أَخْبَرَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَی بْنُ آدَمَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا مَالِکُ بْنُ مِغْوَلٍ عَنْ الزُّبَيْرِ بْنِ عَدِيٍّ عَنْ طَلْحَةَ بْنِ مُصَرِّفٍ عَنْ مُرَّةَ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ قَالَ لَمَّا أُسْرِيَ بِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ انْتُهِيَ بِهِ إِلَی سِدْرَةِ الْمُنْتَهَی وَهِيَ فِي السَّمَائِ السَّادِسَةِ وَإِلَيْهَا يَنْتَهِي مَا عُرِجَ بِهِ مِنْ تَحْتِهَا وَإِلَيْهَا يَنْتَهِي مَا أُهْبِطَ بِهِ مِنْ فَوْقِهَا حَتَّی يُقْبَضَ مِنْهَا قَالَ إِذْ يَغْشَی السِّدْرَةَ مَا يَغْشَی قَالَ فَرَاشٌ مِنْ ذَهَبٍ فَأُعْطِيَ ثَلَاثًا الصَّلَوَاتُ الْخَمْسُ وَخَوَاتِيمُ سُورَةِ الْبَقَرَةِ وَيُغْفَرُ لِمَنْ مَاتَ مِنْ أُمَّتِهِ لَا يُشْرِکُ بِاللَّهِ شَيْئًا الْمُقْحِمَاتُ

It was narrated that ‘Abdullah said: “When the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم was taken on the Night Journey, he came to Sidrah Al Muntaha, which is in the sixth heaven. That is where everything that comes up from below ends, and where everything that comes down from above, until it is taken from it. Allah says: When what covered the lote-tree did cover it!. He said: “It was moths of gold. And I was given three things: The five daily prayers, the last verses of Sarah Al-Ba qarah, and whoever of my Ummah dies without associating anything with Allah will be forgiven for Al Muqhimat.” (Sahih)

أَخْبَرَنَا سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ دَاوُدَ عَنْ ابْنِ وَهْبٍ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنِي عَمْرُو بْنُ الْحَارِثِ أَنَّ عَبْدَ رَبِّهِ بْنَ سَعِيدٍ حَدَّثَهُ أَنَّ الْبُنَانِيَّ حَدَّثَهُ عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِکٍ أَنَّ الصَّلَوَاتِ فُرِضَتْ بِمَکَّةَ وَأَنَّ مَلَکَيْنِ أَتَيَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَذَهَبَا بِهِ إِلَی زَمْزَمَ فَشَقَّا بَطْنَهُ وَأَخْرَجَا حَشْوَهُ فِي طَسْتٍ مِنْ ذَهَبٍ فَغَسَلَاهُ بِمَائِ زَمْزَمَ ثُمَّ کَبَسَا جَوْفَهُ حِکْمَةً وَعِلْمًا

It was narrated from Anas bin Malik that the prayers were enjoined in Makkah, and that two angels came to the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم, and took him to Zamzam, where they split open his stomach and took out his innards in a basin of gold, and washed them with Zamzam water, then they filled his heart with wisdom and knowledge. (Sahih)

أَخْبَرَنَا إِسْحَقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ قَالَ أَنْبَأَنَا سُفْيَانُ عَنْ الزُّهْرِيِّ عَنْ عُرْوَةَ عَنْ عَائِشَةَ قَالَتْ أَوَّلَ مَا فُرِضَتْ الصَّلَاةُ رَکْعَتَيْنِ فَأُقِرَّتْ صَلَاةُ السَّفَرِ وَأُتِمَّتْ صَلَاةُ الْحَضَرِ

It was narrated that ‘Aishah said: “The first time the Salah was enjoined it was two Rak and it remained as such when traveling, but the Salah while resident was made complete.” (Sahih)

أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ هَاشِمٍ الْبَعْلَبَکِّيُّ قَالَ أَنْبَأَنَا الْوَلِيدُ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنِي أَبُو عَمْرٍو يَعْنِي الْأَوْزَاعِيَّ أَنَّهُ سَأَلَ الزُّهْرِيَّ عَنْ صَلَاةِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِمَکَّةَ قَبْلَ الْهِجْرَةِ إِلَی الْمَدِينَةِ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنِي عُرْوَةُ عَنْ عَائِشَةَ قَالَتْ فَرَضَ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ الصَّلَاةَ عَلَی رَسُولِهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَوَّلَ مَا فَرَضَهَا رَکْعَتَيْنِ رَکْعَتَيْنِ ثُمَّ أُتِمَّتْ فِي الْحَضَرِ أَرْبَعًا وَأُقِرَّتْ صَلَاةُ السَّفَرِ عَلَی الْفَرِيضَةِ الْأُولَی

Abu ‘Amr — meaning, Al Awza’i — said that he asked Az uhri about the prayer of the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم in Makkah before the Hijrah to Al-Madinah. He said: “Urwah told me that ‘Aishah said: ‘Allah enjoined the salah upon the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم, and the first thing that He enjoined was two Rak’ahs at a time, then it was made complete four Rak’ahs while in the state of residence resident but the prayer when traveling remained two Rak’ahs, as it was first enjoined.” (Sahih)

It was narrated that ‘Aishah said: “The Salah was enjoined two Rak’ahs at a time, then the aah when traveling remained like that, but the Salah while resident was increased.” (Sahih)

It was narrated that Ibn ‘Abbas said: “The Salah was enjoined on the lips of the Prophet صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم, four Rak’ahs while resident, and two while traveling, and one Rak’ah during times of fear.” (Sahih)

أَخْبَرَنَا يُوسُفُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا حَجَّاجُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ الشُّعَيْثِيُّ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي بَکْرِ بْنِ الْحَارِثِ بْنِ هِشَامٍ عَنْ أُمَيَّةَ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ خَالِدِ بْنِ أَسِيدٍ أَنَّهُ قَالَ لِابْنِ عُمَرَ کَيْفَ تَقْصُرُ الصَّلَاةَ وَإِنَّمَا قَالَ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ لَيْسَ عَلَيْکُمْ جُنَاحٌ أَنْ تَقْصُرُوا مِنْ الصَّلَاةِ إِنْ خِفْتُمْ فَقَالَ ابْنُ عُمَرَ يَا ابْنَ أَخِي إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَتَانَا وَنَحْنُ ضُلَّالٌ فَعَلَّمَنَا فَکَانَ فِيمَا عَلَّمَنَا أَنَّ اللَّهَ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ أَمَرَنَا أَنْ نُصَلِّيَ رَکْعَتَيْنِ فِي السَّفَرِ قَالَ الشُّعَيْثِيُّ وَکَانَ الزُّهْرِيُّ يُحَدِّثُ بِهَذَا الْحَدِيثِ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي بَکْرٍ

It was narrated that Umayyah bin ‘Abdullah bin Khalid bin Asid said to Ibn ‘Umar: “How can the Salah be shortened as Allah says: There is no sin on you if you shorten As-salah (the prayer) if you are in fear.?” Ibn ‘Umar said: “son of my brother! The Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم came to us when we had gone astray and he taught us. One of the things that he taught us was that Allah, the Mighty and Sublime, has commanded us to pray two Rak’ahs when traveling.” (Hasan)

أَخْبَرَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ عَنْ مَالِکٍ عَنْ أَبِي سُهَيْلٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ طَلْحَةَ بْنَ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ يَقُولُ جَائَ رَجُلٌ إِلَی رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مِنْ أَهْلِ نَجْدٍ ثَائِرَ الرَّأْسِ نَسْمَعُ دَوِيَّ صَوْتِهِ وَلَا نَفْهَمُ مَا يَقُولُ حَتَّی دَنَا فَإِذَا هُوَ يَسْأَلُ عَنْ الْإِسْلَامِ فَقَالَ لَهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ خَمْسُ صَلَوَاتٍ فِي الْيَوْمِ وَاللَّيْلَةِ قَالَ هَلْ عَلَيَّ غَيْرُهُنَّ قَالَ لَا إِلَّا أَنْ تَطَّوَّعَ قَالَ وَصِيَامُ شَهْرِ رَمَضَانَ قَالَ هَلْ عَلَيَّ غَيْرُهُ قَالَ لَا إِلَّا أَنْ تَطَّوَّعَ وَذَکَرَ لَهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ الزَّکَاةَ قَالَ هَلْ عَلَيَّ غَيْرُهَا قَالَ لَا إِلَّا أَنْ تَطَّوَّعَ فَأَدْبَرَ الرَّجُلُ وَهُوَ يَقُولُ وَاللَّهِ لَا أَزِيدُ عَلَی هَذَا وَلَا أَنْقُصُ مِنْهُ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَفْلَحَ إِنْ صَدَقَ

It was narrated from Abu Suhail, from his father, that he heard Talhah bin ‘Ubaidullah say: “A man from the people of Najd came to the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم with unkempt hair. We could hear him talking loudly but we could not understand what he was saying until he came closer. He was asking about Islam. The Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم said to him: ‘Five prayers each day and night.’ He said: ‘Do I have to do anything else?’ He said: ‘No, unless you do it voluntarily.’ He said: ‘And fasting the month of Ramadan.’ He said: ‘Do I have to do anything else?’ He said: ‘No, unless you do it voluntarily.’ And the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم mentioned Zakah to him, and he said: ‘Do I have to do anything else?’ He said: ‘No, unless you do it voluntarily.’ The man left saying: ‘By Allah, I will not do any more than this or any less.’ The Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم said: ‘He will achieve salvation, if he is speaking the truth.” (Sahih)

أَخْبَرَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا نُوحُ بْنُ قَيْسٍ عَنْ خَالِدِ بْنِ قَيْسٍ عَنْ قَتَادَةَ عَنْ أَنَسٍ قَالَ سَأَلَ رَجُلٌ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ کَمْ افْتَرَضَ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ عَلَی عِبَادِهِ مِنْ الصَّلَوَاتِ قَالَ افْتَرَضَ اللَّهُ عَلَی عِبَادِهِ صَلَوَاتٍ خَمْسًا قَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ هَلْ قَبْلَهُنَّ أَوْ بَعْدَهُنَّ شَيْئًا قَالَ افْتَرَضَ اللَّهُ عَلَی عِبَادِهِ صَلَوَاتٍ خَمْسًا فَحَلَفَ الرَّجُلُ لَا يَزِيدُ عَلَيْهِ شَيْئًا وَلَا يَنْقُصُ مِنْهُ شَيْئًا قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِنْ صَدَقَ لَيَدْخُلَنَّ الْجَنَّةَ

It was narrated that Anas said: “A man asked the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم: ‘Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم, how many prayers has Allah enjoined upon His slaves?’ He said: ‘Allah has enjoined upon His slaves (five) prayers.’ He said: ‘Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم, is there anything before them or after them?’ He said: ‘Allah has enjoined upon His slaves (five) prayers.’ The man swore that he would not do anything more or less than that. The Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم said: ‘If he is speaking the truth he will most certainly enter Paradise.” (Sahih)

أَخْبَرَنَا عَمْرُو بْنُ مَنْصُورٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُسْهِرٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ عَنْ رَبِيعَةَ بْنِ يَزِيدَ عَنْ أَبِي إِدْرِيسَ الْخَوْلَانِيِّ عَنْ أَبِي مُسْلِمٍ الْخَوْلَانِيِّ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنِي الْحَبِيبُ الْأَمِينُ عَوْفُ بْنُ مَالِکٍ الْأَشْجَعِيُّ قَالَ کُنَّا عِنْدَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ أَلَا تُبَايِعُونَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَرَدَّدَهَا ثَلَاثَ مَرَّاتٍ فَقَدَّمْنَا أَيْدِيَنَا فَبَايَعْنَاهُ فَقُلْنَا يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ قَدْ بَايَعْنَاکَ فَعَلَامَ قَالَ عَلَی أَنْ تَعْبُدُوا اللَّهَ وَلَا تُشْرِکُوا بِهِ شَيْئًا وَالصَّلَوَاتِ الْخَمْسِ وَأَسَرَّ کَلِمَةً خَفِيَّةً أَنْ لَا تَسْأَلُوا النَّاسَ شَيْئًا

‘Awf bin Malik Al-Ashja`i said: “We were with the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم, and he said: ‘Will you not pledge to the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم?‘ And he repeated it three times. So we stretched forth our hands to give our pledge. We said: ‘Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم, we are willing to give you our pledge, but on what?’ He said: ‘That you will worship Allah and not associate anything with him, and (offer) the five daily prayers.’ And he said, very quietly: ‘And you will not ask the people for anything.” (Sahih)

أَخْبَرَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ عَنْ مَالِکٍ عَنْ يَحْيَی بْنِ سَعِيدٍ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ يَحْيَی بْنِ حَبَّانَ عَنْ ابْنِ مُحَيْرِيزٍ أَنَّ رَجُلًا مِنْ بَنِي کِنَانَةَ يُدْعَی الْمُخْدَجِيَّ سَمِعَ رَجُلًا بِالشَّامِ يُکْنَی أَبَا مُحَمَّدٍ يَقُولُ الْوِتْرُ وَاجِبٌ قَالَ الْمُخْدَجِيُّ فَرُحْتُ إِلَی عُبَادَةَ بْنِ الصَّامِتِ فَاعْتَرَضْتُ لَهُ وَهُوَ رَائِحٌ إِلَی الْمَسْجِدِ فَأَخْبَرْتُهُ بِالَّذِي قَالَ أَبُو مُحَمَّدٍ فَقَالَ عُبَادَةُ کَذَبَ أَبُو مُحَمَّدٍ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ خَمْسُ صَلَوَاتٍ کَتَبَهُنَّ اللَّهُ عَلَی الْعِبَادِ مَنْ جَائَ بِهِنَّ لَمْ يُضَيِّعْ مِنْهُنَّ شَيْئًا اسْتِخْفَافًا بِحَقِّهِنَّ کَانَ لَهُ عِنْدَ اللَّهِ عَهْدٌ أَنْ يُدْخِلَهُ الْجَنَّةَ وَمَنْ لَمْ يَأْتِ بِهِنَّ فَلَيْسَ لَهُ عِنْدَ اللَّهِ عَهْدٌ إِنْ شَائَ عَذَّبَهُ وَإِنْ شَائَ أَدْخَلَهُ الْجَنَّةَ

It was narrated from Ibn Muhairiz that a man from Banu Kinanah who was called Al-Mukhdaji heard a man in Ash-Sham, who was known as Abu Muhammad, saying that Witr was obligatory. Al-Mukhdaji said: “In the morning I went to ‘Ubadah bin As-Samit, and I met him while he was on his way to the Masjid. I told him what Abu Muhammad said, and ‘Ubadah said: ‘Abu Muhammad is wrong. I heard the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم say: ‘Five prayers are those that Allah has decreed for (His) slaves, whoever does them, and does not neglect any of them out of disregard toward them, will have a promise from Allah that He will admit him to Paradise. And whoever does not do them will have no such promise from Allah; if He wills he will punish him and if He wills He will admit him to Paradise.” (Hasan)

أَخْبَرَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا اللَّيْثُ عَنْ ابْنِ الْهَادِ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ أَرَأَيْتُمْ لَوْ أَنَّ نَهَرًا بِبَابِ أَحَدِکُمْ يَغْتَسِلُ مِنْهُ کُلَّ يَوْمٍ خَمْسَ مَرَّاتٍ هَلْ يَبْقَی مِنْ دَرَنِهِ شَيْئٌ قَالُوا لَا يَبْقَی مِنْ دَرَنِهِ شَيْئٌ قَالَ فَکَذَلِکَ مَثَلُ الصَّلَوَاتِ الْخَمْسِ يَمْحُو اللَّهُ بِهِنَّ الْخَطَايَا

It was narrated from Abu Hurairah that the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم said: “Do you think that if there was a river by the door of any one of you, and he bathed in it five times each day, would there be any trace of dirt left on him?” They said: “No trace of dirt would be left on him.” He said: “That is the likeness of the five daily prayers. By means of them Allah erases sins.” (Sahih)
