حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ أَبِي خَلَفٍ وَأَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَبْدَةَ الْمَعْنَی قَالَا حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ بْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ عَنْ الزُّهْرِيِّ عَنْ سَعِيدٍ قَالَ مَرَّ عُمَرُ بِحَسَّانَ وَهُوَ يُنْشِدُ فِي الْمَسْجِدِ فَلَحَظَ إِلَيْهِ فَقَالَ قَدْ کُنْتُ أُنْشِدُ وَفِيهِ مَنْ هُوَ خَيْرٌ مِنْکَ

Saeed said: Umar passed by Hassan when he was reciting verses in the mosque. He looked at him. Thereupon he said: I used to recite verses when there was present in it the one who was better than you (i. e. the Prophet).

حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ صَالِحٍ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ أَخْبَرَنَا مَعْمَرٌ عَنْ الزُّهْرِيِّ عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ الْمُسَيَّبِ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ بِمَعْنَاهُ زَادَ فَخَشِيَ أَنْ يَرْمِيَهُ بِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَأَجَازَهُ

The tradition mention above has also been transmitted by Saeed bin al-Musayyab through a different chain of narrators to the same effect. This version adds: so he (Umar’) feared that he would refer to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ; therefore he allowed him.

حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ الْمِصِّيصِيُّ لُوَيْنٌ حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ أَبِي الزِّنَادِ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ عُرْوَةَ وَهِشَامٍ عَنْ عُرْوَةَ عَنْ عَائِشَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهَا قَالَتْ کَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَضَعُ لِحَسَّانَ مِنْبَرًا فِي الْمَسْجِدِ فَيَقُومُ عَلَيْهِ يَهْجُو مَنْ قَالَ فِي رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِنَّ رُوحَ الْقُدُسِ مَعَ حَسَّانَ مَا نَافَحَ عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ

Narrated Aishah, Ummul Muminin: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to setup a pulpit in the mosque for Hassan who would stand on it and satirise those who spoke against the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ would say: The spirit of holiness (i. e. Gabriel) is with Hassan so long as he speaks in defence of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.

رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ← رَسُولُ اللَّهِ إِنَّ رُوحَ الْقُدُسِ مَعَ حَسَّانَ مَا نَافَحَ ← فِي رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ← کَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ يَضَعُ لِحَسَّانَ مِنْبَرًا فِي الْمَسْجِدِ فَيَقُومُ عَلَيْهِ يَهْجُو مَنْ ← عَائِشَةَ ← عُرْوَةَ ← عُرْوَةَ وَهِشَامٍ ← أَبِيهِ ← ابْنُ أَبِي الزِّنَادِ، ← محمد بن سليمان المصيصي لوين

حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الْمَرْوَزِيُّ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي عَلِيُّ بْنُ حُسَيْنٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ يَزِيدَ النَّحْوِيِّ عَنْ عِکْرِمَةَ عَنْ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ وَالشُّعَرَائُ يَتَّبِعُهُمْ الْغَاوُونَ فَنَسَخَ مِنْ ذَلِکَ وَاسْتَثْنَی فَقَالَ إِلَّا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَعَمِلُوا الصَّالِحَاتِ وَذَکَرُوا اللَّهَ کَثِيرًا

Ibn Abbas said: The verse “And the poets it is those straying in evil who follow them. He (Allah) then abrogated it and made an exception saying: Except those who believe and work righteousness, engage much in the remembrance of Allah. "

حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مَسْلَمَةَ عَنْ مَالِکٍ عَنْ إِسْحَقَ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي طَلْحَةَ عَنْ زُفَرَ بْنِ صَعْصَعَةَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ کَانَ إِذَا انْصَرَفَ مِنْ صَلَاةِ الْغَدَاةِ يَقُولُ هَلْ رَأَی أَحَدٌ مِنْکُمْ اللَّيْلَةَ رُؤْيَا وَيَقُولُ إِنَّهُ لَيْسَ يَبْقَی بَعْدِي مِنْ النُّبُوَّةِ إِلَّا الرُّؤْيَا الصَّالِحَةُ

Narrated Abu Hurairah: When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ finished the dawn prayer, he would ask: Did any of you have a dream last night? And he said: All that is left of Prophecy after me is a good vision.

حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ کَثِيرٍ أَخْبَرَنَا شُعْبَةُ عَنْ قَتَادَةَ عَنْ أَنَسٍ عَنْ عُبَادَةَ بْنِ الصَّامِتِ عَنْ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ رُؤْيَا الْمُؤْمِنِ جُزْئٌ مِنْ سِتَّةٍ وَأَرْبَعِينَ جُزْئًا مِنْ النُّبُوَّةِ

Ubadah bin al-Samit reported the Prophet ﷺ as saying: A believer’s vision is the forty-sixth part of Prophecy.

حَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْوَهَّابِ عَنْ أَيُّوبَ عَنْ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ عَنْ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ إِذَا اقْتَرَبَ الزَّمَانُ لَمْ تَکَدْ رُؤْيَا الْمُؤْمِنِ أَنْ تَکْذِبَ وَأَصْدَقُهُمْ رُؤْيَا أَصْدَقُهُمْ حَدِيثًا وَالرُّؤْيَا ثَلَاثٌ فَالرُّؤْيَا الصَّالِحَةُ بُشْرَی مِنْ اللَّهِ وَالرُّؤْيَا تَحْزِينٌ مِنْ الشَّيْطَانِ وَرُؤْيَا مِمَّا يُحَدِّثُ بِهِ الْمَرْئُ نَفْسَهُ فَإِذَا رَأَی أَحَدُکُمْ مَا يَکْرَهُ فَلْيَقُمْ فَلْيُصَلِّ وَلَا يُحَدِّثْ بِهَا النَّاسَ قَالَ وَأُحِبُّ الْقَيْدَ وَأَکْرَهُ الْغُلَّ وَالْقَيْدُ ثَبَاتٌ فِي الدِّينِ قَالَ أَبُو دَاوُد إِذَا اقْتَرَبَ الزَّمَانُ يَعْنِي إِذَا اقْتَرَبَ اللَّيْلُ وَالنَّهَارُ يَعْنِي يَسْتَوِيَانِ

Abu Hurairah reported the Prophet ﷺ as saying: When the time draws near, a believer’s vision can hardly be false. The truer one of them is in his speech, the truer he is in his vision. Visions are of three types: Good visions are glad tidings from Allah, a terrifying vision caused by the devil, and the ideas which come from within a man. So when one sees anything he dislikes, he should get up and pray, and should not tell it to the people. He said: I like a fetter and dislike a shackle on the neck; a fetter indicates being firmly established in religion. Abu Dawud said: “when the time draws near” means that when the day and night are equal.

حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ حَنْبَلٍ حَدَّثَنَا هُشَيْمٌ أَخْبَرَنَا يَعْلَی بْنُ عَطَائٍ عَنْ وَکِيعِ بْنِ عُدُسٍ عَنْ عَمِّهِ أَبِي رَزِينٍ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ الرُّؤْيَا عَلَی رِجْلِ طَائِرٍ مَا لَمْ تُعَبَّرْ فَإِذَا عُبِّرَتْ وَقَعَتْ قَالَ وَأَحْسِبُهُ قَالَ وَلَا تَقُصَّهَا إِلَّا عَلَی وَادٍّ أَوْ ذِي رَأْيٍ

Narrated Abu Razin: The Prophet ﷺ said: The vision flutters over a man as long as it is not interpreted, but when it is interpreted, it settles. And I think he said: Tell it only to one who loves (i. e. friend) or one who has judgment.

حَدَّثَنَا النُّفَيْلِيُّ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ زُهَيْرًا يَقُولُ سَمِعْتُ يَحْيَی بْنَ سَعِيدٍ يَقُولُ سَمِعْتُ أَبَا سَلَمَةَ يَقُولُ سَمِعْتُ أَبَا قَتَادَةَ يَقُولُ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ الرُّؤْيَا مِنْ اللَّهِ وَالْحُلْمُ مِنْ الشَّيْطَانِ فَإِذَا رَأَی أَحَدُکُمْ شَيْئًا يَکْرَهُهُ فَلْيَنْفُثْ عَنْ يَسَارِهِ ثَلَاثَ مَرَّاتٍ ثُمَّ لِيَتَعَوَّذْ مِنْ شَرِّهَا فَإِنَّهَا لَا تَضُرُّهُ

Abu Qatadah said: I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: A good vision comes from Allah and a dream (hulm) from the devil, so when one of you sees what he dislikes, he must spit on his left (three times), and seek refuge in Allah from its evil. It will then not harm him.

يَسَارِهِ ثَلَاثَ مَرَّاتٍ ثُمَّ لِيَتَعَوَّذْ مِنْ شَرِّهَا فَإِنَّهَا لَا تَضُرُّهُ ← الرُّؤْيَا مِنْ اللَّهِ وَالْحُلْمُ مِنْ الشَّيْطَانِ فَإِذَا رَأَی أَحَدُکُمْ شَيْئًا يَکْرَهُهُ فَلْيَنْفُثْ ← رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ← أَبَا قَتَادَةَ، ← أَبَا سَلَمَةَ ← يَحْيَی بْنُ سَعِيدٍ ← زُهَيْرًا ← النُّفَيْلِيُّ

حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ خَالِدٍ الْهَمْدَانِيُّ وَقُتَيْبَةُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ الثَّقَفِيُّ قَالَا أَخْبَرَنَا اللَّيْثُ عَنْ أَبِي الزُّبَيْرِ عَنْ جَابِرٍ عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنَّهُ قَالَ إِذَا رَأَی أَحَدُکُمْ الرُّؤْيَا يَکْرَهُهَا فَلْيَبْصُقْ عَنْ يَسَارِهِ وَلْيَتَعَوَّذْ بِاللَّهِ مِنْ الشَّيْطَانِ ثَلَاثًا وَيَتَحَوَّلُ عَنْ جَنْبِهِ الَّذِي کَانَ عَلَيْهِ

Jabir reported the Messenger of Allah ﷺ as saying: When one of you sees a vision which he dislikes, he must spit on his left (three times), seek refuge in Allah from the devil three times, and turn from the side on which he was lying.

جَنْبِهِ الَّذِي كَانَ عَلَيْهِ» ← يَسَارِهِ وَلْيَتَعَوَّذْ بِاللَّهِ مِنْ الشَّيْطَانِ ثَلَاثًا وَيَتَحَوَّلُ ← «إِذَا رَأَى أَحَدُكُمُ الرُّؤْيَا يَكْرَهُهَا، فَلْيَبْصُقْ ← رَسُولِ اللَّهِ أَنَّهُ ← جَابِرٍ ← أَبِي الزُّبَيْرِ ← اللَّيْثُ ← يَزِيدُ بْنُ خَالِدٍ الْهَمْدَانِيُّ وَقُتَيْبَةُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ الثَّقَفِيُّ

حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ صَالِحٍ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ وَهْبٍ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنِي يُونُسُ عَنْ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنِي أَبُو سَلَمَةَ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ أَنَّ أَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ مَنْ رَآنِي فِي الْمَنَامِ فَسَيَرَانِي فِي الْيَقَظَةِ أَوْ لَکَأَنَّمَا رَآنِي فِي الْيَقَظَةِ وَلَا يَتَمَثَّلُ الشَّيْطَانُ بِي

Abu Hurairah said: I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: He who sees me in a dream will see me when awake or as if he will see me when awake, for the devil does not take my likeness.

حَدَّثَنَا مُسَدَّدٌ وَسُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ دَاوُدَ قَالَا حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادٌ حَدَّثَنَا أَيُّوبُ عَنْ عِکْرِمَةَ عَنْ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ مَنْ صَوَّرَ صُورَةً عَذَّبَهُ اللَّهُ بِهَا يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ حَتَّی يَنْفُخَ فِيهَا وَلَيْسَ بِنَافِخٍ وَمَنْ تَحَلَّمَ کُلِّفَ أَنْ يَعْقِدَ شَعِيرَةً وَمَنْ اسْتَمَعَ إِلَی حَدِيثِ قَوْمٍ يَفِرُّونَ بِهِ مِنْهُ صُبَّ فِي أُذُنِهِ الْآنُکُ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ

Ibn Abbas reported the Prophet ﷺ as saying: If anyone makes a representation of anything, Allah will punish him on the day of Resurrection for it until he breathes into it, but he will bw unable to do so. If anyone pretends to have had a dream which he did not see, he will gives the task of joining barley-seed. If anyone listens to other people’s talk when they try to avoid him, lead will be poured into his ears on the Day of resurrection.
