Musnad Imam Ahmad Bin Hanble

حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو النَّضْرِ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْحَمِيدِ حَدَّثَنَا شَهْرٌ قَالَ قَالَ ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَيُّمَا رَجُلٍ ادَّعَى إِلَى غَيْرِ وَالِدَيْهِ أَوْ تَوَلَّى غَيْرَ مَوَالِيهِ الَّذِينَ أَعْتَقُوهُ فَإِنَّ عَلَيْهِ لَعْنَةَ اللَّهِ وَالْمَلَائِكَةِ وَالنَّاسِ أَجْمَعِينَ إِلَى يَوْمِ الْقِيَامَةِ لَا يُقْبَلُ مِنْهُ صَرْفٌ وَلَا عَدْلٌ

Ibn 'Abbas (RA) said: The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said: "Any man who claims to belong to some- one other than his father or to some- one other than his former masters who manumitted him, upon him be the curse of Allah, the angels and all the people until the Day of Resurrection, and no obligatory or nafl act of worship will be accepted from him."

حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو النَّضْرِ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْحَمِيدِ حَدَّثَنِي شَهْرٌ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ نُهِيَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَنْ أَصْنَافِ النِّسَاءِ إِلَّا مَا كَانَ مِنْ الْمُؤْمِنَاتِ الْمُهَاجِرَاتِ قَالَ لَا يَحِلُّ لَكَ النِّسَاءُ مِنْ بَعْدُ وَلَا أَنْ تَبَدَّلَ بِهِنَّ مِنْ أَزْوَاجٍ وَلَوْ أَعْجَبَكَ حُسْنُهُنَّ إِلَّا مَا مَلَكَتْ يَمِينُكَ وَأَحَلَّ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ فَتَيَاتِكُمْ الْمُؤْمِنَاتِ وَامْرَأَةً مُؤْمِنَةً إِنْ وَهَبَتْ نَفْسَهَا لِلنَّبِيِّ وَحَرَّمَ كُلَّ ذَاتِ دِينٍ غَيْرَ دِينِ الْإِسْلَامِ قَالَ وَمَنْ يَكْفُرْ بِالْإِيمَانِ فَقَدْ حَبِطَ عَمَلُهُ وَهُوَ فِي الْآخِرَةِ مِنْ الْخَاسِرِينَ وَقَالَ يَا أَيُّهَا النَّبِيُّ إِنَّا أَحْلَلْنَا لَكَ أَزْوَاجَكَ اللَّاتِي آتَيْتَ أُجُورَهُنَّ وَمَا مَلَكَتْ يَمِينُكَ إِلَى قَوْلِهِ خَالِصَةً لَكَ مِنْ دُونِ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَحَرَّمَ سِوَى ذَلِكَ مِنْ أَصْنَافِ النِّسَاءِ

It was narrated that Ibn 'Abbas (RA) said: The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) was forbidden all kinds of women except those who were believers and muhajirat (migrants). Allah said: "It is not lawful for you (to marry other) women after this, nor to change them for other wives even though their beauty attracts you, except those (slaves) whom your right hand possesses" [al- Ahzab 33:52]. And Allah permitted free, believing women: "and a believing woman if she offers herself to the Prophet” [al-Ahzab 33:50], And He forbade every woman who follows a religion other than Islam and said: "And whosoever disbelieves in Faith, [i.e. in the Oneness of Allah and in all the other Articles of Faith i.e. His (Allah's) Angels, Plis Holy Books, His Messengers, the Day of Resurrection and AI-Qadar (Divine Preordairunents)], then fruitless is his work; and in the Hereafter he will be among the losers” [al- Ma'idah 5:5] and "O Prophet (Muhammad (PBUH))! Verily, We have made lawful to you your wives, to whom you have paid their Mahr (bridal-money given by the husband to his wife at the time of marriage), and those (slaves) whom your right hand possesses - whom Allah has given to you, and the daughters of your 'Arum (paternal uncles) and the daughters of your ‘Armnat (paternal aunts) and the daughters of your Khat (maternal uncles) and the daughters of your Khalal (maternal aunts) who migrated (from Makkah) with you, and a believing woman if she offers herself to the Prophet, and the Prophet wishes to marry her - a privilege for you only, not for the (rest of) the believers” [al-Ahzab 33:50]. And He forbade all other types of women apart from that.

حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو النَّضْرِ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْحَمِيدِ حَدَّثَنَا شَهْرٌ حَدَّثَنِي عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عَبَّاسٍ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ خَطَبَ امْرَأَةً مِنْ قَوْمِهِ يُقَالُ لَهَا سَوْدَةُ وَكَانَتْ مُصْبِيَةً كَانَ لَهَا خَمْسَةُ صِبْيَةٍ أَوْ سِتَّةٌ مِنْ بَعْلٍ لَهَا مَاتَ فَقَالَ لَهَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مَا يَمْنَعُكِ مِنِّي قَالَتْ وَاللَّهِ يَا نَبِيَّ اللَّهِ مَا يَمْنَعُنِي مِنْكَ أَنْ لَا تَكُونَ أَحَبَّ الْبَرِيَّةِ إِلَيَّ وَلَكِنِّي أُكْرِمُكَ أَنْ يَضْغُوَ هَؤُلَاءِ الصِّبْيَةَ عِنْدَ رَأْسِكَ بُكْرَةً وَعَشِيَّةً قَالَ فَهَلْ مَنَعَكِ مِنِّي شَيْءٌ غَيْرُ ذَلِكَ قَالَتْ لَا وَاللَّهِ قَالَ لَهَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَرْحَمُكِ اللَّهُ إِنَّ خَيْرَ نِسَاءٍ رَكِبْنَ أَعْجَازَ الْإِبِلِ صَالِحُ نِسَاءِ قُرَيْشٍ أَحْنَاهُ عَلَى وَلَدٍ فِي صِغَرٍ وَأَرْعَاهُ عَلَى بَعْلٍ بِذَاتِ يَدٍ

'Abdullah bin 'Abbas (RA) narrated that the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) proposed to a woman of his people whose name was Sawdah, who had a lot of children; she had five or six children from a husband of hers who had died. The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said to her: "What is keeping you from marrying me?" She said: By Allah, O Prophet of Allah, what is keeping me from marrying you is not that you are not the dearest of people to me, but I do not want these children to make noise at your head morning and evening. He said: "Is anything else keeping you from marrying me?" She said: No, by Allah. The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said to her: "May Allah have mercy on you; the best women who ever rode camels are the righteous women of Quraish. I hey are the most compassionate towards children when they are small, and they take the best care of their husbands' wealth."

و قَالَ جَلَسَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مَجْلِسًا لَهُ فَأَتَاهُ جِبْرِيلُ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَام فَجَلَسَ بَيْنَ يَدَيْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَاضِعًا كَفَّيْهِ عَلَى رُكْبَتَيْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ حَدِّثْنِي مَا الْإِسْلَامُ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ الْإِسْلَامُ أَنْ تُسْلِمَ وَجْهَكَ لِلَّهِ وَتَشْهَدَ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ وَحْدَهُ لَا شَرِيكَ لَهُ وَأَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا عَبْدُهُ وَرَسُولُهُ قَالَ فَإِذَا فَعَلْتُ ذَلِكَ فَأَنَا مُسْلِمٌ قَالَ إِذَا فَعَلْتَ ذَلِكَ فَقَدْ أَسْلَمْتَ قَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ فَحَدِّثْنِي مَا الْإِيمَانُ قَالَ الْإِيمَانُ أَنْ تُؤْمِنَ بِاللَّهِ وَالْيَوْمِ الْآخِرِ وَالْمَلَائِكَةِ وَالْكِتَابِ وَالنَّبِيِّينَ وَتُؤْمِنَ بِالْمَوْتِ وَبِالْحَيَاةِ بَعْدَ الْمَوْتِ وَتُؤْمِنَ بِالْجَنَّةِ وَالنَّارِ وَالْحِسَابِ وَالْمِيزَانِ وَتُؤْمِنَ بِالْقَدَرِ كُلِّهِ خَيْرِهِ وَشَرِّهِ قَالَ فَإِذَا فَعَلْتُ ذَلِكَ فَقَدْ آمَنْتُ قَالَ إِذَا فَعَلْتَ ذَلِكَ فَقَدْ آمَنْتَ قَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ حَدِّثْنِي مَا الْإِحْسَانُ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ الْإِحْسَانُ أَنْ تَعْمَلَ لِلَّهِ كَأَنَّكَ تَرَاهُ فَإِنَّكَ إِنْ لَمْ تَرَهُ فَإِنَّهُ يَرَاكَ قَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ فَحَدِّثْنِي مَتَى السَّاعَةُ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ سُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ فِي خَمْسٍ مِنْ الْغَيْبِ لَا يَعْلَمُهُنَّ إِلَّا هُوَ إِنَّ اللَّهَ عِنْدَهُ عِلْمُ السَّاعَةِ وَيُنَزِّلُ الْغَيْثَ وَيَعْلَمُ مَا فِي الْأَرْحَامِ وَمَا تَدْرِي نَفْسٌ مَاذَا تَكْسِبُ غَدًا وَمَا تَدْرِي نَفْسٌ بِأَيِّ أَرْضٍ تَمُوتُ إِنَّ اللَّهَ عَلِيمٌ خَبِيرٌ وَلَكِنْ إِنْ شِئْتَ حَدَّثْتُكَ بِمَعَالِمَ لَهَا دُونَ ذَلِكَ قَالَ أَجَلْ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ فَحَدِّثْنِي قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِذَا رَأَيْتَ الْأَمَةَ وَلَدَتْ رَبَّتَهَا أَوْ رَبَّهَا وَرَأَيْتَ أَصْحَابَ الشَّاءِ تَطَاوَلُوا بِالْبُنْيَانِ وَرَأَيْتَ الْحُفَاةَ الْجِيَاعَ الْعَالَةَ كَانُوا رُءُوسَ النَّاسِ فَذَلِكَ مِنْ مَعَالِمِ السَّاعَةِ وَأَشْرَاطِهَا قَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ وَمَنْ أَصْحَابُ الشَّاءِ وَالْحُفَاةُ الْجِيَاعُ الْعَالَةُ قَالَ الْعَرَبُ

The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) sat in a gathering of his and Jibreel (AS) came to him and sat in front of the Messenger of Allah (PBUH), placing his hands on the knees of the Messenger of Allah (PBUH). He said: O Messenger of Allah, tell me about Islam. The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said: "Islam is to turn your face towards Allah (in submission); to bear witness that there is no god but Allah alone, with no partner or associate, and to bear witness that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger." He said; If I do that, will I have become Muslim? He said: "If you do that. you will have become Muslim'. He said: O Messenger of Allah, tell me about faith. He said: "Faith means to believe in Allah, the Last Day, the angels, the Book and the Prophets; to believe in death and in life after death; and to believe in Paradise, Hell, the Reckoning, and the Balance; and to believe in predestination, all of it, both good and bad." He said: And if I do that, will I have believed? He said: "If you do that, you will have believed." He said: O Messenger of Allah, tell me about ihsan. The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said: " Ihsan means to strive for the sake of Allah as if you can see Him, and although you cannot see Him, He sees you." He said: O Messenger of Allah, tell me, when is the Hour? The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said: "Subhanallah, there are five matters of the Unseen which no one knows except Him: 'Verily, Allah, with Him (Alone) is the knowledge of the Hour, He sends down the rain, and knows that which is in the wombs. No person knows what he will earn tomorrow, and no person knows in what land he will die, Verily, Allah is All-Knower, All- Aware (of things)' [Luqman 31:34]. But if you wish, I will tell you some of the signs of its approach." He said: Yes, O Messenger of Allah, tell me, The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said: "When you see the slave woman give birth to her mistress or her master, and you see the shepherds competing in the construction of lofty buildings, andyou see the barefoot, hungry dependents become prominent figures among the people, those are signs and portents of the Hour." He said: O Messenger of Allah, who are the shepherds and the barefoot, hungry dependents? He said: "The Arabs."

حَدَّثَنَا هَاشِمٌ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ يَعْنِي شَيْبَانَ عَنْ لَيْثٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ عَنْ عِكْرِمَةَ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَتَفَاءَلُ وَلَا يَتَطَيَّرُ وَيُعْجِبُهُ كُلُّ اسْمٍ حَسَنٍ

It was narrated that Ibn Abbas (RA) said: The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) interpreted things positively and was not pessimistic, and he liked every good name.

كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ يَتَفَاءَلُ وَلَا يَتَطَيَّرُ وَيُعْجِبُهُ كُلُّ اسْمٍ حَسَنٍ ← ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، ← عِكْرِمَةَ، ← عَبْد الْمَلِكِ؛ ← لَيْثٌ، ← أبو معاوية يعني شيبان ← هَاشِمٌ

حَدَّثَنَا هَاشِمٌ حَدَّثَنَا إِسْرَائِيلُ عَنْ سِمَاكٍ عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ عَنْ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ فِي قَوْلِهِ كُنْتُمْ خَيْرَ أُمَّةٍ أُخْرِجَتْ لِلنَّاسِ قَالَ الَّذِينَ هَاجَرُوا مَعَ مُحَمَّدٍ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِلَى الْمَدِينَةِ

It was narrated that Ibn 'Abbas (RA) said concerning the verse, "You (true believers in Islamic Monotheism, and real followers of Prophet Mhammad (PBUH) and his Sunnah ) are the best of peoples ever raised up for mankind" [AI Tmran 3:11]: [This refers to] those who migrated with Muhammad (PBUH) to Madinah.

الَّذِينَ هَاجَرُوا مَعَ مُحَمَّدٍ إلَى الْمَدِينَةِ. ← ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ فِي قَوْلِهِ {كُنْتُمْ خَيْرَ أمة أخرجت للنَّاس} ← سَعِيدِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ ← سِمَاكٍ، ← اِسْرَائِیْلُ ← هَاشِمٌ

حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو النَّضْرِ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي ذِئْبٍ عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ خَالِدٍ عَنْ إِسْمَاعِيلَ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ أَبِي ذُؤَيْبٍ عَنْ عَطَاءِ بْنِ يَسَارٍ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ جَاءَ أَوْ خَرَجَ عَلَيْهِمْ وَهُمْ جُلُوسٌ فَقَالَ أَلَا أُحَدِّثُكُمْ بِخَيْرِ النَّاسِ مَنْزِلًا قَالَ قُلْنَا بَلَى يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ قَالَ رَجُلٌ مُمْسِكٌ بِعَنَانِ فَرَسٍ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ حَتَّى يَمُوتَ أَوْ يُقْتَلَ ثُمَّ قَالَ أَلَا أُخْبِرُكُمْ بِالَّذِي يَلِيهِ قُلْنَا بَلَى يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ قَالَ امْرُؤٌ مُعْتَزِلٌ فِي شِعْبٍ يُقِيمُ الصَّلَاةَ وَيُؤْتِي الزَّكَاةَ وَيَعْتَزِلُ شُرُورَ النَّاسِ ثُمَّ قَالَ أَلَا أُخْبِرُكُمْ بِشَرِّ النَّاسِ مَنْزِلًا قَالَ قُلْنَا بَلَى يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ قَالَ الَّذِي يُسْأَلُ بِاللَّهِ وَلَا يُعْطِي بِهِ

It was narrated that Ibn 'Abbas (RA) said: The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) came or came out to them when they were sitting and said: "Shall I not tell you of the best of people in status?" We said: Yes, O Messenger of Allah. He said: "A man w'ho holds on to the head of a horse (in jihad) for the sake of Allah until he dies or is killed." Then he said: "Shall I not tell you of the one who comes next to him (in status)?" We said: Yes, O Messenger of Allah, He said: "A man who isolates himself in a mountain pass, establishing prayer, paying zakah and avoiding people's evil." Then he said: "Shall I not tell you of the worst of people in status?" We said: Yes, O Messenger of Allah. He said: "The one who is asked for the sake of Allah and does not give."

ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، ← عَطَاءِ بْنِ يَسَارٍ ← إِسْمَاعِيلَ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ أَبِي ذُؤَيْبٍ، ← سَعِيدِ بْنِ خَالِدٍ ← ابْنِ أَبِي ذِئْبٍ ← أَبُو النَّضْرِ،

حَدَّثَنَا حُسَيْنٌ أَخْبَرَنَا ابْنُ أَبِي ذِئْبٍ عَنْ سَعِيدٍ عَنْ إِسْمَاعِيلَ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ أَبِي ذُؤَيْبٍ عَنْ عَطَاءِ بْنِ يَسَارٍ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ عَنْ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ خَرَجَ عَلَيْهِمْ وَهُمْ جُلُوسٌ فَقَالَ أَلَا أُحَدِّثُكُمْ بِخَيْرِ النَّاسِ مَنْزِلَةً فَذَكَرَهُ

النَّبِيِّ خَرَجَ عَلَيْهِمْ وَهُمْ جُلُوسٌ فَقَالَ أَلَا أُحَدِّثُكُمْ بِخَيْرِ النَّاسِ مَنْزِلَةً فَذَكَرَهُ ← ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، ← عَطَاءِ بْنِ يَسَارٍ ← إِسْمَاعِيلَ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ أَبِي ذُؤَيْبٍ، ← سَعِيدٌ، ← ابْنِ أَبِي ذِئْبٍ ← حُسَيْنٌ

حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو النَّضْرِ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي ذِئْبٍ عَنِ الْقَاسِمِ بْنِ عَبَّاسٍ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يُعْطِي الْمَرْأَةَ وَالْمَمْلُوكَ مِنْ الْغَنَائِمِ مَا يُصِيبُ الْجَيْشَ

It was narrated from Ibn 'Abbas (RA) that the Prophet (PBUH) came out to them when they were sitting and said: "Shall i not tell you of the best of people in status?"... And he narrated a similar report.

كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ يُعْطِي الْمَرْأَةَ وَالْمَمْلُوكَ مِنْ الْغَنَائِمِ مَا يُصِيبُ الْجَيْشَ ← ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، ← الْقَاسِمِ بْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، ← ابْنِ أَبِي ذِئْبٍ ← أَبُو النَّضْرِ،

حَدَّثَنَاه حُسَيْنٌ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا ابْنُ أَبِي ذِئْبٍ عَنْ رَجُلٍ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ يُعْطِي الْعَبْدَ وَالْمَرْأَةَ مِنْ الْغَنَائِمِ

It was narrated from Ibn 'Abbas (RA) that the Prophet (PBUH) used to give to slaves and women from the booty.

ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، ← رَجُلٌ: ← ابْنِ أَبِي ذِئْبٍ ← حُسَيْنٌ

حَدَّثَنَاه يَزِيدُ قَالَ عَمَّنْ سَمِعَ ابْنَ عَبَّاسٍ وَقَالَ دُونَ مَا يُصِيبُ الْجَيْشَ

It was narrated from Ibn 'Abbas (RA) that the Prophet (PBUH) used to give to slaves and women from the booty.

ابْنَ عَبَّاسٍ وَقَالَ دُونَ مَا يُصِيبُ الْجَيْشَ ← عَمَّنْ ← يَزِيدُ:

حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو النَّضْرِ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي ذِئْبٍ عَنْ شُعْبَةَ أَنَّ الْمِسْوَرَ بْنَ مَخْرَمَةَ دَخَلَ عَلَى ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ يَعُودُهُ مِنْ وَجَعٍ وَعَلَيْهِ بُرْدٌ إِسْتَبْرَقٌ فَقُلْتُ يَا أَبَا عَبَّاسٍ مَا هَذَا الثَّوْبُ قَالَ وَمَا هُوَ قَالَ هَذَا الْإِسْتَبْرَقُ قَالَ وَاللَّهِ مَا عَلِمْتُ بِهِ وَمَا أَظُنُّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ نَهَى عَنْ هَذَا حِينَ نَهَى عَنْهُ إِلَّا لِلتَّجَبُّرِ وَالتَّكَبُّرِ وَلَسْنَا بِحَمْدِ اللَّهِ كَذَلِكَ قَالَ فَمَا هَذِهِ التَّصَاوِيرُ فِي الْكَانُونِ قَالَ أَلَا تَرَى قَدْ أَحْرَقْنَاهَا بِالنَّارِ فَلَمَّا خَرَجَ الْمِسْوَرُ قَالَ انْزَعُوا هَذَا الثَّوْبَ عَنِّي وَاقْطَعُوا رُءُوسَ هَذِهِ التَّمَاثِيلِ قَالُوا يَا أَبَا عَبَّاسٍ لَوْ ذَهَبْتَ بِهَا إِلَى السُّوقِ كَانَ أَنْفَقَ لَهَا مَعَ الرَّأْسِ قَالَ لَا فَأَمَرَ بِقَطْعِ رُءُوسِهَا

It was narrated from Shu'bah that al-Miswar bin Makhramah entered upon Ibn 'Abbas (RA) to visit him when he was sick, and he was wearing a cloak of brocade. He said: O Ibn 'Abbas, what is this garment? He said: Which one? He said: This brocade. He said: By Allah, I was not aware of it and I did not think that the Prophet (PBUH) forbade this when he forbade it, except for those who were arrogant and proud and we, praise be to Allah, are not like that. He said: What are these images in the stove? He said: Do you not see that we have burned them with fire? When al- Miswar left, he said: Take this garment away from me and cut off the heads of the images. They said: O Ibn 'Abbas, why don't you take it to the market? You could sell it for more if you leave the heads. He said: No. And he ordered that the heads be cut off.
