِلَيْلٍ لِيُنَبِّهَ نَائِمَکُمْ وَيُرْجِعَ قَائِمَکُمْ وَلَيْسَ الْفَجْرُ أَنْ يَقُولَ هَکَذَا وَأَشَارَ بِکَفِّهِ وَلَکِنْ الْفَجْرُ أَنْ يَقُولَ هَکَذَا وَأَشَارَ بِالسَّبَّابَتَيْنِ

It was narrated from Al Bara’ bin ‘Azib that if one of them went to sleep before eating supper, it was not permissible for him to eat or drink anything that night or the following day, until the sun had set. (That continued) until this Verse was revealed: “And eat and drink until the white thread (light) of dawn appears to you distinct from the black thread (darkness of night).” He said: “This was revealed concerning Abu Qais bin ‘Affir who came to his family after aghflb when he was fasting, and said: ‘Is there anything to eat?’ His wife said: ‘No, but I will go out and try to find something for you to eat.’ So she went out, and he lay down and slept. She came back and found him sleeping, so she woke him up, but he did not eat anything. He spent the night fasting and woke up the next day fasting, until he passed out at midday. That was before this Verse was revealed, and Allah revealed it concerning him.” (Sahih)

أَخْبَرَنَا مَحْمُودُ بْنُ غَيْلَانَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو دَاوُدَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ أَنْبَأَنَا سَوَادَةُ بْنُ حَنْظَلَةَ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ سَمُرَةَ يَقُولُ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لَا يَغُرَّنَّکُمْ أَذَانُ بِلَالٍ وَلَا هَذَا الْبَيَاضُ حَتَّی يَنْفَجِرَ الْفَجْرُ هَکَذَا وَهَکَذَا يَعْنِي مُعْتَرِضًا قَالَ أَبُو دَاوُدَ وَبَسَطَ بِيَدَيْهِ يَمِينًا وَشِمَالًا مَادًّا يَدَيْهِ

It was narrated from ‘Adiyy bin Hatim that he asked the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم about the Verse “Until the white thread (light) of dawn appears to you distinct from the black thread (darkness of night).” He said: “It is the blackness of the night and the whiteness of the day.” (Sahih)

أَخْبَرَنَا إِسْحَقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ قَالَ أَنْبَأَنَا الْوَلِيدُ عَنْ الْأَوْزَاعِيِّ عَنْ يَحْيَی عَنْ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ لَا تَقَدَّمُوا قَبْلَ الشَّهْرِ بِصِيَامٍ إِلَّا رَجُلٌ کَانَ يَصُومُ صِيَامًا أَتَی ذَلِکَ الْيَوْمُ عَلَی صِيَامِهِ

It was narrated from Ibn Mas’ud that the Prophet صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم said: “Bilal calls the Adhan at night to awaken those of you who are asleep, and so that those who are praying Qiyam can return. Dawn is not when the light appears like this” — and he gestured with his hand — “rather dawn is when it appears like this” — and he gestured with his two forefingers. (Sahih)

أَخْبَرَنِي عِمْرَانُ بْنُ يَزِيدَ بْنِ خَالِدٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ شُعَيْبٍ قَالَ أَنْبَأَنَا الْأَوْزَاعِيُّ عَنْ يَحْيَی قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو سَلَمَةَ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنِي أَبُو هُرَيْرَةَ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ لَا يَتَقَدَّمَنَّ أَحَدٌ الشَّهْرَ بِيَوْمٍ وَلَا يَوْمَيْنِ إِلَّا أَحَدٌ کَانَ يَصُومُ صِيَامًا قَبْلَهُ فَلْيَصُمْهُ

Samurah said: “The Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم said: ‘Do not be confused by the Adhan of Bilal, or by this whiteness, until dawn appears like this” — meaning horizontally. (One of the narrators) Abu Dawud said: “And he spread out his hands gesturing to the right and left.” (Sahih)

أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْعَلَائِ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو خَالِدٍ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو عَنْ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ عَنْ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لَا تَتَقَدَّمُوا الشَّهْرَ بِصِيَامِ يَوْمٍ أَوْ يَوْمَيْنِ إِلَّا أَنْ يُوَافِقَ ذَلِکَ يَوْمًا کَانَ يَصُومُهُ أَحَدُکُمْ قَالَ أَبُو عَبْد الرَّحْمَنِ هَذَا خَطَأٌ

It was narrated from Abu Hurairah that the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم said: “Do not fast ahead of the month, except for a man who habitually fasts, and that day happens to be one of his regular fasts.” (Sahih)

Abu Hurairah narrated that the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم said: “None should fast one or two days ahead of the month except, someone who had a prior habit for fasting, in which case let him fast.” (Sahih)

It was narrated that Ibn ‘Abbas said: “The Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم said: ‘Do not fast one or tWo days ahead of the month, Unless that happens to be a day that one of you habitually fasts.”Abu ‘Abdur-Rahman (An-Nasa’i) said: This is a mistake. (Sahih).

It was narrated from Abu Salamah that Umm Salamah said: “I never saw the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم fast two consecutive months, but he used to join Sha’ban to Ramadan.”(Sahih)

أَخْبَرَنَا الْقَاسِمُ بْنُ زَکَرِيَّا بْنِ دِينَارٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مُوسَی قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا شَيْبَانُ عَنْ عَاصِمٍ عَنْ زِيَادِ بْنِ قَيْسٍ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ نُقَاتِلُ النَّاسَ حَتَّی يَقُولُوا لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ فَإِذَا قَالُوا لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ حَرُمَتْ عَلَيْنَا دِمَاؤُهُمْ وَأَمْوَالُهُمْ إِلَّا بِحَقِّهَا وَحِسَابُهُمْ عَلَی اللَّهِ

It was narrated from Abu Hurairah that the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم said: “We will fight the people until they say La ilaha illallah. If they say La ilaha illallah then their blood and their wealth become forbidden to us, except for a right that is due, and their reckoning will be with Allah.” (Sahih)
