Musnad Imam Ahmad Bin Hanble

حَدَّثَنَا مُؤَمَّلٌ حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادٌ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عَاصِمٍ الْغَنَوِيُّ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ أَبَا الطُّفَيْلِ فَذَكَرَهُ إِلَّا أَنَّهُ قَالَ لَا تَنَالُهُ أَيْدِيهِمْ وَقَالَ وَثَمَّ تَلَّ إِبْرَاهِيمُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ لِلْجَبِينِ

It was narrated that Abut- Tufail said: I said to Ibn 'Abbas (RA): Your people are saying that the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) trotted around the House and that it is Sunncih. He said: They are telling the truth and they are lying. I said: How are they telling the truth and lying? He said: They are telling the truth, the Messenger of Allah (PBUH)did trot around the House, but they are lying because it is not Sunnah. At the time of al-Hudaibiyah, Quraish said: Leave Muhammad and his Companions alone until they die like the worm that falls from the nose of an animal [an-naghaf. said to belittle a man and remark on his weakness]. When it was agreed that they would come the following year and stay in Makkah for three days, the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) came and the mushrikeen were watching from the direction of Qu'aiqi'an. The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said to his Companions: "Trot around the House three times." But it is not Sunnah. I said: And your people say that he went between as-Safa and al-Marwah on a camel and that that is Sunnah. He said: They are telling the truth and they are lying. I said: How are they telling die truth and lying? He said: They are telling the truth, he did go between as-Safa and al-Marwah on a camel, but they are lying, because that is not Sunnah. The people would not stay away from the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) and would not disperse from around him, so he went between [as-Safa and al- Marwah] on a camel so that they could hear what he said and could not touch him. I said: And your people are claiming that the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) trotted between as-Safa and al-Marwah and that this is Sunnah. He said: They are telling the truth. When the rituals were enjoined upon lbraheem, the Shaitan appeared to him at the place of sa'y and started to race with him, but lbraheem beat him in the race. Then Jibreel (AS) took him to Jatnratal-'Aqabah, where a devil - Yoonus said: the Shaitan - appeared to him, so he stoned him with seven pebbles until he went away. Then he appeared to him at al-Jamratal - Wusta and he stoned him with seven pebbles. And when he lay him [Isma'eel] down on his face - and Isma'eel was wearing a white chemise - he said: O my father, I have no other garment that you may shroud me in except this, so let me take it off so that you can shroud me in it. He started taking it off, when a voice called from behind him: "O Ibraheem! You have fulfilled the dream!" [as- Saffat 37:104,105]. Ibraheem turned round and saw a wide-eyed, horned, white ram. Ibn 'Abbas said: I remember we used to look for this type of ram {for sacrifice). He said: Then Jibreel took him to al-Jamratal-Qu$wa, and the Shaitan appeared to him, and he stoned him with seven pebbles until he went away. Then Jibreel took him to Mina and said: This is Mina - Yoonus said: This is where the people halt. Then he took him to Muzdalifah and he said: This is al- Mash'ar al-Haram. Then he took him to 'Arafah - Ibn 'Abbas said: Do you know why it is called Arafah? I said: No. He said: Jibreel said to Ibraheem, 'Arafla (have you understood)? And he said: Yes. Ibn 'Abbas said: Because of that it is called 'Arafah, Then he said: Do you know how the Talbiyah came about? He said: How did it come about? He said: When Ibraheem was commanded to proclaim the Hajj to mankind, the mountains lowered their heads for him and the cities were raised up for him, and he proclaimed the Hajj to mankind.

لَا تَنَالُهُ أَيْدِيهِمْ وَقَالَ وَثَمَّ تَلَّ إِبْرَاهِيمُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ لِلْجَبِينِ ← أَبَا الطُّفَيْلِ فَذَكَرَهُ إِلَّا أَنَّهُ ← أَبُو عَاصِمٍ الْغَنَوِيُّ ← حَمَّادٌ، ← مُؤَمَّلٍ،

حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ عِيسَى قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا مَالِكٌ عَنْ أَبِي الزُّبَيْرِ عَنْ طَاوُسٍ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ يُعَلِّمُهُمْ هَذَا الدُّعَاءَ كَمَا يُعَلِّمُهُمْ السُّورَةَ مِنْ الْقُرْآنِ أَنْ يَقُولَ اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ عَذَابِ جَهَنَّمَ وَأَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ عَذَابِ الْقَبْرِ وَأَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ فِتْنَةِ الْمَسِيحِ الدَّجَّالِ وَأَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ فِتْنَةِ الْمَحْيَا وَالْمَمَاتِ

It was narrated from Ibn 'Abbas (RA) that the Messenger of Allah used to teach them this supplication as he would teach them a soorah of the Qur'an. He would say: "O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the torment of Hell, and I seek refuge in You from the torment of the grave, and I seek refuge in You from the turmoil of the Dajjal, and I seek refuge in You from the trials of life and death."

ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، ← طَاوْسٍ ← أَبِي الزُّبَيْرِ ← مَالِكٍ، ← إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ عِيسَى،

قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا مَالِكٌ عَنْ أَبِي الزُّبَيْرِ عَنْ طَاوُسٍ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ إِذَا قَامَ إِلَى الصَّلَاةِ مِنْ جَوْفِ اللَّيْلِ يَقُولُ اللَّهُمَّ لَكَ الْحَمْدُ أَنْتَ نُورُ السَّمَوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ وَلَكَ الْحَمْدُ أَنْتَ قَيَّامُ السَّمَوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ وَلَكَ الْحَمْدُ أَنْتَ رَبُّ السَّمَوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ وَمَنْ فِيهِنَّ أَنْتَ الْحَقُّ وَقَوْلُكَ الْحَقُّ وَوَعْدُكَ الْحَقُّ وَلِقَاؤُكَ حَقٌّ وَالْجَنَّةُ حَقٌّ وَالنَّارُ حَقٌّ وَالسَّاعَةُ حَقٌّ اللَّهُمَّ لَكَ أَسْلَمْتُ وَبِكَ آمَنْتُ وَعَلَيْكَ تَوَكَّلْتُ وَإِلَيْكَ أَنَبْتُ وَبِكَ خَاصَمْتُ وَإِلَيْكَ حَاكَمْتُ فَاغْفِرْ لِي مَا قَدَّمْتُ وَمَا أَخَّرْتُ وَمَا أَسْرَرْتُ وَأَعْلَنْتُ أَنْتَ الَّذِي لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا أَنْتَ

It was narrated from Ibn 'Abbas that the Messenger of Allah (RA) used to say, when he got up to pray in the middle of the night: "O Allah, to You be praise. You are the Light of the heavens and the earth. To You be praise, You are the Sustainer of the heavens and the earth. To You be praise, You are the Lord of the heavens and the earth and everyone in them. You are the Truth, Your promise is true, Your Word is true, the meeting with You is true. Paradise is true. Hell is true, the Hour is true. O Allah, to You I have submitted, in You I have believed, in You I have put my trust, to You I repent, by Your help I have disputed, to You I refer for judgement. So forgive me my past and future sins, what I have done secretly and openly. You are the One besides Whom there is no other god."

حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ يَعْنِي ابْنَ عِيسَى قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا مَالِكٌ عَنْ زَيْدٍ يَعْنِي ابْنَ أَسْلَمَ عَنْ عَطَاءِ بْنِ يَسَارٍ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ خَسَفَتْ الشَّمْسُ فَصَلَّى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَالنَّاسُ مَعَهُ فَقَامَ قِيَامًا طَوِيلًا قَالَ نَحْوًا مِنْ سُورَةِ الْبَقَرَةِ ثُمَّ رَكَعَ رُكُوعًا طَوِيلًا ثُمَّ رَفَعَ فَقَامَ قِيَامًا طَوِيلًا وَهُوَ دُونَ الْقِيَامِ الْأَوَّلِ ثُمَّ رَكَعَ رُكُوعًا طَوِيلًا وَهُوَ دُونَ الرُّكُوعِ الْأَوَّلِ ثُمَّ سَجَدَ ثُمَّ قَامَ فَقَامَ قِيَامًا طَوِيلًا وَهُوَ دُونَ الْقِيَامِ الْأَوَّلِ ثُمَّ رَكَعَ رُكُوعًا طَوِيلًا وَهُوَ دُونَ الرُّكُوعِ الْأَوَّلِ قَالَ عَبْد اللَّهِ قَالَ أَبِي وَفِيمَا قَرَأْتُ عَلَى عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ قَالَ ثُمَّ قَامَ قِيَامًا طَوِيلًا قَالَ دُونَ الْقِيَامِ الْأَوَّلِ ثُمَّ رَكَعَ رُكُوعًا طَوِيلًا وَهُوَ دُونَ الرُّكُوعِ الْأَوَّلِ ثُمَّ قَامَ قِيَامًا طَوِيلًا وَهُوَ دُونَ الْقِيَامِ الْأَوَّلِ ثُمَّ رَكَعَ رُكُوعًا طَوِيلًا وَهُوَ دُونَ الرُّكُوعِ الْأَوَّلِ ثُمَّ سَجَدَ ثُمَّ انْصَرَفَ ثُمَّ رَجَعَ إِلَى حَدِيثِ إِسْحَاقَ ثُمَّ انْصَرَفَ وَقَدْ تَجَلَّتْ الشَّمْسُ فَقَالَ إِنَّ الشَّمْسَ وَالْقَمَرَ آيَتَانِ مِنْ آيَاتِ اللَّهِ لَا يَخْسِفَانِ لِمَوْتِ أَحَدٍ وَلَا لِحَيَاتِهِ فَإِذَا رَأَيْتُمْ ذَلِكَ فَاذْكُرُوا اللَّهَ قَالُوا يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ رَأَيْنَاكَ تَنَاوَلْتَ شَيْئًا فِي مَقَامِكَ ثُمَّ رَأَيْنَاكَ تَكَعْكَعْتَ فَقَالَ إِنِّي رَأَيْتُ الْجَنَّةَ فَتَنَاوَلْتُ مِنْهَا عُنْقُودًا وَلَوْ أَخَذْتُهُ لَأَكَلْتُمْ مِنْهُ مَا بَقِيَتْ الدُّنْيَا وَرَأَيْتُ النَّارَ فَلَمْ أَرَ كَالْيَوْمِ مَنْظَرًا قَطُّ وَرَأَيْتُ أَكْثَرَ أَهْلِهَا النِّسَاءَ قَالُوا لِمَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ قَالَ بِكُفْرِهِنَّ قِيلَ أَيَكْفُرْنَ بِاللَّهِ قَالَ يَكْفُرْنَ الْعَشِيرَ وَيَكْفُرْنَ الْإِحْسَانَ لَوْ أَحْسَنْتَ إِلَى إِحْدَاهُنَّ الدَّهْرَ ثُمَّ رَأَتْ مِنْكَ شَيْئًا قَالَتْ مَا رَأَيْتُ مِنْكَ خَيْرًا قَطُّ

It was narrated that Ibn 'Abbas said: The sun was eclipsed at the time of the Messenger of Allah and the Messenger of Allah ) prayed and the people with him. He stood for a long time, almost as long as it takes to recite Soorat al-Baqarah.Then he bowed for a long time, then he raised his head and stood for a long time that was shorter than the first time. Then he bowed for a long time, that was shorter than the first time, then he prostrated, then he got up and stood for a long time, which was shorter than the first time. Then he bowed for a long time which was shorter than the first time. Then he raised his head and stood for a long time, which was shorter than the first time. Then he bowed for a long time which was shorter than the first time. Then he prostrated, then no sooner had he finished, but the sun became clear. He said: "The sun and the moon are two of the signs of Allah; they do not become eclipsed for the death or birth of anyone. If you see that, then remember Allah." They said: O Messenger of Allah, we saw you reaching out to take something when you were standing, then we saw you step backwards. He said: "l saw Paradise, and I reached out to take a bunch of grapes from it. If I had taken it, you would have eaten from it for as long as this world remained, And I saw Hell, and i have never seen anything like what I have seen today. I saw that most of its people are women." They said: Why is that, O Messenger of Allah? He said: "Because of their ungratefulness." It was said: Arc they ungrateful to Allah? He said: "They are ungrateful to their husbands and they are ungrateful for kind treatment. If you treat one of them kindly for a lifetime, then she sees something from you, she says, T have never seen anything good from you!"'

حَدَّثَنَا حَجَّاجٌ عَنِ ابْنِ جُرَيْجٍ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنِي ابْنُ أَبِي مُلَيْكَةَ أَنَّ حُمَيْدَ بْنَ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ عَوْفٍ أَخْبَرَهُ أَنَّ مَرْوَانَ قَالَ اذْهَبْ يَا رَافِعُ لِبَوَّابِهِ إِلَى ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ فَقُلْ لَئِنْ كَانَ كُلُّ امْرِئٍ مِنَّا فَرِحَ بِمَا أُوتِيَ وَأَحَبَّ أَنْ يُحْمَدَ بِمَا لَمْ يَفْعَلْ لَنُعَذَّبَنَّ أَجْمَعُونَ فَقَالَ ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ وَمَا لَكُمْ وَهَذِهِ إِنَّمَا نَزَلَتْ هَذِهِ فِي أَهْلِ الْكِتَابِ ثُمَّ تَلَا ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ وَإِذْ أَخَذَ اللَّهُ مِيثَاقَ الَّذِينَ أُوتُوا الْكِتَابَ لَتُبَيِّنُنَّهُ لِلنَّاسِ هَذِهِ الْآيَةَ وَتَلَا ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ لَا تَحْسَبَنَّ الَّذِينَ يَفْرَحُونَ بِمَا أَتَوْا وَيُحِبُّونَ أَنْ يُحْمَدُوا بِمَا لَمْ يَفْعَلُوا وَقَالَ ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ سَأَلَهُمْ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَنْ شَيْءٍ فَكَتَمُوهُ إِيَّاهُ وَأَخْبَرُوهُ بِغَيْرِهِ فَخَرَجُوا قَدْ أَرَوْهُ أَنْ قَدْ أَخْبَرُوهُ بِمَا سَأَلَهُمْ عَنْهُ وَاسْتَحْمَدُوا بِذَلِكَ إِلَيْهِ وَفَرِحُوا بِمَا أَتَوْا مِنْ كِتْمَانِهِمْ إِيَّاهُ مَا سَأَلَهُمْ عَنْهُ

Humaid bin 'Abdur- Rahman bin 'Awf narrated that Marwan said: Go, O Rafi' - to his gatekeeper - to Ibn 'Abbas and say: If every man among us who rejoices in what he has done and loves to be praised for what he has not done is to be punished, then we will all be punished. Ibn 'Abbas said: What does this verse have to do with you? This verse was revealed concerning the People of the Book. Then Ibn 'Abbas recited: "(And remember) when Allah took a covenant from those who were given the Scripture (Jews and Christians) to make it (the news of the coming of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and the religious knowledge) known and clear to mankind..'' [Al 'Imran 3:187], And lbn 'Abbas recited: "Think not that those who rejoice in what they have done (or brought about), and love to be praised for what they have not done" [Al 'Imran 3:188], Then lbn 'Abbas said: The Prophet (PBUH) asked them about something and they concealed it and told him some- thing else, and they went out thinking that he thought they had told him what he had asked them about, so they praised themselves and rejoiced over what they had done by concealing from him what he had asked them about.

ابْنِ أَبِي مُلَيْکَةَ ← ابْنُ جُرَيْجٍ، ← حجاج،

حَدَّثَنَا أَسْوَدُ بْنُ عَامِرٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ زَيْدٍ عَنْ يُوسُفَ بْنِ مِهْرَانَ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَوَّلُ مَنْ جَحَدَ آدَمُ قَالَهَا ثَلَاثَ مَرَّاتٍ إِنَّ اللَّهَ لَمَّا خَلَقَهُ مَسَحَ ظَهْرَهُ فَأَخْرَجَ ذُرِّيَّتَهُ فَعَرَضَهُمْ عَلَيْهِ فَرَأَى فِيهِمْ رَجُلًا يَزْهَرُ قَالَ أَيْ رَبِّ مَنْ هَذَا قَالَ ابْنُكَ دَاوُدُ قَالَ كَمْ عُمُرُهُ قَالَ سِتُّونَ قَالَ أَيْ رَبِّ زِدْ فِي عُمُرِهِ قَالَ لَا إِلَّا أَنْ تَزِيدَهُ أَنْتَ مِنْ عُمُرِكَ فَزَادَهُ أَرْبَعِينَ سَنَةً مِنْ عُمُرِهِ فَكَتَبَ اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ كِتَابًا وَأَشْهَدَ عَلَيْهِ الْمَلَائِكَةَ فَلَمَّا أَرَادَ أَنْ يَقْبِضَ رُوحَهُ قَالَ بَقِيَ مِنْ أَجَلِي أَرْبَعُونَ فَقِيلَ لَهُ إِنَّكَ جَعَلْتَهُ لِابْنِكَ دَاوُدَ قَالَ فَجَحَدَ قَالَ فَأَخْرَجَ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ الْكِتَابَ وَأَقَامَ عَلَيْهِ الْبَيِّنَةَ فَأَتَمَّهَا لِدَاوُدَ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَام مِائَةَ سَنَةٍ وَأَتَمَّهَا لِآدَمَ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَام عُمْرَهُ أَلْفَ سَنَةٍ

It was narrated that lbn 'Abbas (ife) said: The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said: "The first one to deny something was Adam (PBUH)," He said it three times. "When Allah created him. He wiped his back, and brought forth all of his progeny and showed them to him. Among them he saw a man with a bright, white face, and he said: 'O Lord, who is this?' He said: 'This is your son Da wood.' He said; 'O Lord, how long will his life be?' He said: 'Sixty years/ He said: 'O Lord, make his life longer’. He said: 'No, not unless 1 take it from your life.' So he gave him forty years from his own life and Allah recorded that in a Book and the angels bore witness to it. When He wanted to take his [Adam's] soul, he said: 'There are still forty years of my life left’ It was said to him: 'You gave that to your son Dawood,' But he denied it. Then Allah brought forth the Book and established proof against him, and he completed it for Dawood as one hundred years, and He completed it for Adam AS) as one thousand years."

ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، ← يوسف بن مهران ← عَلِيُّ بْنُ زَيْدٍ ← حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ، ← أَسْوَدُ بْنُ عَامِرٍ

حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو أَحْمَدَ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرٍ يَعْنِي النَّهْشَلِيَّ عَنْ حَبِيبِ بْنِ أَبِي ثَابِتٍ عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ الْجَزَّارِ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يُصَلِّي مِنْ اللَّيْلِ ثَمَانِيَ رَكَعَاتٍ وَيُوتِرُ بِثَلَاثٍ وَيُصَلِّ الرَّكْعَتَيْنِ فَلَمَّا كَبِرَ صَارَ إِلَى تِسْعٍ وَسِتٍّ وَثَلَاثٍ

It was narrated that Ibn 'Abbas (RA) said: The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) used to pray eight rak'ahs at night, and he would pray Witr with three rak'ahs, then pray the two rak'ahs. When he grew old, he settled with nine (altogether), six and three.

ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، ← يَحْيَى بْنِ الْجَزَّارِ، ← حَبِيبِ بْنِ أَبِي ثَابِتٍ ← أَبُو بَکْرٍ يَعْنِي النَّهْشَلِيَّ ← أَبُو أَحْمَدَ

حَدَّثَنَا عَتَّابُ بْنُ زِيَادٍ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا ابْنُ لَهِيعَةَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي ابْنُ هُبَيْرَةَ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنِي مَنْ سَمِعَ ابْنَ عَبَّاسٍ يَقُولُ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ اتَّقُوا الْمَلَاعِنَ الثَّلَاثَ قِيلَ مَا الْمَلَاعِنُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ قَالَ أَنْ يَقْعُدَ أَحَدُكُمْ فِي ظِلٍّ يُسْتَظَلُّ فِيهِ أَوْ فِي طَرِيقٍ أَوْ فِي نَقْعِ مَاءٍ

Ibn Hubairah narrated; Someone who heard it told me that Ibn 'Abbas (RA) said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) say: "Fear the three things that incur curses." It was said: What are the things that incur curses, O Messenger of Allah? He said: "Relieving oneself in a place where people seek shade, in the road or in a pond."

اتَّقُوا الْمَلَاعِنَ الثَّلَاثَ قِيلَ مَا الْمَلَاعِنُ ← رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ← ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، ← مَنْ ← ابن هبيرة ← ابْنُ لَهِيعَةَ ← عَبْدُ اللَّهِ ← عَتَّابُ بْنُ زِيَادٍ،

حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو سَلَمَةَ الْخُزَاعِيُّ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا لَيْثٌ عَنْ أَبِي الزُّبَيْرِ عَنْ عَطَاءٍ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ احْتَجَمَ وَهُوَ صَائِمٌ

It was narrated from Ibn 'Abbas (RA) that the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) was treated with cupping when he was in ihram.

ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، ← عَطَاءٍ، ← أَبِي الزُّبَيْرِ ← لَيْثٌ، ← أَبُو سَلَمَةَ الْخُزَاعِيُّ

حَدَّثَنَا يَعْقُوبُ حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ أَخِي ابْنِ شِهَابٍ عَنْ عَمِّهِ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُتْبَةَ أَنَّ ابْنَ عَبَّاسٍ حَدَّثَهُ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ أَقْرَأَنِي جِبْرِيلُ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَام عَلَى حَرْفٍ فَرَاجَعْتُهُ فَلَمْ أَزَلْ أَسْتَزِيدُهُ وَيَزِيدُنِي حَتَّى انْتَهَى إِلَى سَبْعَةِ أَحْرُفٍ

Ibn 'Abbas (RA) narrated that the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said: "Jibreel (AS) taught me the Qur'an with one mode of recitation but I asked him to recite it in another way and I kept asking him for more and he taught me more, until he ended up teaching me seven modes of recitation.”

عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُتْبَةَ أَنَّ ابْنَ عَبَّاسٍ ← عَمِّہٖ ← ابْنُ أَخِي ابْنِ شِهَابٍ ← يَعْقُوبُ،

حَدَّثَنَا يُونُسُ حَدَّثَنَا حِبَّانُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ حَدَّثَنَا عُقَيْلُ بْنُ خَالِدٍ عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُتْبَةَ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ خَيْرُ الْأَصْحَابِ أَرْبَعَةٌ وَخَيْرُ السَّرَايَا أَرْبَعُ مِائَةٍ وَخَيْرُ الْجُيُوشِ أَرْبَعَةُ آلَافٍ قَالَ وَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لَنْ يُغْلَبَ قَوْمٌ عَنْ قِلَّةٍ يَبْلُغُونَ أَنْ يَكُونُوا اثْنَيْ عَشَرَ أَلْفًا

It was narrated that Ibn 'Abbas (RA) said: The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said: "The best number for companionship is four, the best number for an expedition is four hundred and the best number for an army is four thousand.” And the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said: "People will never be defeated due to being too few in number if their number reaches twelve thousand.”

حَدَّثَنَا زَكَرِيَّا بْنُ عَدِيٍّ أَخْبَرَنَا عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ عَنْ عَبْدِ الْكَرِيمِ عَنْ عِكْرِمَةَ عَنْ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ خَرَجَ رَجُلٌ مِنْ خَيْبَرَ فَاتَّبَعَهُ رَجُلَانِ وَآخَرُ يَتْلُوهُمَا يَقُولُ ارْجِعَا ارْجِعَا حَتَّى رَدَّهُمَا ثُمَّ لَحِقَ الْأَوَّلَ فَقَالَ إِنَّ هَذَيْنِ شَيْطَانَانِ وَإِنِّي لَمْ أَزَلْ بِهِمَا حَتَّى رَدَدْتُهُمَا فَإِذَا أَتَيْتَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَأَقْرِئْهُ السَّلَامَ وَأَخْبِرْهُ أَنَّا هَاهُنَا فِي جَمْعِ صَدَقَاتِنَا وَلَوْ كَانَتْ تَصْلُحُ لَهُ لَبَعَثْنَا بِهَا إِلَيْهِ قَالَ فَلَمَّا قَدِمَ الرَّجُلُ الْمَدِينَةَ أَخْبَرَ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَعِنْدَ ذَلِكَ نَهَى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَنْ الْخَلْوَةِ

It was narrated from Ibn 'Abbas (RA) that a man set out and two men followed him, and another man followed them, saying: Go back, go back, until he sent them back. Then he caught up with the first man and said: These two were two devils, and I kept on at them until I sent them back. When you go to the Prophet (PBUH), convey our salams to him and tell him that I am collecting their zakah; if it was good for him we would have sent it to him. When the man came to Madinah, he told the Prophet (PBUH) about that, and as a result of that, the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) forbade travelling alone.
