He learned directly from the Prophet ﷺ and from senior companions, and in turn became the teacher of hundreds of Tabi'un — the generation whose preservation of his narrations forms the backbone of the major Hadith collections.

Abu Hurayrah learned directly from the Prophet ﷺ during his three years of close companionship, and supplemented his knowledge by studying with senior Sahaba in Madinah.

عِكْرِمَةَ،
نَافِعٍ، «أَنَّ ابْنَ عُمَرَ كَانَ يَقْرَأُ بِالسُّوَرِ فِي رَكْعَةٍ»
عَطَاءٍ،
سَالِمِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ،
أَصْبَغُ
رَجُلٍ مِنْ أَهْلِ الطَّائِفِ
نَافِعٍ أَنَّ ابْنَ عُمَرَ كَانَ يَشْرَبُ مِنْ فِي السِّقَاءِ.
أَبُو سَعْدٍ
رَأَيْتُ عَطَاءً وَطَاوُوسا يَتَوَضَّآنِ فِي الْمَسْجِدِ الْحَرَامِ.
كَانَ عِكْرِمَةُ إِذَا دَخَلَ الْخَلاَءَ جَعَلَ فَصَّهُ مِمَّا يَلِي بَطْنَ كَفِّهِ.
نَافِعٍ أَنَّ عُمَرَ نَهَى أَنْ يُزَادَ النِّسَاء عَلَى أَرْبَعِ مِئَةٍ.

عِكْرِمَةَقَالَ: كَانَ
الضَّحَّاكِ،قَالَ: «الْمِسْكُ مَيْتَةٌ وَدَمٌ»
مُجَاهِدٍقَالَ: «مَا يُصَلِّي هَهُنَا، وَمَا يُضَحِّي يَوْمَ النَّحْرِ»
أصْبغَقَالَ: «كَانَ ابْنُ عُمَرَ، يُؤَذِّنُ لَنَا وَيَؤُمُّنَا فِي السَّفرِ»
مُوسَى بْنِ عُقْبَةَ،قَالَ: صَحِبْتُ سَالِمًا فَتَخَلَّفْتُ عَنْهُ بِالطَّرِيقِ، فَقَالَ: «مَا خَلَّفَكَ؟»
الضَّحَّاكِقَالَ الْمِسْكُ مَيْتَةٌ وَدَمٌ.
أَبِيهِ نَحْوًا مِنَ الْأَحَادِيثِ الْأُوَلِ، وَزَادَ فِيهِ: إِنَّ اللهَ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ
