He learned directly from the Prophet ﷺ and from senior companions, and in turn became the teacher of hundreds of Tabi'un — the generation whose preservation of his narrations forms the backbone of the major Hadith collections.

Abu Hurayrah learned directly from the Prophet ﷺ during his three years of close companionship, and supplemented his knowledge by studying with senior Sahaba in Madinah.
کُنَّا عِنْدَ أَبِي مُوسَی الْأَشْعَرِيِّ
أَبِي مُوسَی الأَشْعَرِيِّ
فَأَنَا لِحَدِيثِ الْقَاسِمِ أَحْفَظُ

أَبِي مُوسَى أَنَّهُ جَاءَ رَجُلٌ وَهُوَ يَأْكُلُ دَجَاجًا فَتَنَحَّى
عِمْرَانَ بْنَ حُصَيْنٍ يَذْکُرُ
لَمَّا قَدِمَ أَبُو مُوسَی أَکْرَمَ هَذَا الْحَيَّ مِنْ جَرْمٍ
دخلت على أبي موسى الأشعري وهو يأكل لحم الدجاج
قرب إلى أبي موسى دجاجة
أَبِي مُوسَى،عَنِ النَّبِيِّ
كان بين هذا الحي من جرم ومن الأشعريين ود
عِمْرَانُ،
رَأَيْتُ أَبَا مُوسَى يَأْكُلُ الدَّجَاجَ، فَدَعَانِي، فَقُلْتُ: إِنِّي رَأَيْتُهُ يَأْكُلُ نَتِنًا
أَبِي مُوسَىأَنَّهُ جَاءَ رَجُلٌ وَهُوَ يَأْكُلُ دَجَاجًا فَتَنَحَّى
أَبِي مُوسَىأَنَّهُ جَاءَ رَجُلٌ وَهُوَ يَأْكُلُ دَجَاجًا فَتَنَحَّى {ص:325}
رأيت أبا موسى يأكل الدجاج فدعاني قلت إني رأيته يأكل نتناً
لِحَدِيثِ الْقَاسِمِ أَحْفَظُقَ
رأيت عبد الله بن ابا موسى يأكل الدجاج فدعاني فقلت انى رأيته يأكل نتنا
