أَخْبَرَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ حُجْرِ بْنِ إِيَاسِ بْنِ مُقَاتِلِ بْنِ مُشَمْرِجِ بْنِ خَالِدٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَعِيلُ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا الْعَلَائُ أَنَّهُ دَخَلَ عَلَی أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِکٍ فِي دَارِهِ بِالْبَصْرَةِ حِينَ انْصَرَفَ مِنْ الظُّهْرِ وَدَارُهُ بِجَنْبِ الْمَسْجِدِ فَلَمَّا دَخَلْنَا عَلَيْهِ قَالَ أَصَلَّيْتُمْ الْعَصْرَ قُلْنَا لَا إِنَّمَا انْصَرَفْنَا السَّاعَةَ مِنْ الظُّهْرِ قَالَ فَصَلُّوا الْعَصْرَ قَالَ فَقُمْنَا فَصَلَّيْنَا فَلَمَّا انْصَرَفْنَا قَالَ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ تِلْکَ صَلَاةُ الْمُنَافِقِ جَلَسَ يَرْقُبُ صَلَاةَ الْعَصْرِ حَتَّی إِذَا کَانَتْ بَيْنَ قَرْنَيْ الشَّيْطَانِ قَامَ فَنَقَرَ أَرْبَعًا لَا يَذْکُرُ اللَّهَ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ فِيهَا إِلَّا قَلِيلًا

Al-’Ala’ narrated to us that he entered upon Anas bin Malik in his house in Al-Basrah, when he had finished Zuhr, and his house was beside the Masjid. “When we entered upon him, he said: ‘Have you prayed ‘Asr?’ We said: ‘No, we have just finished Zuhr.’ He said: ‘Pray ‘Asr.’ So we got up and prayed, and when we finished he said: ‘I heard the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم say: “That is the prayer of the hypocrite: he sits and delays ‘Asr prayer until (the sun) is between the horns of the Shai then he gets up and pecks four (Rak’ahs) in which he only remembers Allah a little.” (Sahih)

أَخْبَرَنَا إِسْحَقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ عَنْ الزُّهْرِيِّ عَنْ سَالِمٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ الَّذِي تَفُوتُهُ صَلَاةُ الْعَصْرِ فَکَأَنَّمَا وُتِرَ أَهْلَهُ وَمَالَهُ

الَّذِي تَفُوتُهُ صَلَاةُ الْعَصْرِ فَکَأَنَّمَا وُتِرَ أَهْلَهُ وَمَالَهُ ← رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ← أَبِيهِ ← سَالِمٍ ← الزُّهْرِيِّ، ← سُفْيَانَ، ← إِسْحَقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ

أَخْبَرَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ عَنْ مَالِكٍ عَنْ نَافِعٍ عَنْ ابْنِ عُمَرَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ الَّذِي تَفُوتُهُ صَلَاةُ الْعَصْرِ فَكَأَنَّمَا وُتِرَ أَهْلَهُ وَمَالَهُ

It was narrated from Salim, from his father, that the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم said: “The one who misses Asr prayer, it is as if he has been robbed of his family and his wealth.” (Sahih)

أَخْبَرَنَا يُوسُفُ بْنُ وَاضِحٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا قُدَامَةُ يَعْنِي ابْنَ شِهَابٍ عَنْ بُرْدٍ عَنْ عَطَائِ بْنِ أَبِي رَبَاحٍ عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ أَنَّ جِبْرِيلَ أَتَی النَّبِيَّ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يُعَلِّمُهُ مَوَاقِيتَ الصَّلَاةِ فَتَقَدَّمَ جِبْرِيلُ وَرَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ خَلْفَهُ وَالنَّاسُ خَلْفَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَصَلَّی الظُّهْرَ حِينَ زَالَتْ الشَّمْسُ وَأَتَاهُ حِينَ کَانَ الظِّلُّ مِثْلَ شَخْصِهِ فَصَنَعَ کَمَا صَنَعَ فَتَقَدَّمَ جِبْرِيلُ وَرَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ خَلْفَهُ وَالنَّاسُ خَلْفَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَصَلَّی الْعَصْرَ ثُمَّ أَتَاهُ حِينَ وَجَبَتْ الشَّمْسُ فَتَقَدَّمَ جِبْرِيلُ وَرَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ خَلْفَهُ وَالنَّاسُ خَلَفَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَصَلَّی الْمَغْرِبَ ثُمَّ أَتَاهُ حِينَ غَابَ الشَّفَقُ فَتَقَدَّمَ جِبْرِيلُ وَرَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ خَلْفَهُ وَالنَّاسُ خَلْفَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَصَلَّی الْعِشَائَ ثُمَّ أَتَاهُ حِينَ انْشَقَّ الْفَجْرُ فَتَقَدَّمَ جِبْرِيلُ وَرَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ خَلْفَهُ وَالنَّاسُ خَلْفَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَصَلَّی الْغَدَاةَ ثُمَّ أَتَاهُ الْيَوْمَ الثَّانِيَ حِينَ کَانَ ظِلُّ الرَّجُلِ مِثْلَ شَخْصِهِ فَصَنَعَ مِثْلَ مَا صَنَعَ بِالْأَمْسِ فَصَلَّی الظُّهْرَ ثُمَّ أَتَاهُ حِينَ کَانَ ظِلُّ الرَّجُلِ مِثْلَ شَخْصَيْهِ فَصَنَعَ کَمَا صَنَعَ بِالْأَمْسِ فَصَلَّی الْعَصْرَ ثُمَّ أَتَاهُ حِينَ وَجَبَتْ الشَّمْسُ فَصَنَعَ کَمَا صَنَعَ بِالْأَمْسِ فَصَلَّی الْمَغْرِبَ فَنِمْنَا ثُمَّ قُمْنَا ثُمَّ نِمْنَا ثُمَّ قُمْنَا فَأَتَاهُ فَصَنَعَ کَمَا صَنَعَ بِالْأَمْسِ فَصَلَّی الْعِشَائَ ثُمَّ أَتَاهُ حِينَ امْتَدَّ الْفَجْرُ وَأَصْبَحَ وَالنُّجُومُ بَادِيَةٌ مُشْتَبِکَةٌ فَصَنَعَ کَمَا صَنَعَ بِالْأَمْسِ فَصَلَّی الْغَدَاةَ ثُمَّ قَالَ مَا بَيْنَ هَاتَيْنِ الصَّلَاتَيْنِ وَقْتٌ

It was narrated from Jabir bin ‘Abdullah that Jibril came to the Prophet صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم to teach him the times of prayer. Jibril went forward, with the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم behind him and the people behind the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم and he prayed Zuhr when the sun had passed its zenith. Then he came to him when the shadow of a person was equal to his height, and did as he had done before; Jibril went forward, with the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم behind him and the people behind the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم, and he prayed Asr. Then Jibril came to him when the sun had set; Jibril went forward, with the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم behind him and the people behind the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم, and he prayed Maghrib. Then he came to him when the twilight had disappeared; Jibril went forward, with the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم behind him and the people behind the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم, and he prayed ‘Isha’. Then he came to him when dawn broke; Jibril went forward, with the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم behind him and the people behind the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم, and he prayed Al-Ghadah) Then he came to him on the second day when a man’s shadow was equal to his height, and did as he had done the day before, he prayed Zuhr. Then he came to him when the shadow of a man was twice his height, and did what he had done the day before, and prayed ‘Asr. Then he came to him when the sun had set and did what he had done the day before, and prayed Maghrib. Then we slept and got up, and slept and got up again. Then he came to him and did what he had done the day before and prayed ‘lsha’. Then he came to him when the (the light of) dawn was spread (on the horizon) and the stars were still clear in the sky, and he did the same as he had done the day before, and prayed Al-Ghadah. Then he said: ‘The time between these two is the time for prayer.” (Sahih)

أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْأَعْلَی قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا مُعْتَمِرٌ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ مَعْمَرًا عَنْ ابْنِ طَاوُسٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ عَنْ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ مَنْ أَدْرَکَ رَکْعَتَيْنِ مِنْ صَلَاةِ الْعَصْرِ قَبْلَ أَنْ تَغْرُبَ الشَّمْسُ أَوْ رَکْعَةً مِنْ صَلَاةِ الصُّبْحِ قَبْلَ أَنْ تَطْلُعَ الشَّمْسُ فَقَدْ أَدْرَکَ

It was narrated from Abu Hurairah, may Allah be pleased with him, that the Prophet صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم said: “Whoever catches up with two Rak’ahs of ‘Asr prayer before the sun sets, or one Rak’ah of the Subh prayer before the sun rises, has caught it.” (Sahih)

أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْأَعْلَی قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا مُعْتَمِرٌ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ مَعْمَرًا عَنْ الزُّهْرِيِّ عَنْ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ عَنْ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ مَنْ أَدْرَکَ رَکْعَةً مِنْ صَلَاةِ الْعَصْرِ قَبْلَ أَنْ تَغِيبَ الشَّمْسُ أَوْ أَدْرَکَ رَکْعَةً مِنْ الْفَجْرِ قَبْلَ طُلُوعِ الشَّمْسِ فَقَدْ أَدْرَکَ

It was narrated from Abu Hurairah that the Prophet صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم said: “Whoever catches up with one Rak’ah of ‘Asr prayer before the sun sets, or catches up with one Rak’ah of Fajr before the sun rises, has caught it.” (Sahih)

أَخْبَرَنَا عَمْرُو بْنُ مَنْصُورٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا الْفَضْلُ بْنُ دُکَيْنٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا شَيْبَانُ عَنْ يَحْيَی عَنْ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ عَنْ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ إِذَا أَدْرَکَ أَحَدُکُمْ أَوَّلَ سَجْدَةٍ مِنْ صَلَاةِ الْعَصْرِ قَبْلَ أَنْ تَغْرُبَ الشَّمْسُ فَلْيُتِمَّ صَلَاتَهُ وَإِذَا أَدْرَکَ أَوَّلَ سَجْدَةٍ مِنْ صَلَاةِ الصُّبْحِ قَبْلَ أَنْ تَطْلُعَ الشَّمْسُ فَلْيُتِمَّ صَلَاتَهُ

It was narrated from Abu Hurairah that the Prophet صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم said: “If any one of you catches the first prostration of ‘Asr prayer before the sun sets, let him complete his prayer, and if he catches up with the first prostration of Fajr prayer before the sun rises, let him complete his prayer.” (Sahih)

أَخْبَرَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ عَنْ مَالِکٍ عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ أَسْلَمَ عَنْ عَطَائِ بْنِ يَسَارٍ وَعَنْ بُسْرِ بْنِ سَعِيدٍ وَعَنْ الْأَعْرَجِ يُحَدِّثُونَ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ مَنْ أَدْرَکَ رَکْعَةً مِنْ صَلَاةِ الصُّبْحِ قَبْلَ أَنْ تَطْلُعَ الشَّمْسُ فَقَدْ أَدْرَکَ الصُّبْحَ وَمَنْ أَدْرَکَ رَکْعَةً مِنْ الْعَصْرِ قَبْلَ أَنْ تَغْرُبَ الشَّمْسُ فَقَدْ أَدْرَکَ الْعَصْرَ

It was narrated from Abu Hurairah that the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم said: “Whoever catches up with a Rak’ah of the Subh prayer before the sun rises, then he has caught up with Subh, and whoever catches up with a Rak’ah of ‘Asr prayer before the sun sets, then he has caught up with ‘Asr.” (Sahih)

أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، ← عَطَائِ بْنِ يَسَارٍ وَعَنْ بُسْرِ بْنِ سَعِيدٍ وَعَنْ الْأَعْرَجِ يُحَدِّثُونَ ← زَيْدِ بْنِ أَسْلَمَ، ← مَالِكٍ، ← قُتَيْبَةُ،

أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو دَاوُدَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدُ بْنُ عَامِرٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ عَنْ سَعْدِ بْنِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ نَصْرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ عَنْ جَدِّهِ مُعَاذٍ أَنَّهُ طَافَ مَعَ مُعَاذِ ابْنِ عَفْرَائَ فَلَمْ يُصَلِّ فَقُلْتُ أَلَا تُصَلِّي فَقَالَ إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ لَا صَلَاةَ بَعْدَ الْعَصْرِ حَتَّی تَغِيبَ الشَّمْسُ وَلَا بَعْدَ الصُّبْحِ حَتَّی تَطْلُعَ الشَّمْسُ

It was narrated from Nasr bin ‘Abdur-Rahman, from his grandfather Muadh, that he performed Tawaf with Muadh bin ‘Afra’ but he did not pray. “I said: ‘Are you not going to pray?’ He said: ‘The Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم said: ‘There is no prayer after ‘Asr until the sun has set, nor after Subh until the sun has risen.” (Da’if)

أَخْبَرَنِي عَمْرُو بْنُ هِشَامٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا مَخْلَدُ بْنُ يَزِيدَ عَنْ سُفْيَانَ الثَّوْرِيِّ عَنْ عَلْقَمَةَ بْنِ مَرْثَدٍ عَنْ سُلَيْمَانَ بْنِ بُرَيْدَةَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ قَالَ جَائَ رَجُلٌ إِلَی رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَسَأَلَهُ عَنْ وَقْتِ الصَّلَاةِ فَقَالَ أَقِمْ مَعَنَا هَذَيْنِ الْيَوْمَيْنِ فَأَمَرَ بِلَالًا فَأَقَامَ عِنْدَ الْفَجْرِ فَصَلَّی الْفَجْرَ ثُمَّ أَمَرَهُ حِينَ زَالَتْ الشَّمْسُ فَصَلَّی الظُّهْرَ ثُمَّ أَمَرَهُ حِينَ رَأَی الشَّمْسَ بَيْضَائَ فَأَقَامَ الْعَصْرَ ثُمَّ أَمَرَهُ حِينَ وَقَعَ حَاجِبُ الشَّمْسِ فَأَقَامَ الْمَغْرِبَ ثُمَّ أَمَرَهُ حِينَ غَابَ الشَّفَقُ فَأَقَامَ الْعِشَائَ ثُمَّ أَمَرَهُ مِنْ الْغَدِ فَنَوَّرَ بِالْفَجْرِ ثُمَّ أَبْرَدَ بِالظُّهْرِ وَأَنْعَمَ أَنْ يُبْرِدَ ثُمَّ صَلَّی الْعَصْرَ وَالشَّمْسُ بَيْضَائُ وَأَخَّرَ عَنْ ذَلِکَ ثُمَّ صَلَّی الْمَغْرِبَ قَبْلَ أَنْ يَغِيبَ الشَّفَقُ ثُمَّ أَمَرَهُ فَأَقَامَ الْعِشَائَ حِينَ ذَهَبَ ثُلُثُ اللَّيْلِ فَصَلَّاهَا ثُمَّ قَالَ أَيْنَ السَّائِلُ عَنْ وَقْتِ الصَّلَاةِ وَقْتُ صَلَاتِکُمْ مَا بَيْنَ مَا رَأَيْتُمْ

It was narrated from Sulaiman bin Buraidah that his father said: “A man came to the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم and asked him about the times of prayer. He said: ‘Stay with us for these two days.’ Then he told Bilal to say the Iqamah at dawn and he prayed Fajr. Then he told him to do that when the sun had passed its zenith and he prayed uhr. Then he told him to do that when the sun was still bright, and he said the Iqamah for ‘Asr. Then he told him to do that when the last part of the sun had disappeared, and he said the Iqamah for Maghrib. Then he told him to do that when the twilight had disappeared and he said the Iqamah for ‘Isha’. The following day, he prayed Fajr when there was light, then he delayed uhr until it was cooler, and waited until it was much cooler before praying ‘Asr but the sun was still clear, so he prayed ‘Asr later than on the first day. Then he prayed Maghrib before the twilight disappeared. Then he told him to say the Iqamah for ‘Isha‘when one-third of the night had passed and he prayed, then he said: ‘Where is the one who was asking about the times of prayer? The times of your prayer are between the times you have seen.” (Sahih)

وَقْتِ الصَّلاةِ. ← جَائَ رَجُلٌ إِلَی رَسُولِ اللَّهِ فَسَأَلَهُ ← أَبِيهِ ← سُلَيْمَانَ بْنُ بُرَيْدَةَ ← عَلْقَمَةَ بْنِ مَرْثَدٍ ← سُفْيَانُ الثَّوْرِيُّ ← مَخْلَدُ بْنُ يَزِيدَ ← عَمْرُو بْنُ هِشَامٍ

أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بَشَّارٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدٌ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ عَنْ أَبِي بِشْرٍ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ حَسَّانَ بْنَ بِلَالٍ عَنْ رَجُلٍ مِنْ أَسْلَمَ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنَّهُمْ کَانُوا يُصَلُّونَ مَعَ نَبِيِّ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ الْمَغْرِبَ ثُمَّ يَرْجِعُونَ إِلَی أَهَالِيهِمْ إِلَی أَقْصَی الْمَدِينَةِ يَرْمُونَ وَيُبْصِرُونَ مَوَاقِعَ سِهَامِهِمْ

It was narrated from a man of Aslam, who was one of the Companions of the Prophet صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم, that they used to pray Maghrib with the Prophet صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم then they would go back to their families in the furthest part of Al-Madinah, shooting arrows and seeing where they landed. (Hasan)

أَخْبَرَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا اللَّيْثُ عَنْ خَيْرِ بْنِ نُعَيْمٍ الْحَضْرَمِيِّ عَنْ ابْنِ هُبَيْرَةَ عَنْ أَبِي تَمِيمٍ الْجَيْشَانِيِّ عَنْ أَبِي بَصْرَةَ الْغِفَارِيِّ قَالَ صَلَّی بِنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ الْعَصْرَ بِالْمُخَمَّصِ قَالَ إِنَّ هَذِهِ الصَّلَاةَ عُرِضَتْ عَلَی مَنْ کَانَ قَبْلَکُمْ فَضَيَّعُوهَا وَمَنْ حَافَظَ عَلَيْهَا کَانَ لَهُ أَجْرُهُ مَرَّتَيْنِ وَلَا صَلَاةَ بَعْدَهَا حَتَّی يَطْلُعَ الشَّاهِدُ وَالشَّاهِدُ النَّجْمُ

It was narrated that Abu Basrah Al-Ghifari said: “The Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم led us in praying ‘Asr in Al-Mukhammas He said: ‘This prayer was enjoined upon those who came before you, but they neglected it. Whoever prays it regularly will have a two fold reward, and there is no prayer after it until the Shahid appears.” And the Shahid is “the star.” (Sahih)
