أَخْبَرَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ عَنْ مَالِکٍ عَنْ شَرِيکِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي نَمِرٍ عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِکٍ قَالَ جَائَ رَجُلٌ إِلَی رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ هَلَکَتْ الْمَوَاشِي وَانْقَطَعَتْ السُّبُلُ فَادْعُ اللَّهَ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ فَدَعَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَمُطِرْنَا مِنْ الْجُمُعَةِ إِلَی الْجُمُعَةِ فَجَائَ رَجُلٌ إِلَی رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ تَهَدَّمَتْ الْبُيُوتُ وَانْقَطَعَتْ السُّبُلُ وَهَلَکَتْ الْمَوَاشِي فَقَالَ اللَّهُمَّ عَلَی رُئُوسِ الْجِبَالِ وَالْآکَامِ وَبُطُونِ الْأَوْدِيَةِ وَمَنَابِتِ الشَّجَرِ فَانْجَابَتْ عَنْ الْمَدِينَةِ انْجِيَابَ الثَّوْبِ

It was narrated that Anas bin Malik said: “A man came to the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم and said: ‘Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم, the livestock have died and the routes have been cut off; pray to Allah, the Mighty and Sublime.’ So the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم prayed to Allah and it rained from that Friday until the next. Then a man came to the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم and said: ‘The houses have been destroyed, the routes have been cut off and the livestock have died.’ He said: ‘Allah, on the tops of the mountains and hills, in the bottom of the valleys and where the trees grow.’ So (the rain) was lifted from Al-Madinah like a garment being removed.”(Sahih).

أَخْبَرَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مَنْصُورٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا الْمَسْعُودِيُّ عَنْ أَبِي بَکْرِ بْنِ عَمْرِو بْنِ حَزْمٍ عَنْ عَبَّادِ بْنِ تَمِيمٍ قَالَ سُفْيَانُ فَسَأَلْتُ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ أَبِي بَکْرٍ فَقَالَ سَمِعْتُهُ مِنْ عَبَّادِ بْنِ تَمِيمٍ يُحَدِّثُ أَبِي أَنَّ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ زَيْدٍ الَّذِي أُرِيَ النِّدَائَ قَالَ إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ خَرَجَ إِلَی الْمُصَلَّی يَسْتَسْقِي فَاسْتَقْبَلَ الْقِبْلَةَ وَقَلَبَ رِدَائَهُ وَصَلَّی رَکْعَتَيْنِ قَالَ أَبُو عَبْد الرَّحْمَنِ هَذَا غَلَطٌ مِنْ ابْنِ عُيَيْنَةَ وَعَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ زَيْدٍ الَّذِي أُرِيَ النِّدَائَ هُوَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ زَيْدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ رَبِّهِ وَهَذَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ زَيْدِ بْنِ عَاصِمٍ

It was narrated from ‘Abbad bin Tamim: “Sufyan said: ‘I asked ‘Abdullah bin Abi Bakr who said: “I heard it from ‘Abbad bin Tamim who narrated it from his father, that ‘Abdullah bin Zaid, who was shown the call to prayer (in a dream), said: ‘The Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم :h went out to the prayer place to pray for rain. He faced the Qiblah and turned his cloak around, and prayed two Rak’ahs.” AbuI ‘Abdur-Rahman (An-Nasa’i) said: This is a mistake on the part of Ibn ‘Uyaynah. ‘Abdullah bin Zaid who was shown the call to prayer was ‘Abdullah bin Zaid bin ‘Abdur-Rabbih, and this is ‘Abdullah bin Zaid bin ‘Asim. (Sahih)

أَخْبَرَنَا إِسْحَقُ بْنُ مَنْصُورٍ وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّی عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ عَنْ سُفْيَانَ عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ إِسْحَقَ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ کِنَانَةَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ قَالَ أَرْسَلَنِي فُلَانٌ إِلَی ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ أَسْأَلُهُ عَنْ صَلَاةِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي الِاسْتِسْقَائِ فَقَالَ خَرَجَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مُتَضَرِّعًا مُتَوَاضِعًا مُتَبَذِّلًا فَلَمْ يَخْطُبْ نَحْوَ خُطْبَتِکُمْ هَذِهِ فَصَلَّی رَکْعَتَيْنِ

It was narrated from Hisham bin Is bin ‘Abdullah bin Kinanah that his father said: “So and so sent me to Ibn ‘Abbas to ask him how the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم prayed for rain (Istisqa’). He said: ‘The Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم went out beseeching and bumble, (dressed) in a state of humility. He did not give a Khulbah like this Khutbah of yours, and he prayed two Rak’ahs.” (Hasan)

أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عُبَيْدِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا حَاتِمُ بْنُ إِسْمَعِيلَ عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ إِسْحَقَ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ کِنَانَةَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ قَالَ سَأَلْتُ ابْنَ عَبَّاسٍ عَنْ صَلَاةِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي الِاسْتِسْقَائِ فَقَالَ خَرَجَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مُتَبَذِّلًا مُتَوَاضِعًا مُتَضَرِّعًا فَجَلَسَ عَلَی الْمِنْبَرِ فَلَمْ يَخْطُبْ خُطْبَتَکُمْ هَذِهِ وَلَکِنْ لَمْ يَزَلْ فِي الدُّعَائِ وَالتَّضَرُّعِ وَالتَّکْبِيرِ وَصَلَّی رَکْعَتَيْنِ کَمَا کَانَ يُصَلِّي فِي الْعِيدَيْنِ

It was narrated from Hisham bin Ishaq bin ‘Abdullah bin Kinanah that his father said: “I asked Ibn ‘Abbas how the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم prayed for rain. He said: ‘The Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم :, went out (dressed) in a state of humility, beseeching and humble. He sat on the Minbar but he did not deliver a Khutbah like this Khutbah of yours, rather he kept supplicating, beseeching and saying the Takbir, and he prayed two Rak’ahs as he used to do during the two ‘Eids.” (Hasan)

أَخْبَرَنِي عَمْرُو بْنُ عُثْمَانَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا الْوَلِيدُ عَنْ ابْنِ أَبِي ذِئْبٍ عَنْ الزُّهْرِيِّ عَنْ عَبَّادِ بْنِ تَمِيمٍ أَنَّ عَمَّهُ حَدَّثَهُ أَنَّهُ خَرَجَ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَسْتَسْقِي فَحَوَّلَ رِدَائَهُ وَحَوَّلَ لِلنَّاسِ ظَهْرَهُ وَدَعَا ثُمَّ صَلَّی رَکْعَتَيْنِ فَقَرَأَ فَجَهَرَ

It was narrated from ‘Abbad bin Tamim that his paternal uncle had told him that he went out with the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم to pray for rain. He turned his Rida’ around, and turned his back to the people, then he prayed two Rak’ahs and recited loudly. (Sahih)

It was narrated from ‘Abbad bin Tamim, from his paternal uncle, that he saw the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم when he prayed for rain, turn to face the Qiblah, turning his cloak around and raising his hands. (Sahih)

أَخْبَرَنِي شُعَيْبُ بْنُ يُوسُفَ عَنْ يَحْيَی بْنِ سَعِيدٍ الْقَطَّانِ عَنْ سَعِيدٍ عَنْ قَتَادَةَ عَنْ أَنَسٍ قَالَ کَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لَا يَرْفَعُ يَدَيْهِ فِي شَيْئٍ مِنْ الدُّعَائِ إِلَّا فِي الِاسْتِسْقَائِ فَإِنَّهُ کَانَ يَرْفَعُ يَدَيْهِ حَتَّی يُرَی بَيَاضُ إِبْطَيْهِ

It was narrated that Anas said: “The Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم did not raise his hands during any supplication except when praying for rain, when he used to raise his hands so high that the whiteness of his armpits could be seen.” (Sahih)

It was narrated from Abi Al Lahm that he saw the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم at Ahjar Az-Zait, praying for rain and raising his hands, making supplications.(Sahih)

أَخْبَرَنَا عِيسَی بْنُ حَمَّادٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا اللَّيْثُ عَنْ سَعِيدٍ وَهُوَ الْمَقْبُرِيُّ عَنْ شَرِيکِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي نَمِرٍ عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِکٍ أَنَّهُ سَمِعَهُ يَقُولُ بَيْنَا نَحْنُ فِي الْمَسْجِدِ يَوْمَ الْجُمُعَةِ وَرَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَخْطُبُ النَّاسَ فَقَامَ رَجُلٌ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ تَقَطَّعَتْ السُّبُلُ وَهَلَکَتْ الْأَمْوَالُ وَأَجْدَبَ الْبِلَادُ فَادْعُ اللَّهَ أَنْ يَسْقِيَنَا فَرَفَعَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَدَيْهِ حِذَائَ وَجْهِهِ فَقَالَ اللَّهُمَّ اسْقِنَا فَوَاللَّهِ مَا نَزَلَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَنْ الْمِنْبَرِ حَتَّی أُوسِعْنَا مَطَرًا وَأُمْطِرْنَا ذَلِکَ الْيَوْمَ إِلَی الْجُمُعَةِ الْأُخْرَی فَقَامَ رَجُلٌ لَا أَدْرِي هُوَ الَّذِي قَالَ لِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ اسْتَسْقِ لَنَا أَمْ لَا فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ انْقَطَعَتْ السُّبُلُ وَهَلَکَتْ الْأَمْوَالُ مِنْ کَثْرَةِ الْمَائِ فَادْعُ اللَّهَ أَنْ يُمْسِکَ عَنَّا الْمَائَ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ اللَّهُمَّ حَوَالَيْنَا وَلَا عَلَيْنَا وَلَکِنْ عَلَی الْجِبَالِ وَمَنَابِتِ الشَّجَرِ قَالَ وَاللَّهِ مَا هُوَ إِلَّا أَنْ تَکَلَّمَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِذَلِکَ تَمَزَّقَ السَّحَابُ حَتَّی مَا نَرَی مِنْهُ شَيْئًا

It was narrated from Anas bin Malik that he said: “While we Were in the Masjid one Friday and the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم :, was addressing the people, a man stood up and said: ‘Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم, the routes have been cut off, our wealth has been destroyed and prices have gone up. Pray to Allah to give us rain.’ So the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم raised his hands in level with his face and said: ‘Allah, give us rain.’ By Allah, the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم had not come down from the Mm bar before it started to pour with rain, and it rained from that day until the following Friday. Then a man stood up — I do not know if he was the same man who had asked the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم to pray for rain for us or not — and said: ‘Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم, the routes have been cut off, and our wealth has been destroyed because there is too much water. Pray to Allah to stop the rain for us.’ The Messenger of Allah said: ‘Allah, around us and not on us, rather on the mountains and places where trees grow.’ By Allah, hardly had the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم spoken these words than the clouds split apart (and vanished) until we could not see anything of them.” (Sahih)
