حَدَّثَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ نُمَيْرٍ حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي ح و حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَکْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو أُسَامَةَ قَالَا حَدَّثَنَا عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ ح و حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّی وَاللَّفْظُ لَهُ أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ الْوَهَّابِ يَعْنِي الثَّقَفِيَّ حَدَّثَنَا عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ عَنْ نَافِعٍ عَنْ ابْنِ عُمَرَ عَنْ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ مَثَلُ الْمُنَافِقِ کَمَثَلِ الشَّاةِ الْعَائِرَةِ بَيْنَ الْغَنَمَيْنِ تَعِيرُ إِلَی هَذِهِ مَرَّةً وَإِلَی هَذِهِ مَرَّةً

Ibn Umar reported Allah's Apostle ( ‌صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ‌ ) as saying: The similitude of a hypocrite is that of a sheep which roams aimlessly between two flocks. She goes to one at one time and to the other at another time.

حَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ حَدَّثَنَا يَعْقُوبُ يَعْنِي ابْنَ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ الْقَارِيَّ عَنْ مُوسَی بْنِ عُقْبَةَ عَنْ نَافِعٍ عَنْ ابْنِ عُمَرَ عَنْ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِمِثْلِهِ غَيْرَ أَنَّهُ قَالَ تَکِرُّ فِي هَذِهِ مَرَّةً وَفِي هَذِهِ مَرَّةً

Ibn Umar reported Allah's Apostle ( ‌صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ‌ ) saying like this but with this change of words: She sometimes finds a way in one flock and then in another flock.

حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو بَکْرِ بْنُ إِسْحَقَ حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَی بْنُ بُکَيْرٍ حَدَّثَنِي الْمُغِيرَةُ يَعْنِي الْحِزَامِيَّ عَنْ أَبِي الزِّنَادِ عَنْ الْأَعْرَجِ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ إِنَّهُ لَيَأْتِي الرَّجُلُ الْعَظِيمُ السَّمِينُ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ لَا يَزِنُ عِنْدَ اللَّهِ جَنَاحَ بَعُوضَةٍ اقْرَئُوا فَلَا نُقِيمُ لَهُمْ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ وَزْنًا

Abu Huraira reported Allah's Messenger ( ‌صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ‌ ) as saying: A bulky person would be brought on the Day of judgment and he would not carry the weight to the eye of Allah equal even to that of a gnat. Nor shall We set up a balance for them on the Day of Resurrection (xviii. 105).

Abu Huraira reported Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him as saying that Allah thus stated: I live in the thought of My servant as he thinks of Me and with him as he calls Me.

حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بَشَّارِ بْنِ عُثْمَانَ الْعَبْدِيُّ حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَی يَعْنِي ابْنَ سَعِيدٍ وَابْنُ أَبِي عَدِيٍّ عَنْ سُلَيْمَانَ وَهُوَ التَّيْمِيُّ عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِکٍ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ عَنْ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ قَالَ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ إِذَا تَقَرَّبَ عَبْدِي مِنِّي شِبْرًا تَقَرَّبْتُ مِنْهُ ذِرَاعًا وَإِذَا تَقَرَّبَ مِنِّي ذِرَاعًا تَقَرَّبْتُ مِنْهُ بَاعًا أَوْ بُوعًا وَإِذَا أَتَانِي يَمْشِي أَتَيْتُهُ هَرْوَلَةً

Abu Huraira reported Allah's Apostle ( ‌صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ‌ ) as saying that Allah, the Exalted and Glorious, said: When My servant draws close to Me by the span of a palm, I draw close to him by the cubit and when he draws close to Me by the cubit, I draw close to him by the space (covered) by two armspans, and when he comes to me walking, I go in a hurry towards him.

حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْأَعْلَی الْقَيْسِيُّ حَدَّثَنَا مُعْتَمِرٌ عَنْ أَبِيهِ بِهَذَا الْإِسْنَادِ وَلَمْ يَذْکُرْ إِذَا أَتَانِي يَمْشِي أَتَيْتُهُ هَرْوَلَةً

This hadith has been narrated on the authority of Mu'tamar from his father with the same chain of transmitters, with a slight variation of wording.

حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَکْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ وَأَبُو کُرَيْبٍ وَاللَّفْظُ لِأَبِي کُرَيْبٍ قَالَا حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ عَنْ الْأَعْمَشِ عَنْ أَبِي صَالِحٍ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ أَنَا عِنْدَ ظَنِّ عَبْدِي وَأَنَا مَعَهُ حِينَ يَذْکُرُنِي فَإِنْ ذَکَرَنِي فِي نَفْسِهِ ذَکَرْتُهُ فِي نَفْسِي وَإِنْ ذَکَرَنِي فِي مَلَإٍ ذَکَرْتُهُ فِي مَلَإٍ خَيْرٍ مِنْهُ وَإِنْ اقْتَرَبَ إِلَيَّ شِبْرًا تَقَرَّبْتُ إِلَيْهِ ذِرَاعًا وَإِنْ اقْتَرَبَ إِلَيَّ ذِرَاعًا اقْتَرَبْتُ إِلَيْهِ بَاعًا وَإِنْ أَتَانِي يَمْشِي أَتَيْتُهُ هَرْوَلَةً

Abu Huraira reported Allah's Messenger ( ‌صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ‌ ) as saying that Allah, the Exalted and Glorious, thus stated: I live in the thought of My servant as he thinks about Me, and I am with him, as he remembers Me. And if he remembers Me in his heart, I also remember him in My Heart, and if he remembers Me in assembly I remember him in the assembly, better than he (does that), and if he draws near Me by the span of a palm I draw near him by the cubit, and if he draws near Me by the cubit I draw near him by the space (covered by) two hands. And if he walks towards Me, I rush towards him.

حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَکْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ حَدَّثَنَا وَکِيعٌ حَدَّثَنَا الْأَعْمَشُ عَنْ الْمَعْرُورِ بْنِ سُوَيْدٍ عَنْ أَبِي ذَرٍّ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ مَنْ جَائَ بِالْحَسَنَةِ فَلَهُ عَشْرُ أَمْثَالِهَا وَأَزِيدُ وَمَنْ جَائَ بِالسَّيِّئَةِ فَجَزَاؤُهُ سَيِّئَةٌ مِثْلُهَا أَوْ أَغْفِرُ وَمَنْ تَقَرَّبَ مِنِّي شِبْرًا تَقَرَّبْتُ مِنْهُ ذِرَاعًا وَمَنْ تَقَرَّبَ مِنِّي ذِرَاعًا تَقَرَّبْتُ مِنْهُ بَاعًا وَمَنْ أَتَانِي يَمْشِي أَتَيْتُهُ هَرْوَلَةً وَمَنْ لَقِيَنِي بِقُرَابِ الْأَرْضِ خَطِيئَةً لَا يُشْرِکُ بِي شَيْئًا لَقِيتُهُ بِمِثْلِهَا مَغْفِرَةً قَالَ إِبْرَاهِيمُ حَدَّثَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ بِشْرٍ حَدَّثَنَا وَکِيعٌ بِهَذَا الْحَدِيثِ

Abu Dharr reported Allah's Messenger ( ‌صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ‌ ) as saying that Allah, the Exalted and Glorious, stated: He who comes with goodness, there are in store for him ten like those and even more than those: 'And he who comes with vice, ' it is only for that that he is called to account. I even forgive him (as I like) and he who draws close to Me by the span of a palm I draw close to him by the cubit, and he who draws close to Me by the cubit I draw close to him by the space (covered) by two hands, and he who walks towards Me I rush towards him, and he who meets Me in the state that his sins fill the earth, but not associating anything with Me, I would meet Him with the same (vastness) of pardon (on My behalf). This hadith has been transmitted on the authority of Waki'.

A hadith like this has been transmitted on the authority of A'mash with the same chain of transmitters and he (further) said: There is for him ten like that (the good he performed) or more than that.

حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الْخَطَّابِ زِيَادُ بْنُ يَحْيَی الْحَسَّانِيُّ حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَبِي عَدِيٍّ عَنْ حُمَيْدٍ عَنْ ثَابِتٍ عَنْ أَنَسٍ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَادَ رَجُلًا مِنْ الْمُسْلِمِينَ قَدْ خَفَتَ فَصَارَ مِثْلَ الْفَرْخِ فَقَالَ لَهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ هَلْ کُنْتَ تَدْعُو بِشَيْئٍ أَوْ تَسْأَلُهُ إِيَّاهُ قَالَ نَعَمْ کُنْتُ أَقُولُ اللَّهُمَّ مَا کُنْتَ مُعَاقِبِي بِهِ فِي الْآخِرَةِ فَعَجِّلْهُ لِي فِي الدُّنْيَا فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ سُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ لَا تُطِيقُهُ أَوْ لَا تَسْتَطِيعُهُ أَفَلَا قُلْتَ اللَّهُمَّ آتِنَا فِي الدُّنْيَا حَسَنَةً وَفِي الْآخِرَةِ حَسَنَةً وَقِنَا عَذَابَ النَّارِ قَالَ فَدَعَا اللَّهَ لَهُ فَشَفَاهُ

Anas reported that Allah's Messenger ( ‌صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ‌ ) visited a person from amongst the Muslims in order to inquire (about his health) who had grown feeble like the chicken. Allah's Messenger ( ‌صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ‌ ) said: Did you supplicate for anything or beg of Him about that? He said: Yes. I used to utter (these words): Impose punishment upon me earlier in this world, what Thou art going to impose upon me in the Hereafter. Thereupon Allah's Messenger ( ‌صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ‌ ) said: Hallowed be Allah, you have neither the power nor forbearance to take upon yourself (the burden of His Punishment). Why did you not say this: O Allah, grant us good in the world and good in the Hereafter, and save us from the torment of Fire. He (the Holy Prophet) made this supplication (for him) and he was all right.

حَدَّثَنَاه عَاصِمُ بْنُ النَّضْرِ التَّيْمِيُّ حَدَّثَنَا خَالِدُ بْنُ الْحَارِثِ حَدَّثَنَا حُمَيْدٌ بِهَذَا الْإِسْنَادِ إِلَی قَوْلِهِ وَقِنَا عَذَابَ النَّارِ وَلَمْ يَذْکُرْ الزِّيَادَةَ

This hadith has been narrated on the authority of Humaid with the same chain of transmitters, but with a slight variation of wording.

حُمَيْدٌ بِهَذَا الْإِسْنَادِ إِلَی قَوْلِهِ وَقِنَا عَذَابَ النَّارِ وَلَمْ يَذْکُرْ الزِّيَادَةَ ← خَالِدُ بْنُ الْحَارِثِ ← عَاصِمُ بْنُ النَّضْرِ التَّيْمِيُّ

و حَدَّثَنِي زُهَيْرُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادٌ أَخْبَرَنَا ثَابِتٌ عَنْ أَنَسٍ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ دَخَلَ عَلَی رَجُلٍ مِنْ أَصْحَابِهِ يَعُودُهُ وَقَدْ صَارَ کَالْفَرْخِ بِمَعْنَی حَدِيثِ حُمَيْدٍ غَيْرَ أَنَّهُ قَالَ لَا طَاقَةَ لَکَ بِعَذَابِ اللَّهِ وَلَمْ يَذْکُرْ فَدَعَا اللَّهَ لَهُ فَشَفَاهُ

Anas reported that Allah's Messenger ( ‌صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ‌ ) visited a person from amongst his Companions who had grown as feeble as the chicken. The rest of the hadith is the same, but with this variation that he (the Holy Prophet) said: You have not power enough to undergo the torment imposed by Allah. And there is no mention of: He supplicated Allah for him and He cured him.
