حَدَّثَنَا مُسَدَّدٌ وَقُتَيْبَةُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ قَالَا حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ عَنْ الزُّهْرِيِّ عَنْ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ عَنْ عَائِشَةَ أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ کَانَ إِذَا أَرَادَ أَنْ يَنَامَ وَهُوَ جُنُبٌ تَوَضَّأَ وُضُوئَهُ لِلصَّلَاةِ

Aishah reported: when the prophet ﷺ intended to sleep while he was sexually defiled, he would perform ablution as he did for prayer.

حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الصَّبَّاحِ الْبَزَّازُ حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ الْمُبَارَکِ عَنْ يُونُسَ عَنْ الزُّهْرِيِّ بِإِسْنَادِهِ وَمَعْنَاهُ زَادَ وَإِذَا أَرَادَ أَنْ يَأْکُلَ وَهُوَ جُنُبٌ غَسَلَ يَدَيْهِ قَالَ أَبُو دَاوُد وَرَوَاهُ ابْنُ وَهْبٍ عَنْ يُونُسَ فَجَعَلَ قِصَّةَ الْأَکْلِ قَوْلَ عَائِشَةَ مَقْصُورًا وَرَوَاهُ صَالِحُ بْنُ أَبِي الْأَخْضَرِ عَنْ الزُّهْرِيِّ کَمَا قَالَ ابْنُ الْمُبَارَکِ إِلَّا أَنَّهُ قَالَ عَنْ عُرْوَةَ أَوْ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ وَرَوَاهُ الْأَوْزَاعِيُّ عَنْ يُونُسَ عَنْ الزُّهْرِيِّ عَنْ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ کَمَا قَالَ ابْنُ الْمُبَارَکِ

This Tradition has been narrated on the Authority of al-Zuhri through a different chain. It adds: If he intends to eat while he is defiled, he should wash both his hands. Abu Dawud said: Ibn Wahb narrated this tradition on the authority of Yunus. He described the fact of eating as the statement of Aishah (not the saying of the prophet). It has also been narrated it from Urwah or Abu Salamah. Al-Awza’I narrated it from Yunus on the Authority of Al-Zuhri from the prophet ﷺ as narrated by Ibn al-Mubarak.

حَدَّثَنَا مُسَدَّدٌ حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَی حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ عَنْ الْحَکَمِ عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ الْأَسْوَدِ عَنْ عَائِشَةَ أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ کَانَ إِذَا أَرَادَ أَنْ يَأْکُلَ أَوْ يَنَامَ تَوَضَّأَ تَعْنِي وَهُوَ جُنُبٌ

Aishah reported: When the Prophet ﷺ wanted to eat or sleep, he would perform ablution. She meant that (the prophet did so) when he was sexually defiled.

حَدَّثَنَا مُوسَی يَعْنِي ابْنَ إِسْمَعِيلَ حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادٌ يَعْنِي ابْنَ سَلَمَةَ أَخْبَرَنَا عَطَائٌ الْخُرَاسَانِيُّ عَنْ يَحْيَی بْنِ يَعْمَرَ عَنْ عَمَّارِ بْنِ يَاسِرٍ أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ رَخَّصَ لِلْجُنُبِ إِذَا أَکَلَ أَوْ شَرِبَ أَوْ نَامَ أَنْ يَتَوَضَّأَ قَالَ أَبُو دَاوُد بَيْنَ يَحْيَی بْنِ يَعْمَرَ وَعَمَّارِ بْنِ يَاسِرٍ فِي هَذَا الْحَدِيثِ رَجُلٌ و قَالَ عَلِيُّ بْنُ أَبِي طَالِبٍ وَابْنُ عُمَرَ وَعَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عَمْرٍو الْجُنُبُ إِذَا أَرَادَ أَنْ يَأْکُلَ تَوَضَّأَ

Narrated Ammar ibn Yasir: The Prophet ﷺ granted permission to a person who was sexually defiled to eat or drink or sleep after performing ablution. Abu Dawud said: In the chain of this tradition there is a narrator between Yahya bin Ya'mur and Ammar bin Yasir. Ali bin Abi Talib, Ibn Umar and Abdullah bin Amr said: When a person is sexually defiled wants to eat, he should perform ablution.

حَدَّثَنَا مُسَدَّدٌ حَدَّثَنَا مُعْتَمِرٌ ح و حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ حَنْبَلٍ حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَعِيلُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ قَالَا حَدَّثَنَا بُرْدُ بْنُ سِنَانٍ عَنْ عُبَادَةَ بْنِ نُسَيٍّ عَنْ غُضَيْفِ بْنِ الْحَارِثِ قَالَ قُلْتُ لِعَائِشَةَ أَرَأَيْتِ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ کَانَ يَغْتَسِلُ مِنْ الْجَنَابَةِ فِي أَوَّلِ اللَّيْلِ أَوْ فِي آخِرِهِ قَالَتْ رُبَّمَا اغْتَسَلَ فِي أَوَّلِ اللَّيْلِ وَرُبَّمَا اغْتَسَلَ فِي آخِرِهِ قُلْتُ اللَّهُ أَکْبَرُ الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي جَعَلَ فِي الْأَمْرِ سَعَةً قُلْتُ أَرَأَيْتِ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ کَانَ يُوتِرُ أَوَّلَ اللَّيْلِ أَمْ فِي آخِرِهِ قَالَتْ رُبَّمَا أَوْتَرَ فِي أَوَّلِ اللَّيْلِ وَرُبَّمَا أَوْتَرَ فِي آخِرِهِ قُلْتُ اللَّهُ أَکْبَرُ الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي جَعَلَ فِي الْأَمْرِ سَعَةً قُلْتُ أَرَأَيْتِ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ کَانَ يَجْهَرُ بِالْقُرْآنِ أَمْ يَخْفُتُ بِهِ قَالَتْ رُبَّمَا جَهَرَ بِهِ وَرُبَّمَا خَفَتَ قُلْتُ اللَّهُ أَکْبَرُ الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي جَعَلَ فِي الْأَمْرِ سَعَةً

Narrated Aishah, Ummul Muminin: Ghudayf ibn al-Harith reported: I asked Aishah: Have you seen the Messenger of Allah ﷺ washing (because of defilement) at the beginning of the night or at the end? She replied: Sometimes he would take a bath at the beginning of the night and sometimes at the end. Thereupon I exclaimed: Allah is most Great. All Praise be to Allah Who made this matter accommodative. I again asked her: What do you think, did the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say the witr prayer (additional prayer after obligatory prayer at night) in the beginning of the night or at the end? She replied: Sometimes he would say the witr prayer at the beginning of the night and sometimes at the end. I exclaimed: Allah is most Great. All praise be to Allah Who made the matter accommodative. Again I asked her: What do you think, did the Messenger of Allah ﷺ recite the Quran (in the prayer) loudly or softly? She replied: Sometimes he would recite loudly and sometimes softly. I exclaimed: Allah is most Great. All praise be to Allah Who made the matter flexible.

حَدَّثَنَا حَفْصُ بْنُ عُمَرَ النَّمَرِيُّ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ مُدْرِکٍ عَنْ أَبِي زُرْعَةَ بْنِ عَمْرِو بْنِ جَرِيرٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ نُجَيٍّ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ أَبِي طَالِبٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ عَنْ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ لَا تَدْخُلُ الْمَلَائِکَةُ بَيْتًا فِيهِ صُورَةٌ وَلَا کَلْبٌ وَلَا جُنُبٌ

Narrated Ali ibn Abu Talib: The Prophet ﷺ said: Angels do not enter the house where there is a picture, or a dog, or a person who is sexually defiled.

"لَا تَدْخُلُ الْمَلَائِكَةُ بَيْتًا فِيهِ صُورَةٌ وَلَا كَلْبٌ وَلَا جُنُبٌ" ← النَّبِيِّ ← عَلِيِّ بْنِ أَبِي طَالِبٍ ← أَبِيهِ ← عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ نُجَيٍّ ← اَبِیْ زُرْعَۃَ بْنِ عَمْرِو بْنِ جَرِیْرٍ، ← عَلِيِّ بْنِ مُدْرِكٍ ← شُعْبَةُ، ← حَفْصُ بْنُ عُمَرَ النَّمَرِيُّ

حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ کَثِيرٍ أَخْبَرَنَا سُفْيَانُ عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَقَ عَنْ الْأَسْوَدِ عَنْ عَائِشَةَ قَالَتْ کَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَنَامُ وَهُوَ جُنُبٌ مِنْ غَيْرِ أَنْ يَمَسَّ مَائً قَالَ أَبُو دَاوُد حَدَّثَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ الْوَاسِطِيُّ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ يَزِيدَ بْنَ هَارُونَ يَقُولُ هَذَا الْحَدِيثُ وَهْمٌ يَعْنِي حَدِيثَ أَبِي إِسْحَقَ

Narrated Aishah, Ummul Muminin: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ would sleep while he was sexually defiled without touching water. Abu Dawud said: Hasan bin Ali al-Wasiti said that the heard Yazid bin Harun say: This tradition is based on a misunderstanding, i. e. the tradition reported by Abu Ishaq.

حَدَّثَنَا حَفْصُ بْنُ عُمَرَ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ مُرَّةَ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ سَلَمَةَ قَالَ دَخَلْتُ عَلَی عَلِيٍّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ أَنَا وَرَجُلَانِ رَجُلٌ مِنَّا وَرَجُلٌ مِنْ بَنِي أَسَدٍ أَحْسَبُ فَبَعَثَهُمَا عَلِيٌّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ وَجْهًا وَقَالَ إِنَّکُمَا عِلْجَانِ فَعَالِجَا عَنْ دِينِکُمَا ثُمَّ قَامَ فَدَخَلَ الْمَخْرَجَ ثُمَّ خَرَجَ فَدَعَا بِمَائٍ فَأَخَذَ مِنْهُ حَفْنَةً فَتَمَسَّحَ بِهَا ثُمَّ جَعَلَ يَقْرَأُ الْقُرْآنَ فَأَنْکَرُوا ذَلِکَ فَقَالَ إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ کَانَ يَخْرُجُ مِنْ الْخَلَائِ فَيُقْرِئُنَا الْقُرْآنَ وَيَأْکُلُ مَعَنَا اللَّحْمَ وَلَمْ يَکُنْ يَحْجُبُهُ أَوْ قَالَ يَحْجِزُهُ عَنْ الْقُرْآنِ شَيْئٌ لَيْسَ الْجَنَابَةَ

Narrated Ali ibn Abu Talib: Abdullah ibn Salamah said: I, accompanied by other two persons, one from us and the other from Banu Asad, called upon Ali. He sent them to a certain territory (on some mission) saying: You are sturdy and vigorous people; hence display your power for religion. He then stood and entered the toilet. He then came out and called for water and took a handful of it. Then he wiped (his hands) with it and began to recite the Quran. They were surprised at this (action). Thereupon he said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ came out from the privy and taught us the Quran and took meat with us. Nothing prevented him; or the narrator said: Nothing prevented him from (reciting) the Quran except sexual defilement.

حَدَّثَنَا مُسَدَّدٌ حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَی عَنْ مِسْعَرٍ عَنْ وَاصِلٍ عَنْ أَبِي وَائِلٍ عَنْ حُذَيْفَةَ أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لَقِيَهُ فَأَهْوَی إِلَيْهِ فَقَالَ إِنِّي جُنُبٌ فَقَالَ إِنَّ الْمُسْلِمَ لَا يَنْجُسُ

Hudhaifah reported: The prophet ﷺ visited him and inclined towards him (for shaking hand). He said: I am sexually defiled. The prophet ﷺ replied: A muslim is not defiled.

حَدَّثَنَا مُسَدَّدٌ حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَی وَبِشْرٌ عَنْ حُمَيْدٍ عَنْ بَکْرٍ عَنْ أَبِي رَافِعٍ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ قَالَ لَقِيَنِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي طَرِيقٍ مِنْ طُرُقِ الْمَدِينَةِ وَأَنَا جُنُبٌ فَاخْتَنَسْتُ فَذَهَبْتُ فَاغْتَسَلْتُ ثُمَّ جِئْتُ فَقَالَ أَيْنَ کُنْتَ يَا أَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ قَالَ قُلْتُ إِنِّي کُنْتُ جُنُبًا فَکَرِهْتُ أَنْ أُجَالِسَکَ عَلَی غَيْرِ طَهَارَةٍ فَقَالَ سُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ إِنَّ الْمُسْلِمَ لَا يَنْجُسُ و قَالَ فِي حَدِيثِ بِشْرٍ حَدَّثَنَا حُمَيْدٌ حَدَّثَنِي بَکْرٌ

Abu Hudhaifah reported: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ met me on one of the streets of Madina while I was sexually defiled. I retreated and went away. I then took a bath and came to him. He asked: Where were you, O Abu Hurairah? I replied: As I was sexually defiled, I disliked to sit in your company without purification. He exclaimed: Glory be to Allah! A Muslim is not defiled. He (Abu Dawud) said: The version of this tradition reported by Bishr has the chain: Humaid reported from Bakr.

حَدَّثَنَا مُسَدَّدٌ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْوَاحِدِ بْنُ زِيَادٍ حَدَّثَنَا الْأَفْلَتُ بْنُ خَلِيفَةَ قَالَ حَدَّثَتْنِي جَسْرَةُ بِنْتُ دَجَاجَةَ قَالَتْ سَمِعْتُ عَائِشَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهَا تَقُولُ جَائَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَوُجُوهُ بُيُوتِ أَصْحَابِهِ شَارِعَةٌ فِي الْمَسْجِدِ فَقَالَ وَجِّهُوا هَذِهِ الْبُيُوتَ عَنْ الْمَسْجِدِ ثُمَّ دَخَلَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَلَمْ يَصْنَعْ الْقَوْمُ شَيْئًا رَجَائَ أَنْ تَنْزِلَ فِيهِمْ رُخْصَةٌ فَخَرَجَ إِلَيْهِمْ بَعْدُ فَقَالَ وَجِّهُوا هَذِهِ الْبُيُوتَ عَنْ الْمَسْجِدِ فَإِنِّي لَا أُحِلُّ الْمَسْجِدَ لِحَائِضٍ وَلَا جُنُبٍ قَالَ أَبُو دَاوُد هُوَ فُلَيْتٌ الْعَامِرِيُّ

Narrated Aishah, Ummul Muminin: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ came and saw that the doors of the houses of his Companions were facing the mosque. He said: Turn the direction of the houses from the mosque. The Prophet ﷺ then entered (the houses or the mosque), and the people did take any step in this regard hoping that some concession might be revealed. He the Prophet) again came upon them and said: Turn the direction of these (doors) from the mosque I do not make the mosque lawful for a menstruating woman and for a person who is sexually defiled. Abu Dawud said: Aflat bin Khalifah is also called Fulait al-Amiri.

حَدَّثَنَا مُوسَی بْنُ إِسْمَعِيلَ حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادٌ عَنْ زِيَادٍ الْأَعْلَمِ عَنْ الْحَسَنِ عَنْ أَبِي بَکْرَةَ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ دَخَلَ فِي صَلَاةِ الْفَجْرِ فَأَوْمَأَ بِيَدِهِ أَنْ مَکَانَکُمْ ثُمَّ جَائَ وَرَأْسُهُ يَقْطُرُ فَصَلَّی بِهِمْ

Narrated Abu Bakrah: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ began to lead (the people) in the dawn prayer. He then signalled with his hand: (Stay) at your places. (Then he entered his home). He then returned while drops of water were coming down from him (from his body) and he led them in prayer.
