حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ عِيسَى أَخْبَرَنِي مَالِكٌ عَنْ نَافِعٍ عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ أَنَّ عَائِشَةَ أَرَادَتْ أَنْ تَشْتَرِيَ جَارِيَةً تُعْتِقُهَا قَالَ أَهْلُهَا نَبِيعُكِ عَلَى أَنَّ وَلَاءَهَا لَنَا فَذَكَرَتْ ذَلِكَ لِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ لَا يَمْنَعْكِ ذَلِكَ فَإِنَّ الْوَلَاءَ لِمَنْ أَعْتَقَ
مسند امام احمد بن حنبل · Hadith 5929
It was narrated from Ibn 'Umar that 'Aa'ishah wanted to buy a slave woman in order to manumit her, but her owners said: (We will only sell her to you) on condition that her wala’ belongs to us. She mentioned that to the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) and he said: "Do not let that stop you; Wala (the right to inherit from a freed slave) belongs to the one who manumits the slave."
