1833 - سمعت السلمي يقول : سمعت أبا بكر الرازي يقول سمعت غيلان السمرقندي يقول : سمعت أبا بكر الوراق يقول : من اكتفى بالكلام من العلم دون الزهد و الفقه تزندق و من اكتفى بالزهد دون الفقه و الكلام ابتدع و من اكتفى بالفقه دون الزهد و الورع يفسق و من تفنن في الأمور كلها تخلص

1839 - حدثنا عبد الملك بن أبي عثمان الزاهد أنا علي بن يوسف النصيبي بمكة ثنا عبد الله بن محمد المفسر ثنا محمد بن حامد أنا محمد بن المثنى قال : سمعت بشر بن الحارث يقول : لا ينبغي لأحد أن يذكر شيئا من الحديث في موضع حاجة يكون له من حوائج الدنيا يريد أن يتقرب إليه و لا يذكر العلم في موضع ذكر الدنيا و قد رأيت مشايخا طلبوا العلم للدينا فافتضحوا و آخرين طلبوه فوضعوه مواضعه و عملوا به و قاموا به فأولئك سلموا و نفعهم الله به
