Abu Hurayrah's narrations reach us through a vast network of teachers and students. He learned directly from the Prophet ﷺ and from senior companions, and in turn became the teacher of hundreds of Tabi'un — the generation whose preservation of his narrations forms the backbone of the major Hadith collections.

Abu Hurayrah learned directly from the Prophet ﷺ during his three years of close companionship, and supplemented his knowledge by studying with senior Sahaba in Madinah.
قُلْتُ لِلْحَسَنِ بْنِ عَلِيٍّ: مَا تَذْكُرُ مِنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ
قلت للحسن بن علي ما تعقل
قُلْتُ لِلحُسَيْنِ بْنِ عَلِيٍّ: مَا تَعْقِلُعَنْ رَسُولِ اللهِ
قُلْتُ لِلْحَسَنِ بْنِ عَلِيٍّ مَا تَذْكُرُ
قُلْتُ لِلْحُسَيْنِ بْنِ عَلِيٍّ مَا تَعْقِلُ
قُلْتُ لِلْحَسَنِ: مَا تَعْقِلُ
قلت للحسن فذكر نحوه إلا أنه
قُلْتُ لِلْحَسَنِ: هَلْ تَحْفَظُ مِنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ شَيْئًا؟،
