أَخْبَرَنَا عَمْرُو بْنُ عُثْمَانَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا الْوَلِيدُ عَنْ حَنْظَلَةَ قَالَ رَأَيْتُ طَاوُسًا يَمُرُّ بِالرُّکْنِ فَإِنْ وَجَدَ عَلَيْهِ زِحَامًا مَرَّ وَلَمْ يُزَاحِمْ وَإِنْ رَآهُ خَالِيًا قَبَّلَهُ ثَلَاثًا ثُمَّ قَالَ رَأَيْتُ ابْنَ عَبَّاسٍ فَعَلَ مِثْلَ ذَلِکَ وَقَالَ ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ رَأَيْتُ عُمَرَ بْنَ الْخَطَّابِ فَعَلَ مِثْلَ ذَلِکَ ثُمَّ قَالَ إِنَّکَ حَجَرٌ لَا تَنْفَعُ وَلَا تَضُرُّ وَلَوْلَا أَنِّي رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَبَّلَکَ مَا قَبَّلْتُکَ ثُمَّ قَالَ عُمَرُ رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَعَلَ مِثْلَ ذَلِکَ
سنن نسائی · Hadith 2945
It was narrated that Hanzalah said: “I saw Tawus pass by the Corner. If he saw it was crowded, he would pass by and he would not push his way in. And if he saw it was free, he would kiss it three times, then he said: ‘I saw Ibn ‘Abbas doing that. Ibn ‘Abbas said: I saw ‘Umar bin Al-Khattab doing that, then he said: You are just a stone that can neither cause harm or bring benefit; were it not that I saw the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم kissing you I would not have kissed you.’ Then ‘Umar said: ‘I saw the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم doing that.” (Sahih)
