حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الصَّمَدِ حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادٌ حَدَّثَنَا ثَابِتٌ عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ لِرَجُلٍ فَعَلْتَ كَذَا وَكَذَا فَقَالَ لَا وَالَّذِي لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا هُوَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ مَا فَعَلْتُ قَالَ بَلَى قَدْ فَعَلْتَ وَلَكِنْ غُفِرَ لَكَ بِالْإِخْلَاصِ
مسند امام احمد بن حنبل · Hadith 5986
It was narrated from Ibn 'Umar that the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said to a man: "Did you do such and such?" He said: No, by the One besides Whom there is no other god, O Messenger of Allah (PBUH), I did not do it. He said: "No, you did do it, but you have been forgiven because of your sincerity."
